So, let me start by saying that “socket rails” have been around for quite some time. There have been so many different redesigns of the rail system and it appears that everyone is trying to make the proverbial “better mouse trap”. Well as a professional mechanic (Aircraft, Boats, Automobiles, Homes, etc.) I have to say that this rail system is a notch above the rest and deserves 5 stars for several reasons. The Olsa Tools socket rail to start gives you 16 socket attachments where others will give you only 12 or so. Yes other companies are starting to also give you the extra socket attachments but… Olsa Tools make their extra socket attachments available to you. The spring loaded ball bearing keeps just the right amount of tension to hold the socket. The clips slide on the rail with ease. You have seen those who use metal rails and metal clips, well personally I have been cut on those clips too many times to count and when the clips get worn the sockets get either stuck with dry metal friction or the clip loses its “spring” and the sockets fall off. Their choice of color allows you to keep Metric, SAE, and “in my case I use the black rail for” miscellaneous.

cant beat them for the price. they work a lot better than the spring steel retainers i used to use. no more sockets rolling around my tool box! Id buy again!

Not a bad price, but you need to put a zip strip in the end holes to stop the clips with sockets from sliding off the end of the rails in a tool bag. Other than that these are great!

I really like these socket racks. At least for now. They work really well, and allow me ot organize my sockets fairly easily. I purchased the 3 piece set, with quarter inch, three eighths inch, and half in drive racks. Design: The half inch rack is perfect. I cannot fit more than 16 half in drive sockets on the rack, so that is sufficient. However the three eighths in rack could hold several more (probably 4 to 6). And the quarter in rack could hold (and should hold) a whole lot more, probably 24 to 26 to fill it out reasonably well. Yes, you can buy 6 additional pegs, but the price is exorbitant. For the price, they should include the cheaply made plastic pegs to fill out a rack with the initial purchase. It would be nice if they included magnetic attachments that could slide on the rail facing the back of the rail. That way you could stick them to the outside of your toolbox, or any other metal surface. Construction: The rail is aluminum, and therefore nice and rigid. The pegs that hold the individual sockets are plastic with a metal ball bearing detent, and (presumably) a metal spring behind it. This works pretty well, and you can slide the pegs along the rail as you wish (and need). You can also remove or replace a socket with one hand, which is nice. The aluminum rail means you can carry the rack around with you and be assured they will not sag and sockets fall off. The plastic pegs are probably very suitable and appropriate for the overall operation, but for the price they should at least include the additional three eighths and half inch pegs t hat you will probably need and either buy, or deal with wasted space in the toolbox. The plastic pegs have a visible seam line where the part was molded, but it doesnt seem to affect the function. Function: These work really well. The aluminum base rail is thick and stiff enough that it does not flex at all, even picking up a full rack of heavy sockets. The sockets click on and off the pegs nicely and even large heavy sockes are held securely. I like the fact that they are easily removed and replaced.

Great socket holders. Well made and easily remove sockets. A bit pricey.

I bought two 3 packs (1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 inch) to replace the plastic case that my 40 year old Craftsman Mechanics socket set came in. Every time I opened the case all the sockets fell out and after a while I just stopped organizing. Now I use one set for my metric sockets and one on my standard sockets. The ball bearings on each socket slot is just like that of a socket wrench. They never fall off and make organizing super easy. I highly recommend these! My 40 year old Craftsman set will now last another 40 years!

Dont listen to the two-star review by some Amazon_Customer who claims that the ball bearing spring is not strong enough to hold heavy (18mm+) deep impact sockets. I have to disagree 100% with that claim. I have a set of 1/2 drive deep impact sockets ranging in size from 7/16 to 1 1/4, and the clips on this socket rail will EASILY retain those sockets, even when the rail is held up-side-down. This rail with all of those sockets weighs 8 1/2 pounds, and I can easily lift the whole thing by grasping only two sockets. Now of course, with impact sockets, you do have to correctly position the socket on the clip so that the ball on the clip engages the hole in the side of the socket. Otherwise, you definitely will have trouble with poor socket retention. My only complaint is that there is nothing to keep the clips from sliding off the end of the rail except for the rubber end caps, and those would be insufficient for retaining a rail-full of heavy sockets if the rail were hung vertically. The obvious solution to that is to put a small bolt through one of the end holes. So that isnt really a problem if you work in a mechanic shop and have easy access to bolts of all sizes, but Olsa really needs to rectify this flaw. Other than that, this is a great socket holder.

I bought these socket organizers to finally get my Craftsman socket set out of the plastic molded case because they would frequently fall out of their spots inside the case, so I would have to spend several minutes putting them back. I use red for SAE, blue for metric, and black for extensions, etc. There are holes in the ends of the rails so you can screw them to a backing plate, or the inside of a drawer, etc. The rubber end caps slide off easily, which is by design, so you can swap out sockets, or add/remove sockets. If you prefer the sockets be locked onto the rails you can make sure the bolt head you use to attach them sticks above the clips and acts as a stop. Alternatively, you could just bend the rails at the ends to lock the sockets on, but I wouldnt do that because it would be too permanent. You can order extra clips, rails, and end caps, so you can cut rails into smaller rails and make custom holders. The clips are great and hold the sockets on well. I had a problem with my order and contacted the seller through Amazon. Mark from Olsa Tools got back to me right away and resolved the issue immediately. Five stars all around.
