> 3 dayPre-formatted for MAC and works great. Transfer speed is excellent - 2.0 for my old MacBook and Im piling my music library from various sources onto it for backup. I use another for Time Machine, and its performed perfectly over the years. The price per gig keeps dropping on these things, but hopefully one of these days a well priced external flash drive will hit the scene. Until then, these work fine.

> 3 dayThe WD My Passport worked perfect the moment I plugged it into my MacBook Pro. My Mac now backs up hourly long as the My Passport is installed. This is so much cheaper than using a cloud back-up system. Ive had an older My Passport for my PC for years and it still works perfect.

> 3 dayMy original WD no longer functioned after only 9 months of use. Such is the risk with any hard drive, even decent ones. I recommend using these to backup only as often as necessary (no need to have it always mounted). Consider using more than one and alternate between them to better ensure the longevity of each drive and it also never hurts to have more than one backup.

Greater than one weekI bought this EHD to replace my 2TB. As with that one, it is simple to use. The only problem that I had was that the USB cord was defective. I was about to return the drive to Amazon and thought to try another cord. It worked perfectly.

> 3 daydespite what WD says, this doesnt work natively with macs even after partitioned to. then when partitioned, it doesnt work with both. HD shut down completely. WD customer service was good and prompt (past amazon warranty) and not a lot of trouble. I now use it for just movies on a tv with a friends PC.

10-06-2025Pros: size and speed—excellent Cons: I had trouble with the initial installation because I followed the instructions to download an update. After I did so, the drive would disconnect after about 2 seconds. Finally, I discarded all WD files, restarted my laptop, and started over—this time using the old driver. Since then, I have not had any problems. The speed is phenomenal. I very quickly copied all my laptop files (with exception of system) to the little WD. However, I wrote to customer service about the driver version issue some time ago and have not received a reply—which makes me wonder about their actual service. (No, I did not call and will do that if I experience any further problems. I should add that Im using an older OSX version (Mavericks OSX 9.5.5), so perhaps the new WD driver is meant to work with newer Mac systems. One note: Make sure you order the WD drive specified for your operating system. I have a Mac and also got one for my husband, who works on a PC. By the way, he loves his. We neither one do an automatic back-up, though, because we dont leave our computers turned on all the time.

> 3 dayI purchased this hard disk to store all my photos and videos as they took up too much space on my Apple and I did not want to upload anything to cloud based servers. It was easy to setup and install files. I like the fact that it has 1TB of storage and does not need to plugged into an electrical outlet. Would highly recommend this product.

> 3 dayAwesome external hard drive! First off, the form and shape is very nice. Its more cube than the normally thin and wide external drives that youre used to. In terms of set up, you just connect it to your mac and start time machine, select this hd and it begans to back things up. The speed is awesome! My first backup was 340 gigs and was completed in about 30-40 minutes. Im very happy with this product.

08-06-2025This item was delivered one day late, but Amazon took care of that issue. It literally is plug and play. Once you plug it into your mac, it will ask if you want to use the drive for the time machine. Click yes and it will begin saving all your data on it and encrypt it too. I think I should have gotten the 3tb but you cant go wrong with either one.
