These little drives are fast and seem to last as long as any backup hard drive. As a Macintosh Computer Consultant, I always keep several of these in my car to sell to clients who need a backup drive. These My Passport for Mac are already formatted for the Macintosh System. The regular My passport drives are formatted for Windows and must be reformatted to use properly with a Macintosh system.

Ive gone through two of these -- each has lasted me about 18 months of solid wear -- and will continue to reorder them as I need. Theyre inexpensive, fit my iPad securely, and prop up well. Also light, the material wipes off but hasnt torn or discolored. Both outside and inside are nice to the touch, and its protected my iPad from inadvertent falls. Useful equipment.

I own 10 or more of these Passport portable USB external hard drives, both for Mac and for Windows (you can use either on either, by the way, just need the correct Mac or Windows format). They are stable, they are great for backups, great for moving information to off-site locations, and particularly great for storing valuable photos, music, data, documents and the like off site (like in a safe deposit box). They always work, never, ever a single problem with any of them. They are the most reliable drives available, and I will continue to buy them as often as I need one. I highly recommend these drives to anyone.

Absolutely GREAT external drive for a GREAT price. I have used Western Digital exclusively for some 20 years for both internal hard drives and external back-up drives. This is a great drive for a Mac Laptop as the Time Machine Back-Up drive or to just hold stuff that one doesnt want / need on their main hard drive all the time. This is also a great looking new design.

This has really saved me. I really dont know much about these and was so glad a friend recommended it. Runs smooth and I strongly recommend adding the case. Effortless with Time Machine. Glad I got this purchase.

I am not satisfied with this Product and will return it some time soon. This will be the second time Ive had to do this with this Drive - its a hassle when your Graphics dont read and get lost. I have a Seagate External thats only 500 Gigs, but has performed flawlessly for over 6 years compared to this WD Unit @ 1 Tb. Im a Senior Student and was a fan of Western Digital Products, in fact, my Daughter purchased the Seagate as a Christmas Gift to me. I bought the W.D. Unit just to mess with her and now shes kidding me about being Old School It seems Fragile and delicate and flakey + the only reason I havent thrown it in the Gulf of Mexico, is the fact that I purchased a warranty! When I can get it to show up on my Mac, Ill dump my Data on the Sea Gate External Drive - may need to inquire about another Sea Gate - THX Update I complained back in 2015, got a second unit and it crashed. Just remembered I was to wait on Amazon for a review, that was 2 years ago. I guess Im supposed to forget about it, but I didnt, still waiting for a resolution, so I just wrote this update because the unit is Crap - still!

Just what I needed. This little hard drive has plenty of disc space and works perfectly as a time machine backup drive for my iMac. Since desk space is an issue, it is nice having a very compact drive not taking over my limited desktop area. Would recommend this to any Mac user looking for a small drive with lots of memory. The drive can also be reformatted for use on a PC.

My younger sister suggested it and so far - my daughter loves it - no problems at all on her MacBook Pro. Plug & Play - that easy. Cant quite give it 5 stars because its still brand new. But so far - so great!

Pre-formatted for MAC and works great. Transfer speed is excellent - 2.0 for my old MacBook and Im piling my music library from various sources onto it for backup. I use another for Time Machine, and its performed perfectly over the years. The price per gig keeps dropping on these things, but hopefully one of these days a well priced external flash drive will hit the scene. Until then, these work fine.

Pros: size and speed—excellent Cons: I had trouble with the initial installation because I followed the instructions to download an update. After I did so, the drive would disconnect after about 2 seconds. Finally, I discarded all WD files, restarted my laptop, and started over—this time using the old driver. Since then, I have not had any problems. The speed is phenomenal. I very quickly copied all my laptop files (with exception of system) to the little WD. However, I wrote to customer service about the driver version issue some time ago and have not received a reply—which makes me wonder about their actual service. (No, I did not call and will do that if I experience any further problems. I should add that Im using an older OSX version (Mavericks OSX 9.5.5), so perhaps the new WD driver is meant to work with newer Mac systems. One note: Make sure you order the WD drive specified for your operating system. I have a Mac and also got one for my husband, who works on a PC. By the way, he loves his. We neither one do an automatic back-up, though, because we dont leave our computers turned on all the time.
