Truly replicates the nostalgic feel of holding a SNES controller, however, it does remind you that those controllers were severely lacking in many respects; modern controllers are infinitely more ergonomic for real human hands and a more appropriate size. The controllers feel incredibly small, at first I thought this was a defect but I believe our memories are of times when our hands were smaller.

Beat SMB3 and most of Super Mario World before one controllers B button began to stick. Now it sticks and wont depress without repeatedly jiggling the top of the button. Both controllers D-pad provides too much wiggle room. With just my fingertip on the edge of the d pad, I can move 3 directions. Should not be able to do this, causes unintentional diagonal movements during gameplay. I read in reviews some people are receiving replacement controllers of higher quality? I assumed when I ordered I would get 2 high quality controllers, and I hope these arent what people are referring to as higher quality! To be fair, I can play earthbound and other turn based retro RPGs fine. But that is true with a keyboard.

One of the controllers arrived with both “Start” and “Select” buttons pressed in and wedged underneath the case (most likely damaged in transit). I probably could have fixed this by unscrewing the case, but I had issues with the other one so I ended up returning them. The D-pad on the other controller sometimes registered in the down direction when scrolling left and right on menus and while playing games. Also, it was very difficult to make some fluid movements. I thought it was just me until I tried the Buffalo controllers and had zero issues. On a positive note, kittata seems to have good customer service.

We all know exactly what these SNES-like USB game pads are for. Ive owned and played a SNES since I was 4, I still have an original SNES controller and I use it a lot, so Im intimately familiar with how the genuine article looks and feels. By comparison, the kiwitata model feels slightly more rigid and less prone to flexing or bending, the surface feels smoother or slicker, its slightly darker in color, the shoulder buttons are a bit mushier, and the face buttons stand a bit taller. Its enough to catch me out sometimes, unless I manage to get properly immersed in a game. Its better than playing with the keyboard though. Oddly enough, when I first plugged them in, the computer didnt recognize them. I rebooted the machine, and it still didnt see the game controllers. I thought one might be dead on arrival, so I swapped to the other one, no joy. I rebooted the machine again, and lo and behold theyve been working fine ever since. Computers, amirite?

They kept to the classic feel but I think some of the buttons could be easier to press down.

I needed a SNES controller for my video game review series Georg Mack Plays the Classics. I hemmed and hawed for awhile and decided on these. So far, theyve been great. They feel good, buttons are nice, and compatibility for what I want is there. If I wear them out, Ill buy them again at this point.

Surprisingly solid. Ive tried quite a few of these and considered iBuffalo to set the bar for knock off pads, but these are really quite good. They have a heftier weight than others which makes them feel a little more quality as well.
