Greater than one weekBought this to use as a Time Machine backup for a Mac OSX computer. It works great, very fast, almost no heat. Its also about half the size of a normal 3.5 external case.... Only complaint as same as other users, the included cable is a joke. I bought a separate cable meant for high speed usage and its great.

Greater than one weekGreat addition to my new Xbox Series X. Super fast compared to other externals and works flawlessly. Able to transfer 100GB games in a matter of minutes instead of over an hour.

> 3 dayOne day got surprised when out of nowhere had to download some games. Thinking it was odd. Figured out why when the solid state drive wasnt turning on.

> 3 dayIt is NVMe storage, the same as the seagate expansion. Says on box it can store them and play them. Won’t allow me to play them and insists I install it to the internal.

Greater than one weekBought this as storage for xbox series. Cannot play enhanced games directly from it, but makes life easier with storage and moving files to internal hdd when needed. Great speed. Also, delivery of product exceeded expectation.

> 3 dayI bought this drive to supplement the storage capacity of my Xbox Series X for games that I play that are not Series X|S optimized. To that end its been perfect. Western Digital put some serious thought into the D30 that make it perfectly suited for this role of second tier external storage. Its attractive negating the need to hide it away, its built solidy to make it suitable in the role of free standing external storage including the fact that it clips securely into the included stand, and its performance is decidedly top tier and current even if not quite as state of the art as Microsofts velocity architecture and the proprietary Seagate expansion card or the internal M.2 options for the PS5 required for current gen games. The first night I had it I downloaded ~450gb worth of fresh installs in a continuous write operation that lasted around 2.5 hours and didnt have a single issue, with the enclosure of the drive never seeming to come much above ambient temperatures. Load times are impressive, obviously its silent and overall performance is excellent. Bottom line, this is a quality external SSD purpose built to stand along side the current generation of consoles and in this application its second to none. If youre looking for an external SSD for your Xbox Series X|S or PS5, look no further than the D30.

> 3 dayI love Western Digital, to me they are the best brand for consumer hard drives. I have had from the old internal ATA days of the Green (entry-level), Blue (consumer), and Black (pro) series. There were also Red (NAS), Purple (surveillance), and Gold (business) that I did not buy. I think they are superior to Seagate, which I had more drives failing. Then I moved on the their SSDs, first with the SATAs, and now with their NVMes, and they have never disappointed me. Nowadays I use the portable 5TB WD-Black to store my Playstation games, and the 12TB bigger external drive for my computer/file syncs/backups. The latest Im honored to review is the WD_Black D50, and this D30. The D50 with its huge 3,000MB/s speeds are a bit of a price overkill, with the 1TB version being over $400. This 500GB D30 version comes in at a much more respectable $90, with the 1TB version going for $170. So this is a great option for those who want the SSDs speeds without the SSDs prices. But in the end, it just doesnt justify its price points enough, as you can get a much faster NVMe and external enclosure for about the same price, at a faster transfer speed. And that route is more versatile as you can always put the NVME in your computer when you dont want to use it externally anymore. I feel this will go mainstream when they can half the price, as I only paid $90 for my WD_Black 5TB external portable drive. While the speed is only up to 100MB/s, the savings in price makes it worth it. When the prices are halved, I think thats when they can replace the older HDD versions, and we can finally truly move on to external SSD drives. So to be blunt, I would save money to go up to the D50 version if you are resolved to buy a finished product. Otherwise, save money, and get better performing with the DIY route and cover up an NVMe drive with an external USB-C enclosure, or even Thunderbolt enclosure if you can afford it. Wait a year on this one.

> 3 dayWorked good on my Xbox One. Made load times so much faster. Also, it works good on my X series. Being able to move games, without needing to re download is so nice
