It seems like every other day I have to go in and re-add one of these plugs to the app/network because it says its not available. Its not difficult to do, but if multiple go out at once, its difficult to see which one youre reconnecting to unless youre watching the flashing light patterns on each of them while going through the setup. Its just annoying to have to do this on a regular basis. When they do drop off, they still retain their schedule, so your lights will still turn on and off per the set schedule, but you lose the ability to manually turn them on/off with the app or with a connected assistant (google and alexa). Then, once you reconnect to them, if you dont do it the right way you lose the schedule for that plug and have to re-program that to get it to turn on/off automatically. Theyre easy to setup, configure, and manual button works fine if you can reach where these are plugged in. Firmware needed to fix the stability and reconnection on its own. My KASA plugs seem to not have this issue, whats so different in these?

We have quite a few Wyze cams and when we recently needed a smart plug, we opted for these. They work well and have a nice scheduling feature. We run lamps and use them to remote restart network connection equipment at an offsite facility. The biggest problem is they are near impossible to update consistently. Weve had this issue with other Wyze devices too. If they are at one location with Spectrum internet NONE will ever update. No matter what you do. Bring them to the main location, reset them, attach to AT&T Fiber here, and they update. Take them to a different location with Spectrum and they also work. Take them to another and nope. So, weve had to constantly take all devices needing updates to specific locations to update. PAINFUL.

Used these to replace a pair of timers on lamps. Good flexibility on scheduling options, and can switch up the timing easily if Im away for a few days

It works well with the wyze app and is easier to keep track and control many smart plugs than using many off brands with possible network security risks. The difference in price with the wyze smart plugs and off brands is small, but the risk of exposing your network through insecure apps is great. Some off brand timers dont give the option of syncing to local sunrise and sunset or easily setting daily schedules. These smart plugs are smaller than early generations of cheap import plugs without the security risk of sharing network access with a foreign power. The trick to initial setting up seems to be putting the phone in airplane mode and only using Bluetooth and wifi to connect to the wyze smartplug. I had spent a lot of time trying to link and even update these devices until I read the blogs complaining about this bug

TL;TR; I like the company (love their cams) and this plug has good value for the $$, but it needs improvements. It is not as good as lets say Amazon plugs (more expensive) when it comes to response times, integration and reliability. I will use Wyze in non-critical applications, where I can tolerate some latency and reliability hiccups. For critical areas, I will stick to Amazon plugs for now. I have mix of Wyze and Amazon and while Wyze plugs are good buy for the money, the overall experience could be a lot better: - I use Wyze Cam with Wyze plugs to trigger plugs based on Wyze Cam person detection; it works on paper, but in practice there is 5 - 6 second delay, which limits potential uses. I understand that image recognition takes time, but this is Wyze to Wyze integration and hopefully it can be improved in time. - I also use Wyze plugs with Alexa, combined with Amazon plugs. The difference in response times (with Alexa) is noticeable, with Wyze lagging 2-3 seconds. Its just annoying when all other plugs click right away and Wyze is taking awfully long. Imagine using wall switch with 3 second delay. It is useless in areas where you need lights quickly. - Other random issues: * recent hiccup with Wyze authentication (unregistered Wyze plugs from Alexa app) - mainly inconvenience and hopefully one time issue that wont happen again; Wyze seemed to recognize the problem with notification to users. * Wyze disconnected from my wi-fi and required hard reset after restarting my Ubiquity APs (only Wyze had issues). Again, hopefully just one time, isolated problem. Dont get me wrong, I love Wyze and this tech is still impressive for the money. I love their cameras and I am NOT giving up on plugs either, but I will use these in non-critical applications only (until latency/reliability issues are improved).

After reading many forum posts on these things not working for them. I wasted an hour wondering why mine wouldnt connect. Received mine first week of Feb 2021, and the app offers selection of two versions. Knowing there was no way possibly I would have the 2021 edition I tried and tried to use standard. Well. FIRST look on the back. If you see a little blue key icon. That means its the 2021 edition and uses Blutooth. Once I realized my obvious mistake setup was a breeze. IMPORTANT.. questions on forums people kept asking was about plugging a Space Heater into one. DONT! You will catch your house on fire. These are capped at 1500 watt rating, which is standard. But even seeing screenshots of people plugging Space Heaters into Power Strips (NEVER DO THAT!) it will melt in case of a fuse break. Be very mindful on the wattage and do your research before you set up stuff. Was using for fans and shoplights but a really cool idea people were showing was using one on those bluey led sky machines. Rigged mine up with one of these and its pretty sweet with Alexa!

When setting these up for the first time the app asks if you have the original or the 2021 version of these plugs. There is no way to distinguish between the two. After a few failed attempts at the original method, I tried the 2021 method and it worked immediately. This is a great improvement over the older plugs which were always a PITA to set up. My main criticism is they seem to be in such a hurry to release new products they skip details like identifying the version of the plugs I received. Minor problem but nonetheless shows a lack of focus on the customer. Finally, my last gripe is how they laid an egg regarding the door sensors. A crappy product, released with much fanfair to their loyal customers, which disappeared like a fart in the wind. Wyze, please slow down, pay attention to the details, and do it right the first time!

EDIT: Gave it one last shot before returning it, rebooted and powered on, deleted my component in Wyze phone app and redone the setup there, connected to my 2.4Ghz instead of 5Ghz and VIOLA! - communication/working with Alexa and features working. So, Ill chalk it up to user error this time and change my review to a positive. Setup can be a bit tricky if you are unsure but overall, you will get it going. ..... I could not get Alexa to turn this plug on and off. Drops out my network and I have a clear line of site from it to the router. I reset it up and did everything again and still nothing, now Alexa doesnt even see it anymore. Setup is just iffy. Cannot even download the app to your PC. Disappointed.

Compact Wi-Fi smart plug. Switches are a thing of the past.
