I actually tested this on a Ryzen laptop as I dont own any consoles. Speed was as advertised, but honestly, I have tested smaller units that performed faster.

This was a good purchase but the drive could not and would not let me store playable games that are 2019 or newer so no halo and other various games. DO NOT BUY

The WD does a good job making decent drives. This one is pretty nice in terms of performance. One thing to note that I have always found that this was too small of a drive for a gaming drive. I would say it fills up VERY easily considering it is only 500 gb. Although it is a good idea to have your pictures and videos stored off the cloud. It is always good to have two back up drives in case one fails you do not lose everything. I found something interesting in that for many game drives I have had, this one was one of the first I did not have to format it to detect and use on windows. It is pretty much a plug and play drive. It does utilize the fast speed port and after doing a test on the transfer. It varies between 100 to 200 MB/s and can transfer a ton of files in no time although it varies based on what usb port you are using. This drive will work with USB 2.0 but it will have a definitely slower transfer speed. The hard drive does not require external power to run. It is a bit thick in size as well and can be heavy. You can transport it if needed but it is not really meant to be moved. The outside has a nice sturdy build but it is definitely not shock absorbent material. It does not make any sound as it is a solid state drive. This does connect and play easily with your xbox. You can store games and stuff on it but from what I can tell you will need to transfer to the main drive in order to play the games if it is a digital copy. The only issue is that it fills up SUPER fast. This is more for storing updates and stuff. The drive is a bit on the pricey side costing as much as 1 TB device which is a bit much. It also works pretty well with windows and if you want it on mac you will need to format it again which will make you lose the ability to plug in and use with your xbox one unfortunately. Also I would recommend transferring files little by little and not all at once to avoid any data corruption. I would also say that if you do not have many games this will work but honestly this could probably hold maybe five games considering game sizes today.

Just what I needed after filled the HD on my PS4 Pro

This SSD is fast and can be used to store new gen and old gen games BUT you CANNOT play Xbox series X/S games from the drive. You would have to move em to the internal storage.

I now own 5 or 6 of these. They are all blazing fast with true 7200RPM speed, but as many have mentioned, they can be a little noisy and clicky at times. Some of mine have more fan noise and vibration than others. Likewise some are more clicky than others. Its a little annoying if the drive is on your desktop very close to you. I really wish they provided a longer USB cable so I could place the drives further away. I suppose you could buy a longer cable. That said, when they arent actively reading/writing, etc, they are relatively quiet in sleep mode, which is most of the time. Theres nothing better out there right now in terms of speed and 8TB of storage.
