> 3 dayI have quite a few WD external drives and have been satisfied with them over the years. I use them for backup of special sets of files. This one is brand new, so it is still working fine. The real test is a couple of years from now. Ask me then!

> 3 dayFormatted for Mac OS X works with OS X Sierra, the Time Machine backup option appears upon plugin very handy. Speed 3.0 is much faster than older models. Compact design and secure connection to drive, fits in my case compartment just fine. Western Digital My Passport drives have never failed me so far.

> 3 dayI bought this product for one purpose: to use as the drive for Apples Time Machine function on my Mac. The product received solid ratings on Amazon, the name of the product includes For Mac, and the Western Digital website touts the drives compatibility with Apple Time Machine, saying it makes it easy to regularly back up the files that define your creative life. Set up a backup schedule and rest assured that your files are protected. However, as I soon learned after setting up the drive, there was nothing easy about it. Each morning, I would wake up to multiple error messages telling me the backup failed and that I was experiencing RAID configuration issues. I spent a couple of hours doing research online and learned that many, many other users were experiencing the same problem. But no one had a simple fix. So I sought assistance from WD. The customer service portal on WDs website is horrible. It literally took me into a loop that would not allow me to open a ticket for this question. It kept pointing me to FAQs that did not solve the problem. So I called the customer support line. I explained my problem, and my frustration, and the gentleman told me that I would need to contact Apple directly because WD doesnt provide Apple technical support. What? I told him his product is specifically marketed as being compatible with Mac. He told me he was sorry, and wished me a pleasant day. Dont buy this drive.

Greater than one weekI bought this for my sister to use for backing up her MacBook Pro via Time Machine, and it works well. I took off 1 star because (unlike several other external drives from various manufacturers that I use for Time Machine backups of my own, identical MacBook Pro) it seems to lose its link with the computer if left hooked up for more than a couple of days. The link (and backups) can be restored simply by unplugging the WD drive, counting to 10, and plugging it back in -- but its the only external drive Ive come across so far with this quirk. Still, Ill consider buying another one of I need a small, easily-transported external drive in the future.

> 3 dayJust what I needed for storing files on my Macbook. Great deal on Amazon. It works specifically for Mac, so you dont need to reformat it. Be sure to get the one that is Mac compatible. It comes with the USB cable, and dont forget to register it to the WD website.

> 3 dayVery nice product. I havent bought a HDD for many years and I am amazed by the small size and capacity. It was easy to use as a backup drive for my Macbook. I wanted to back up thumb drive files on it too but I havent determined that I am able to do that.

> 3 dayThe WD My Passport worked perfect the moment I plugged it into my MacBook Pro. My Mac now backs up hourly long as the My Passport is installed. This is so much cheaper than using a cloud back-up system. Ive had an older My Passport for my PC for years and it still works perfect.

Greater than one weekIm currently having a third-party company digitize 100 hours of old videocamera tapes. I use this device for their storing the converted files, and for a few other projects. This little device is perfect for off-loading and/or uploading video files, it is as simple as click & drag. Comes with a 3-year warranty, though Id like to know what the real expected life is for these devices.

> 3 dayThis backup drive arrived promptly, was trivial to set up -- just plugged it into a USB slot and it started working. I am using it as a Time Machine drive. It is silent, takes up hardly any space on my desk, and has worked perfectly, as far as I can tell. I couldnt be more pleased with this purchase!
