This box really has a wow factor. The packaging is incredible. But big problem: there’s not enough paint in one of the small tubes to paint anything bigger than a miniature. Not enough for a serious artist. I find I’m suddenly out of a color with no replacement. Plus there are metallic and pearized colors that I never use. So—too many colors for a beginner (they’re going to mix muddy colors) and not enough paint for an experienced one. If you’re going to have a try-it box, you need to have a reorder list with larger tubes of paint.

These pieces gave me the ideal opportunity to try out Arteza Gouache. There was very little mixing to get colors that were close to the original manuscript and the paints came out of the tube smooth and creamy with very little prep needed and none of the oil you sometimes get. It wasnt grainy either! I was able to set up a traveling palette and only a few crumbled and broke and those were the orange, dark purple and black, they paints rehydrated with quickly and evenly. I still prefer a different gold, silver and bronze they needed multiple layers. The paint flowed smoothly from the brush and took highlights and shading like a dream. I would highly recommend these paints to an artist just starting out as a quality, inexpensive starter set.

I love these paints! only docked a star because you cannot purchase the individual tubes if you run out of a color. if Arteza starts doing individual tubes then I would change it for 5 stars! You get a huge amount of colors and therr are often $10 off coupons especially on Amazon. I tried the Reeves gouache and the Masters Touch gouache at my local hobby stores and these Arteza paints are by far the best ones Ive tried. No streakiness and the selection of colors makes for infinite color mixing options! -Tasha Null of Null and Void Art

This review concerns the 60 color set of Arteza gouache. Im an amateur landscape painter with some years of experience working with colors for photographic printing, and for painting with pastels. For my purposes as a beginner at gouache, the Arteza set is a good start, for now. Theres a wide selection of colors, and for the beginner many of the colors are quite adequate in saturation. As with any gouache, some colors are more opaque than others, and it takes some practice to learn how to apply the paint properly. Im pleased with the set. However, there are some surprising limitations. First, there is no cyan, as such, and no magenta, as such. These are surprising omissions, since cyan and magenta are foundational colors. There is no Paynes gray, which would have been a very helpful addition. The olive green supplied will not appeal to many people. The browns supplied are not attractive (okay, theyre actively ugly!) The range of purples and lilacs is quite limited. While you can mix approximations of all these colors, I wonder how many purchasers of this set will be interested in learning how to mix them. Instead of the above colors, there are several pearl metallic colors which some people might like, but most people will not use. I think anyone whos half serious about painting will want to learn how to mix a range of browns, purples, and lilacs. Once you get started doing that, youll quickly find out how easy it is to mix other colors. Despite the above limitations, I like this set. Its fun to play around, mixing colors which appeal to me more than some of those supplied. I would recommend this to a friend, with the same warnings Ive included here.

I had tried cheap-o gouache before - you know the ones I mean - and was always frustrated. This Arteza set was a game changer for me. It works so much better. I love the matte finish, and will be using this instead of acrylic paint in my journal from now on.

Ive been painting with gouache for years and was super excited to try this set. Did not disappoint! The colors are a nice variety, which includes a lot of glittery colors. The colors are a good starting point to then mix and create your own. Works well on most paper, very blendable, water down or leave thick both look great. The only down side is that the tubes are small, so you have to watch out you dont run out of a color before its too late. Overall an awesome purchase!

The gouache is easy to work with. Its highly pigmented. But the metallic colors, have little shine to it. It shows well wet. But when the paint dries, the metallic effect dissappear. Some of the colors are neon. So swatching them, before you start, would be smart. Its a good set for beginners that wants a lot of pre mixed colors.
