> 24 hourI had a 500 GB WD Passport since 2011 and went with a new 1 TB WD Passport Drive when I bought a new Mac, because I had never experienced problems with the old WD Passport Drive. This new one gave me headaches from the moment I installed it because it now comes with a security program and software that clashes with what is on the Mac, at least with El Capitan 10.11. There is no uninstaller software and when/if you just drag it to Trash, that is not enough. And WD hides all the useful information and provides no customer service. I wasted many hours with Mac senior advisers who tried to be as helpful as they could, admitting the problem is with the WD software. I had to wipe the drive clean twice and reinstall, finally without the security features. It appears to work now, but the true test will be after the first backup. (Initially, I got error messages that the backup could not be successfully completed when the security features were enabled.) I would have returned this, but I wasnt sure if all brands have their own security features that might lead to the same issues.

> 24 hourI bought this product for one purpose: to use as the drive for Apples Time Machine function on my Mac. The product received solid ratings on Amazon, the name of the product includes For Mac, and the Western Digital website touts the drives compatibility with Apple Time Machine, saying it makes it easy to regularly back up the files that define your creative life. Set up a backup schedule and rest assured that your files are protected. However, as I soon learned after setting up the drive, there was nothing easy about it. Each morning, I would wake up to multiple error messages telling me the backup failed and that I was experiencing RAID configuration issues. I spent a couple of hours doing research online and learned that many, many other users were experiencing the same problem. But no one had a simple fix. So I sought assistance from WD. The customer service portal on WDs website is horrible. It literally took me into a loop that would not allow me to open a ticket for this question. It kept pointing me to FAQs that did not solve the problem. So I called the customer support line. I explained my problem, and my frustration, and the gentleman told me that I would need to contact Apple directly because WD doesnt provide Apple technical support. What? I told him his product is specifically marketed as being compatible with Mac. He told me he was sorry, and wished me a pleasant day. Dont buy this drive.

> 24 hourPre-formatted for MAC and works great. Transfer speed is excellent - 2.0 for my old MacBook and Im piling my music library from various sources onto it for backup. I use another for Time Machine, and its performed perfectly over the years. The price per gig keeps dropping on these things, but hopefully one of these days a well priced external flash drive will hit the scene. Until then, these work fine.

> 24 hourWorking well so far. Bought it to backup an iMac that has a 1TB hard drive that is about three quarters full. It seems slower than the Firewire hard drives I have because I only have USB 2 on my iMac and not USB 3 that the WD 3TB can use. Other than that the drive great: small size, high capacity.

> 24 hourI purchased this because it was recommended by the person who sold me my MacBook. It is incredibly easy to use, has more storage space than I will ever need, backs up my data quickly, and is quite small and unobtrusive. I had been using this for awhile when my hard drive failed. I am a PhD student, so losing my data would have been a disaster. All of my work was saved, and it was easily transferred from My Passport to my new hard drive. I am so thankful I bought this. It was worth every penny!

> 24 hourWow, I now have 4 Western Digital Passport external harddrives. The other 3 are for the PC, and Im left wondering one thing: Why does this one for the Mac look so much classier than the PC versions? Seriously. If you want to see a super-elegant looking external harddrive that looks like Apple designed it, then you have to see this thing. And it connects well with my Mac. I just plugged it into the USB port of my Mac, and Time Capsule easily connected with it and synced my entire desktop drive in 35 minutes. Great design and outstanding performance. Yo, Western Digital, how about making something this beautiful for the PC?

> 24 hourI own 10 or more of these Passport portable USB external hard drives, both for Mac and for Windows (you can use either on either, by the way, just need the correct Mac or Windows format). They are stable, they are great for backups, great for moving information to off-site locations, and particularly great for storing valuable photos, music, data, documents and the like off site (like in a safe deposit box). They always work, never, ever a single problem with any of them. They are the most reliable drives available, and I will continue to buy them as often as I need one. I highly recommend these drives to anyone.

> 24 hourVery nice product. I havent bought a HDD for many years and I am amazed by the small size and capacity. It was easy to use as a backup drive for my Macbook. I wanted to back up thumb drive files on it too but I havent determined that I am able to do that.

> 24 hourFantastic little drive. First, I live in NYC and ordered this at 10:30 in the morning and it was delivered that evening at 7:30. Now thats service. Second, I opened the packaging and plugged the drive in (thats all the instructions say to do). The rest of the process including registration is driven by the utilities that come with the drive. Set up took all of 5 minutes including registering. Third, I opened Time Machine, found the drive and started the back-up. It took ninety minutes to do a 91 GB back-up via USB 2. Wow! That is fast. Fourth, ejected the drive, put it in a drawer and I am done. This replaced a Time Capsule (original unit) that had died. I figured with the ICloud, Box, Dropbox and Amazon Prime Cloud this little drive would provide me with all of the hardcopy (so to speak) that I could need in the event that all of the cloud accounts blew up. Incidentally, the initial back-up on a new Time Capsule (that I have in a different location) via an ethernet cable and Firewire connection took overnight. This was a marked difference and is more then adequate given all of the other storage that I have (both free and paid). My plan is to update via Time Machine once/week and I will keep you posted should there be any negative things to report; which, given my experience to-date, I cannot imagine. BTW this device is small and literally fits into the palm of your hand. If you need a portable storage device for any purpose this really rocks.

> 24 hourThis backup drive arrived promptly, was trivial to set up -- just plugged it into a USB slot and it started working. I am using it as a Time Machine drive. It is silent, takes up hardly any space on my desk, and has worked perfectly, as far as I can tell. I couldnt be more pleased with this purchase!
