04-06-2025I would think anyone using these devices would understand that accuracy is not going to be perfect. Yes the basic units will read different sometimes right next to each other. So many variables. Simply a tad of shade or for example a piece of rebar under a concrete slab under one sensor but not the other can make a difference. For me the place I work lost a lot of food when a circuit breaker tripped on our ice cream freezers, I now have a 7 sensor system to cover coolers and freezers. Do I really care if the temp is off one or two degrees, not really. I only care to know that the temperature is rising. One alert set for 18F and another at 26F. The 18F is early warning and the 28F says get your but over and see what is happening. Bottom line for personal use do you really need to know if the outside temp is 95 vs 97? If you have a mission critical use for these devices you should probably be spending close to or over $1000 for a system if your business needs to be that precise. Even mechanical wire thermometers side by side can read different. This even includes Taylor food thermometers. For perfect accuracy get something that works with mercury.

> 3 dayThis worked well with the indoor unit I purchased six years ago. I had placed the original outdoor sensor in a location that was not protected from weather so it needed to be replaced. My bad but nice to have it working again.

> 3 dayThis replacement sensor connected easily to my inside unit and started right up. It saved me from having to purchase a whole complete system.

> 3 dayI bought this as a replacement for the AcuRite Wireless Sensor I bought over 15yrs ago. It was worth the purchase over buying a whole new weather system. I also bought the cover for it to help keep it out of the elements. Here in Michigan, our weather can go through some extreme changes and sometimes some rough conditions.

> 3 dayI bought several of these. They all seem to work fine. Im using a cheap SDR to read them with an RTL433 docker, and feed them to Home Assistant via MQTT. There are times where its not super consistently reading some of them, but there is probably a lot of metal blocking/interfering in some of the locations they were placed. Even the ones in the far backyard, on the other side of a 1/2 acre read successfully every so often. Overrall, Im happy with them.

> 3 dayTo reduce expenses and to help protect the environment, in early 2021 our household started taking a number of measures to cut our energy consumption. Those measures have proven successful: total 2021 electricity consumption in our single-family, detached home in the US SE was about 8,000 kWh (3,200 of which was for HVAC), compared to about 11,000 kWh annual average in previous years. [UPDATE on 1/1/23: our total electricity consumption in 2022 dropped even further to just 5,500 kWh (1,600 of which was for HVAC) for the year. We have HALVED our electricity consumption. Huge savings. This sensor continues to operate beautifully.] Our HVAC system screen shows us how much energy it uses daily/monthly/annually. It’s a useful monitoring tool. We use three other tools to help us understand our energy usage and provide us insights into steps we could take to save: a plug-in electricity usage monitor and a thermal imager (both discussed below), as well as our AcuRite weather station with two of these add-on sensors. Our AcuRite set-up allows us to monitor temperature and humidity in four places at once: outside, in our living room, in our crawlspace, and in our unfinished attic. Those four readings cycle on the AcuRite screen every couple of seconds, quickly giving us a full overview of things. Thanks to these readings, we have established a smarter, more energy-efficient way of ventilating our crawlspace and keeping humidity low in there. The readings also helped us see that our attic needed additional ventilation in the roof, prompting us to purchase and install a 4 Seasons Solar Powered Polycarbonate Vent, Weatherproof Design, Quietly Cools Up to 500 Sq Ft, 400 CFM: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DMSCPJA Here are some other products we purchased at Amazon that we can recommend to those interested in cutting home energy consumption: Kuman KW47-US Electricity Usage Monitor Plug Power Watt Voltage Amps Meter with Digital LCD www.amazon.com/Electricity-Monitor-Voltage-Overload-Protection/dp/B07DPJ3RGB Looking back, we can say that purchasing a Usage Monitor Plug has been one of our wisest and most useful moves, and a very inexpensive one at that. Klein Tools TI250 Rechargeable Thermal Imager: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B089QW8R9S This tool, along with the Usage Monitor Plug, gave us a very good picture of where we were wasting energy. It was thanks to this tool that we realized, for example, that our then uninsulated recessed lights were really problematic, prompting us to purchase the following. FF130E Recessed Light Cover: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002XVPUAO If you have recessed lights and they’re not well insulated in the attic, energy wastage can be massive. We shared some of these lights with relatives in the North; they also report that their lights are going strong after a rough winter.
