Just what I needed for storing files on my Macbook. Great deal on Amazon. It works specifically for Mac, so you dont need to reformat it. Be sure to get the one that is Mac compatible. It comes with the USB cable, and dont forget to register it to the WD website.

I own 10 or more of these Passport portable USB external hard drives, both for Mac and for Windows (you can use either on either, by the way, just need the correct Mac or Windows format). They are stable, they are great for backups, great for moving information to off-site locations, and particularly great for storing valuable photos, music, data, documents and the like off site (like in a safe deposit box). They always work, never, ever a single problem with any of them. They are the most reliable drives available, and I will continue to buy them as often as I need one. I highly recommend these drives to anyone.

A little confusing to set up at first, but it holds everything I need it to and I was able to clear a lot of space on my laptop!

This is the first external hard drive Ive used, and I found it extremely straightforward. I just removed it from its package, plugged it in to my macbook air, and then a window popped up asking me if I wanted to use it to back up my computer. I accepted and it started immediately. It only took about 20-30 minutes to complete, and then I removed it. I havent checked to see if the backup worked or not, but I assume it did and Im not sure how to check anyway. Ill post an update if anything goes wrong, but for now Im super satisfied!

Just what I needed. This little hard drive has plenty of disc space and works perfectly as a time machine backup drive for my iMac. Since desk space is an issue, it is nice having a very compact drive not taking over my limited desktop area. Would recommend this to any Mac user looking for a small drive with lots of memory. The drive can also be reformatted for use on a PC.

This item was delivered one day late, but Amazon took care of that issue. It literally is plug and play. Once you plug it into your mac, it will ask if you want to use the drive for the time machine. Click yes and it will begin saving all your data on it and encrypt it too. I think I should have gotten the 3tb but you cant go wrong with either one.

I got this just in the nick of time, on my sons advice to do time-machine backups. I have a moderately complicated setup where I switch back and forth from Mac to a windows virtual machine, and when I upgraded from Yosemite to Sierra I had some flaky problems switching back and forth. Thanks to this passport I was able to do a complete restore back to Yosemite, where everything works just fine.

So far so good, does what it says and no issue, I just pray nothing happens and it crashes since i hear that can happen with these types of devices!

Its a USB 3.0 external hard-drive, works exactly like you expect it would. Just so youre not surprised like I was, this hard drive is completely plastic. Build is fine, reasonably small and easy to carry around. Transfer speed seems appropriate for USB 3.0, connects without problem to my Mac and plays well with Time Machine.

As promised, it works seamlessly with Mac. Set up and initial backup were easy. But in all subsequent backups, it is all but impossible to see that it is working or to gague progress. Software could be a little more friendly in that sense. All in all, it does work as promised and the price is right
