The AcuRite temperature sensor is the weak point in their Backyard Weather Max/min Thermometer. I bought a Backyard Weather Max/min Thermometer that worked fine for about a year and then the sensor failed. A neighbor had the same experience. Both our sensors were on north facing walls under porches and so did not get direct sun nor direct rain. But they are used in Florida so are subject to humidity. I could not replace the sensor at my local big box store and so I replaced the whole thermometer. I still have the display in its original packaging as I am using the original in house digital display. The second sensor again worked for about a year but then failed. It still sends signals regularly but it now reports outside temperatures of 150-160F when it is actually 85-90F. Not wanting to purchase yet another full Backyard Weather Max/min Thermometer when I have two in house digital display systems, I turned to Amazon and found I could buy the AcuRite outdoor temperature sensor. Unfortunately, the first sensor I purchased was faulty and did not function! Amazon refunded the purchase price and I bought another sensor--that works! I will come back to this review when the sensor fails. But actually there is no other make of outdoor max/min temperature with wireless connection to an indoor display that I can find as an alternative. I am updating this review immediately, as the new sensor wireless signal is not as powerful as the original ones were. I cannot maintain contact between the outside sensor and the display unit on a dresser near my dining room. I have had to put the display unit on the inside of the wall that that the sensor is hung on. I cannot see it form my kitchen or dining room and so that is not as convenient as it was before. Second update: the sensor appeared to fail after one week and so I took the advice from Rachel at AcuRite Customer Loyalty and called in to them. They took me through all the steps -- taking out batteries and replacing them, including on the display. It turns out my display has developed problems. I still have the second display from the full Backyard Weather Thermometer that I bought a year ago. It is now connected to the sensor and all is working well. My display is back on the cabinet in my diningroom, and reflecting the correct 90F temperature out side and correct 82F inside temperature

Works perfectly but should have priced a new one first. Part cost almost as much as whole unit.

I would think anyone using these devices would understand that accuracy is not going to be perfect. Yes the basic units will read different sometimes right next to each other. So many variables. Simply a tad of shade or for example a piece of rebar under a concrete slab under one sensor but not the other can make a difference. For me the place I work lost a lot of food when a circuit breaker tripped on our ice cream freezers, I now have a 7 sensor system to cover coolers and freezers. Do I really care if the temp is off one or two degrees, not really. I only care to know that the temperature is rising. One alert set for 18F and another at 26F. The 18F is early warning and the 28F says get your but over and see what is happening. Bottom line for personal use do you really need to know if the outside temp is 95 vs 97? If you have a mission critical use for these devices you should probably be spending close to or over $1000 for a system if your business needs to be that precise. Even mechanical wire thermometers side by side can read different. This even includes Taylor food thermometers. For perfect accuracy get something that works with mercury.

I was able to pair this remote station with my inside station without any problem. The entire system works well. Over time the outdoor station will wear out and is easily replaced.

We needed a new sensor/remote for our AcuRite weather station (old one had finally broke). Put in the batteries, made sure it was set on the same channel as the station, and voila! We have a weather station that’s working again. Much cheaper than buying a brand new station, and I was concerned if this new sensor would work correctly. This new sensor has both temp & humidity readings on it, but the old one didn’t have either of those. Still worked just fine with the older station.

I got three of these in a set with a display four years ago. One of them stopped working correctly, so I had to buy a replacement. I know electronics dont last forever, but four years seems kind of short.

My Accu-rite weather station stopped receiving signal from outdoor sensor. I thought I was going to have to replace the whole system. This sensor paired with my station and its working great again.
