> 24 hourI finally bit the bullet and bought a Microsoft Xbox One because, finally, a game I wanted to play came out for it which does not yet have a PC port. As a life-long PC gamer, where Steam is my second home, I must say that Im impressed with Microsoft and this generation of console. There was another reason behind me finally jumping back into the console world and that is the PC ports as of late have been buggy and horribly optimized as a general rule. There are some exceptions, but once again it seems that these large publishing companies and Triple-A developers have been slacking on the optimization of their PC releases. Now I wont hesitate to purchase Dishonored 2, where Ive been reluctantly avoiding it for PC. Ive always been a fan of Microsoft (I am a PC guy as Ive mentioned) and I must say that the GUI of the One is very familiar to us Windows 10 OS users. There is some clunkiness to it, as items are hovering everywhere and its quite easy to stumble through it looking for something as simple as your game library or the Xbox Gold Store. I hope they continue to refine the UI, but it definitely feels like a true media centered operating system. Because I use an HTPC already, I dont take full advantage of the media center aspects of the One, but for people who would like to use it as an addition to their television, its definitely up for the task with Netflix, Amazon Video, HBO Go, and others, all the while fulfilling its role as a hub for movies, shows, entertainment, and games. Speaking of which, the option of purchasing and downloading/installing games right from the implemented Store is the ultimate convenience. I cannot remember the last time I went to a Gamestop. Walking into a game store always evokes a somewhat nostalgic joy of my past, so it does sadden me to lack nearly any reason to take a trek to one, but Microsoft has surely made it convenient, being generous to my laziness. The games--indie and Triple-A alike--are mostly at a good price--discounted with a Gold membership--and download really quickly with a 50MBps ISP. The One S itself is much sleeker than its One predecessor and is a beautiful piece of hardware. The white paint and chassis are attractive, looking good no matter where you place it. Its extremely quiet unlike the 360 and remains cool. The HDMI In/Out is a great addition and two USB 3.0s can allow two external, fast storage HDDs. Speaking of HDDs, the one inside the S is sadly slow. It isnt even a 7200RPM hard drive. I plan at least putting a spare 1TB FireCuda SSDH in there or a 500GB SSD, eventually. Loading times are extremely slow, especially in FF15. A USB-C port would also have been a great addition by Microsoft for future-proofing and offering that headroom for super-fast external storage, but sadly there isnt one just yet. Even though Ive used an Xbox One Gamepad for my PC for a while now, I still wanted to remark how much more I like the new One Controllers. The controller that comes bundled in this one is nice and feels great in the hand with a rougher texture where your fingers lay. Battlefield 1 is also a fun game. Overall, Im impressed with the One S and am happy I finally gave in and bought one. I highly recommend it!
