> 3 dayI bought two of these drives to replace my current storage and backup drives for Adobe Lightroom (Im a photography student). One of those drives I was replacing was a 1TB My Passport Ultra that Ive been super happy with, so I decided my new drives would just be larger versions! These drives are super easy to use, they operate very quietly and, in my experience, are very reliable. They run cool, as well, and the USB 3.0 is lightning fast. The only reason I needed to replace my 1TB version was because I was filling it up too quickly - Im going to use that one now as a backup drive for another computer. Word of advice, though - make sure you attach these to a powered USB port on your computer. When I initially connected these, I wasnt able to format them (I use a Mac, so had to reformat and partition them before use) or anything because they werent getting enough power. But once I connected them to a USB hub with an external power source, everything was just fine. The drives has been humming along nicely since, and my files are all safely in place!

> 3 dayThis is a very easy to use portable back up. Its one terabyte size stores your important cant loose data. I was able to copy large files off my Windows 8.1 laptop in a very short time. I didnt read the instructions (men dont do that) and was amazed at the ease that it worked. I also transferred data from my wifes Windows 10 with no issues. This appears well made and solid so taking it to work in a briefcase wouldnt be an issue. The files I set up are easy to access quickly from this device and very easy to add on a weekly basis. This is the best back up I have, and Western Digital is well know for quality.

Greater than one weekEverything seems to be working out great with this drive. Ive only had it for two days though. I bought this drive for my Xbox One. It was recognized right away and started moving and installing my own game library. It does get slightly hot when it is running that doesnt seem to affect it. The drive greatly improves the performance of games and beats the internal drive right out the park! Black Ops 3 was horrible when it was installed on the internal but now it plays way smoother. NOTE: I am an Xbox preview member, so game performance is affected by the preview updates. Overall, the drive is excellent. Will update as the drive is tested longer. I am also running a Seagate Expansion 1TB portable drive for more storage. It was a gift for Christmas. There doesnt seem to be a noticeable difference between the WD 2TB but Western Digital seems to be more reliable than Seagates line of portable hard drives from multiple site reviews. This is debatable.

> 3 dayI have had WD internal drives before and had pretty good luck with them and I needed an external drive and decided to give this one a go. I got the 1 TB version and am fairly pleased with it. The transfer rate is definitely fast and I like that it is powered by the USB port rather than needing a separate power adapter. The security features I do not use so I cannot speak of them. I marked it down simply because I somehow believed that this was a solid state drive when in fact it is not and I think that should be made clearer in the product description as that is what I really wanted. But, I will keep this one as it is pretty good for the price.

> 3 dayFirst off, theres really nothing wrong with the drive and its worked great for 7 years. Now I am having issues with corrupted files and trying to recover / fix the drive now is near impossible as it may be completely failing on me now. This is a sad because its been solid for very long and if I have to, I will have to reformat almost 500gb of backup data, which will be completely lost. Thank god its nothing too important though!

> 3 dayTerrible product and terrible tech support from Western Digital. I continue to get an error message that all my files have failed to back up. I called Western Digital about this and she told me to close all programs. That did not solve the problem. I still get the error messages and I get very sarcastic help from Western Digital. When i try to remove the hard drive I get a message that the program is still running or an error message that I cant connect sometimes both. I would really like to return the product but it has files that have backed up and so I cant really return it unless I take it to my IT people at a cost to wipe it. I am very unhappy with this. I have used 2 other companies back up drives but told WD was the best, not for me. My other two hard drives were never a problem. Also I use a remote back up and that stopped backing up files when the WD is connected, I never had the problem before with other hard drive. I assume its the software not the actual drive.Yesterday I spoke with their tech dept yet again and they gave me directions for wiping the hard drive. It said it would take 139 hours which I think is a bit long to put 0s on a hard drive to wipe out data. During the night there was an error message that I discovered when I awoke this morning so I clicked on continue. It continues to run at a snails pace, I called again and was told the hard drive had many bad sectors. This is hardly Amazons fault. WD is supposed to have excellent external back ups so something needs to be fixed in their quality control dept. The Passport hard drive is on its way back to Amazon.

> 3 dayVery nice. I use it as an external backup for my small email server on a Windows 10 machine. I enabled BitLocker for full disk encryption on it and connected it via USB port and enabled Windows File History backup on it. So far works really well. CON: One downside is that if you have an older computer, Windows XP for instance, this drive will not work with it. I learned it the hard way. Luckily I had another (newer) computer to use it there instead. CON2: The drive does not have a power supply. Which is good if you want to save space and a wire clutter. But it is also bad if your USB port is underpowered.

> 3 dayAs a giant nerd, hard drives of all shapes and sizes and capacities are very important to me. Ive used many drives in the past and all of my Western Digitals seem to last longer than competitors and outperform all expectations. More specifically to this drive. Going on the road for three months I needed a drive that I could trust for all of my sensitive data, as well as various movies and entertainment. The Western Digital Passport was perfect for this. Not only did it have the capacity to store my >TB movie/TV Collection, It also had the resilience to survive a literal cross country trip. This drive bounced around in my bag on buses, airplanes, cars and sometimes just in my back pocket for a solid three months and is still alive and perfectly functional to tell the tale today. The USB 3.0 speeds are pretty awesome as well! The size is perfect. Capacity is great. As always, another great product from WD!

> 3 dayI bought this some time in high school, probably sophomore year so around 8 years ago and this is still going strong. I took a lot of pictures and videos in high school and this was really good to store them on. I could keep it in my backpack or my jeans pockets size-wise. After 7 years with it, I had used it all I needed. My friends game with each other a lot and one needed more storage for his console so I gave him this and he said its made things so much quicker! He also says its never noticeable taking it with him because its so light and compact.

Greater than one weekPro: cheap, usb powered Con: ENCRYPTS EVERYTHING, NOT VIABLE FOR PORTABLE STORAGE. First, understand that an automatic backup function is critical to any backup storage device. It means that as you make changes to your computer, the program monitors them, and makes the appropriate updates to the backup hard drive. So if you have a folder of thousands of images, and you add 10 photos, the device will then backup those additional 10 photos. Not having auto backup means you would have to remember every change you made to your computer, and manually go to the hard drive and copy the files there as well. Auto backup is absolutely standard and expected on any device. Obviously with 1TB of data, you cant be expected to keep up with all the files and changes. The MAJOR problem is this.... If you are doing automatic back up on this device, it encrypts everything. That means the files are 100% useless on the harddrive unless you plug back in to your computer and go through a very very lengthy decryption process. You cannot just plug this drive in somewhere and view the files like you would on the computer. The files are broken down, split up, and are no longer usable files. The only way to make this a portable storage device, is by manually placing files on the drive. With 1TB of data, that is unreasonable. Hard to explain, but just know that this is NOT a good option for having a large portable storage device. You need an external drive that has an option to NOT encrypt everything.
