> 3 dayEvery tech needs one of these. You dont need to use the software included which is a plus for vme as I like to chose. Excellent transfer rates with 3.0 usb. If your motherboard puts out low voltage as my Asus 79 Delux on the 2.0 but the 3.0s work fine on most. use the drivers on the WD site to get it to work. Works on 90% of all pcs without drivers. No AC needed one cord although proprietary. I recommend the accessory rubber case (WD Grip Pack) available on Amazon in multiple colors that comes with a extra cord also. It protect it and you get he extra cord. Pros Size 3.0 Transfer speed Cons proprietary cables.

> 3 dayThis is a very easy to use portable back up. Its one terabyte size stores your important cant loose data. I was able to copy large files off my Windows 8.1 laptop in a very short time. I didnt read the instructions (men dont do that) and was amazed at the ease that it worked. I also transferred data from my wifes Windows 10 with no issues. This appears well made and solid so taking it to work in a briefcase wouldnt be an issue. The files I set up are easy to access quickly from this device and very easy to add on a weekly basis. This is the best back up I have, and Western Digital is well know for quality.

> 3 dayI am extremely disappointed in this purchase. I purchased this less than two months ago to replace another Western Digital external hard drive for Mac, and I am already having the same issue with no resolution. Initially the hard drive worked fine, but after 4-5 weeks it suddenly became very temperamental; claiming that the device was disconnected when I would shift position of the cord slightly. After a week or two of that, it was no longer recognizable, yet the light was on and it appeared to make noise as if it were on. My computer recognizes it is plugged in, but I am unable to access it. I have spent many hours trying to find a solution through the website and other sources with no solution. I work in two fields where we constantly need to be using external hard drives, and this is unacceptable. I am legally obligated to securely store data for three to five years for my job in academia. I have lost money in my photography job, as I am unable to access photos that I need to get to clients in a timely manner, not to mention the few dollars I spent to buy a third cord to make sure it wasnt a wiring issue. I have spent countless hours reprocessing photos that I had finished before because I keep my raw images on another disk. I gave this product two stars because it does have a three year warranty and I was able to spend an additional $10 for insurance in case I have to pay someone to retrieve the data from the disk. Unfortunately, I do not trust this brand any longer and I will not be using the warranty just so I can switch brands. Additionally, the company contacted me after I had complained about these issues via Twitter. Despite me sending them my personal information so they could resolve the issue, I have yet to receive a phone call or email from them.

> 3 dayFairly pleasant with this external hard drive! I brought the 1TB Black version. I was in need of more space and this makes my life much easier. A very huge plus for this drive was that it was super easy to set up. In 5 minutes of connecting, I could already load up storage into the drive and put it in use! Also, the WD software that comes with this drive instillation is also very useful. Scanning for my drive for errors is very helpful so kudos to WD for making a software like this! The one thing that I didnt like was that sometimes when I want to safely remove the hard drive, it would say it would be in use and cannot be removed. Everything would be closed yet this error would still pop up. Because of this reason, I had to give this drive 4 stars instead of 5. I actually dont mind this error because I can simply just shut off my laptop and remove it, but it can sometimes be annoying. TLDR; PROS: Easy to set up, great WD software to protect and backup your drive. Highly recommended. CONS: Sometimes cannot safely remove hard drive, have to shut down laptop in order to.

> 3 dayI helped a friend set up a new computer and again when she acquired a malware infection. She had one of these little Passport drives. I liked it so much, got one of my own. White version, 1TB. Ive been using it about 8 months now, still love it. For me, it has a whole bunch of pluses: Western Digital has always been my choice for external backup hard drives. Good rep. 1TB is more than I need to backup my tons of photos, recipes, email, tax returns, and other important records on my laptop PC. The small physical size is a HUGE plus. It has 4 very tiny rubbery feet which help it stay put. Uses only ONE cord - USB. It does NOT require an electric outlet. Yaaaa. I used to use one of the standard large external drives, also WD, but it took up too much precious space, got knocked over a lot, and required an electric outlet, which are in short supply in my computer area. (Landline phone, modem, router, tv, printer, smartphone charger, charging laptop etc.) I plugged it into a USB port and let it sit on my 17 laptop - lower left corner. Thats it. Fits perfectly and so small it doesnt interfere with using the keyboard. This works for me because I dont have a desk. I move the laptop from the table next to my chair to my lap frequently. After all, it is a LAPtop, not a desktop or table top PC. <grin> My Passport moves with my laptop. I have a 17 monitor/keyboard area, so there is room for it. Not sure if it would fit in the same spot with a smaller laptop. If you use your laptop at a desk, or just plug in the Passport once a day to do backup, not a problem. I just prefer keeping it connected all the time. I prefer a mouse over the touch pad, but this is small enough that keeping it on the left side of my laptop does not cover the touch pad, should I need to use it. I use a third party software which checks for changes hourly and backs up any I made. So far, have not needed to use it for restore purposes, but sooner or later, hard drives fail. I have no doubt it will save the day when that happens. However, even external hard drives fail, so to be safe, I also have a cloud backup just in case. Cant be too careful.

> 3 dayIdentical in size to other My Passport drives, but exactly reversed. The connector is on the opposite side of the drive from all my other Passports. I got this one to replace one that just stopped working after 3 years. The only negative is that if you are buying this drive for color (red for secured, black for unsecured, etc.) you will be disappointed. Only the top cover of the drive has color. The rest of the drive is black. Kinds looks stupid and doesnt in any way let you set it on a shelf with other drives and immediately differentiate them by color. You barely see the color from the side of the drive and not at all from the back.

> 3 dayI own probably 20+ WD 2TB Passport USB 3.0 drives, of different models and colors, purchased over the past few years. I use these to store Disaster Recovery Image backups, both for myself and my clients. In general, I LOVE the drives and recommend them to every client that I work with. However, the two fuscia colored My Passport Ultra drives that I recently purchased, for one of my clients, are REAL DOGS! I often use Clonezilla to boot off a thumb drive and then use these USB Passports as the Image Repository, Ive been doing it for years without any problems. These two drives are such POWER HOGS that the LIVE Clonezilla OS cant even DETECT the drives when plugged into the desktops USB ports. Ive tested them on a number of different computers, using every available USB port (I understand that the rear USB ports often get more power, Ive tried them ALL!) Ive tried giving the drives longer for the OS to DETECT them, rebooting the OS repeatedly, everything that I can think of, and with the exception of only a couple of occasions, they have FAILED to be detected by the computer. (I then have plugged in an older version of the black WD 2TB Ultra drives and it works every time without the slightest delay.) Ive also noticed that the POWER LIGHT is very dim on these two FUSCIA drives, as comparred to my older black (blue, gray, silver, metal, and plastic) drives, of all sorts. After I boot into Windows, my computers can USUALLY detect these drives, but the power lights are still dimmer than others and dont appear to be nearly as quick and responsive. I dont know if I just got a couple of DUDS, or if the NEWER VERSION drives require MORE POWER than the older drives did. (I dont know if this has to do with the hardware encryption capabilities of these drives - which I never use, or really what is causing this problem.) I did notice on Amazon how some of the OLDER MODEL WD 2TB USB3 drives are actually selling for MORE MONEY (and are harder to find) than the newer VERSIONS of these drives, which I found ODD. I wonder if this is the reason WHY? Had I only purchased one of these drives, I would assume that it may be a fluke, but with TWO brand new identical drives performing poorly in exactly the same ways, Im less hopeful that I simply got a faulty product. Ill certainly call WD and see what they say. Either way, with over 1TB of data already on one of these drives (I had to use an OLD drive as an intermediary, but needed somewhere to transfer my clients images), it has been and will continue to be a PAIN to work with these drives, even if these drives are replaced and I need to migrate the data back off of them and verify the integrity of my images. Its all just a headache that I really dont need right now. For the foreseeable future, I believe that I will need to PAY MORE and wait longer to purchase the OLDER VERSIONS of this drive. This one just isnt cutting it! I know that these drives have historically been WONDERFUL, but buyers BEWARE, theres a NEW VERSION possibly looking to ruin your day! I hope that your experience is better than mine! (I would be interested in hearing from anyone with a SIMILAR experience with these drives, not promoting other products, but simply in regards to the VERSIONS of this particular product.) Thanks!

> 3 dayWorks great! I backed up my laptop to it when I had to send it in for repair. Good thing too, because they put in a new motherboard so I would have lost everything. I found it competitively priced and easy to carry and store. Unfortunately I did not find the instructions very user friendly although I am fairly tech savvy. So, I googled for more information and found some helpful instructions that got my backup going in no time. I deducted one star for this problem. Overall I would recommend it for the tech enlightened or those with tech savvy friends or relatives.

> 3 dayAs a giant nerd, hard drives of all shapes and sizes and capacities are very important to me. Ive used many drives in the past and all of my Western Digitals seem to last longer than competitors and outperform all expectations. More specifically to this drive. Going on the road for three months I needed a drive that I could trust for all of my sensitive data, as well as various movies and entertainment. The Western Digital Passport was perfect for this. Not only did it have the capacity to store my >TB movie/TV Collection, It also had the resilience to survive a literal cross country trip. This drive bounced around in my bag on buses, airplanes, cars and sometimes just in my back pocket for a solid three months and is still alive and perfectly functional to tell the tale today. The USB 3.0 speeds are pretty awesome as well! The size is perfect. Capacity is great. As always, another great product from WD!
