Product purposefully, misleading the SSD is more than capable of playing Xbox series S & X games but the manufacturer purposefully made it locked out of playing video games so you are forced to spend $400 for the same item from seagate Microsoft.

I just received my shipment and opened it to find a tiny package with what appears to be the correct label but inside was only a twisted up hair tie. I have requested a refund but now have to go through the process of mailing back this garbage.

This drive was the best overall value for the dollar. Unfortunately XBOX Series X|S optimized games cannot play directly from the drive, but transferring doesnt take too long...

This drive is quite small and rather nice looking. My Mac recognized this drive immediately. I found that I could sent a large file to this drive much more quickly than to my other external drives. I think drive would be a good investment for anyone requiring a quick hard drive for a good price.

This is an industrial-looking SSD that will look good next to your PC or gaming device. And for casual gamers, this ought to be plenty fast. But there are faster SSDs out there, so keep that in mind. Gamers are notorious for demanding the best performance from their computers and peripherals. This portable SSD takes advantage of new bus speeds by delivering access speeds of up to 900MB/s. This is about double what was previously available, but there are devices out there that can deliver three times that speed. Still, I notice the speed difference this drive delivers. And it comes from Western Digital, who has a long history of making reliable drives (I use several of them for other purposes). Advice: SSDs are falling in price and gaining in speed, so check your specifications carefully. A drive with half the speed might go for about half the price, and a no-name SSD for even less. But drives that run at speeds over 1000MB/s will cost considerably more. So be sure you understand your need for speed and reliability and buy accordingly.

The Xbox indicates weak connection, even with cables changed. I guess these are early adopter issues.

I bought this for my ps5 and found out that you cant even store ps5 games on it. Only ps4. So it was useless to me and I returned. If you have a ps4 then it should be fine.

This is a decent game storage drive for a PS5, or for a PC that has Gen2 (10Gbps) USB3 ports. That said, look elsewhere if you were planning to use this SSD with an Xbox One/Series console, or with a PC that has only Gen1 (5Gbps) USB ports. Due to a strange performance quirk, this drive writes at half speed while connected to older USB3 ports, despite plenty of spare bandwidth available for its use. I initially connected this drive to a Gen2 (10Gbps) port on my PC. Copying about 100GB to the drive (similar to a couple current-gen games), the SSD reached about 500MB/s for the first 6GB or so, and then fell to 220MB/s for the remaining data. That speed drop off may not be great, but it’s a common characteristic of budget SSDs. Upon switching to a Gen1 port, the same copy operation surprisingly took much, much longer. The first 6GB peaked at about 300MB/s, which is good for a 5Gbps port. However, the remainder transferred to the SSD at a very sluggish 110MB/s. That’s an inexplicable slowdown, as the drive should be capable of the same sustained write speed as in the previous test, because that result already was fully within the limits of Gen1 USB3. The same poor write performance was evident when I tried this SSD with my Xbox Series X (which offers only Gen1 USB3 ports). Copying a 42GB game from the console’s internal SSD to this drive required 10 minutes, similar to writing on a standard hard drive. For comparison, I put a low-end NVMe SSD into a USB enclosure, and the same copy operation took only 2.5 minutes. Overall, for PS5 owners and PC users with Gen2 USB3 ports, this drive will provide serviceable but unexceptional performance. Xbox owners and users of older PCs should stay away, however, as the unusually slow sustained write speed makes it a slog to copy games to this SSD while it’s connected to a Gen1 USB3 port. Three stars.

Get in the game fast with the WD_BLACK D30 Game Drive SSD, reaching optimized speeds up to 900MB/s so you can get spawning and pwning with minimal load times and zero mercy. (Based on read speed and internal testing. 1 MB/s = 1 million bytes per second. Performance may vary depending upon host device, usage conditions, drive capacity, and other factors.)
