This Arteza set of sixty gouache paint colors is a rotating lightening deal and makes a great purchase for yourself or as a gift. This extended set is very well packaged for long term storage and the box exterior has a handy and well-organized replica of the full palette. The tube sizes are fairly generous and can be used straight from the tube or mixed with water or to complement watercolors. The set includes a generous selection of shimmery colors along with a wide range of every imaginable color. Gouache is easy to use, can add dimension and is very forgiving. It washes up easily. I think this set makes an excellent gift that will inspire hours and hours of fun and talent development. For gift giving, add some nice tablets of watercolor paper and a set of brushes that have just a little stiffness to them.

These are good for beginners, but depending on how you want to use your paint youre going to be in for a time. The Good 1. If you work directly from a tube and dont want to bother with color mixing, these will suit you fine. 2. Theyre pretty cheap at less than $1/tube, so you can experiment with them without breaking the bank. The Bad 1. These little tubes are prone to getting stuck or even exploding. This usually isnt a problem, because you can always just pot an exploded tube, but... 2. These are not really made to work from dry. At all. Most of the metallic colors actually turn to plastic bricks and wont rehydrate no matter what wizardry you throw at them because theyre acrylic gouaches. TL;DR: Overall these feel like student-grade gouache. They offer a great amount of surface coverage (very desirable in a student-grade paint!) and many premixed colors that make life easier if you dont want to have to mix all your colors. But even though Arteza swears these are artist grade Id say youre better off not expecting artist-grade paint for less than a $1/tube! You Have to Work Straight From The Tube Personally I work from dry pans. Its not everyones bag and if youre cool with digging through a giant box of tubes and dont want a color organized pallet, this isnt going to bother you as much! I dried these for a week in pans along with some Winsor and Newton colors to see how they stacked up. The Arteza paints lost 2/3 their volume due to evaporation (which isnt always bad, you can usually rehydrate them) while the Winsors lost only 1/4. Some Colors are Acrylic Gouache Most of the metallic colors in this set seem to have some kind of acrylic or plasticized base and will not rehydrate at all (youll see what I mean if you check out the rehydrated pallet image). Once the paint sets you wont be able to rework it and thats just a big problem for me when working with something fungible like gouache. I can generally get 3 fills of a halfpan out of a 15ml tube of artist grade paint, but I could maybe get 2x tops out of these because of all the evaporation. Poor Color Mixing Ive had issues with creating custom color mixes, probably because some colors have plastic bases and others have different levels of fillers and the like. This is a paint meant to be used straight from the tube! I spoke with a representative from Arteza that told me they couldnt tell me the percentage of binders/fillers/pigment in their product, only that they use peach gum. They told me that theyd have their scientists look into the issues I experienced but... yeah. An aside: do not buy the Arteza spiral bound watercolor notebooks. These are pulp paper (wood paper; your paint will sink to the bottom of the paper and buckle, very messy!) that will give you terrible results! If youre on a budget get some Canson XL Watercolor Coldpress paper, or Arches Coldpress foldover notebooks. Both of these are going to make even eh paint shine and help you save time and money if youre just starting out!

I bought this to use as an intro to gouache and it has been one of my favorite purchases as far as art supplies go. I have a tendency to buy professional art supplies even when I’m learning something new, but I had heard about these paints and loved the idea of getting a quality start without overspending. I’ve been very impressed with the performance of these!

These are not acrylic paints! Theyre water based, but the whole set FLAT paint! I should have looked up the word GOUACHE. So I am at fault. Dont get me wrong the paint texture and color is very good, but there is no shine to them whatsoever.

I love these paints for practice sketching. However I can not give them 5 stars due to the fact they mold super quick. I have waste quick a bit of paint cleaning out the mold. Otherwise I would recommend them.

Nice set of gouache. A mix of names artist colors as well as unique named colors(ex: ballerina pink). Very happy with the pigment load and variety of colors. For me there are a few more pale colors than Id like, and would have liked to see raw umber, indian red, raw sienna but again still satisfied with the colors I found. You can see from the photos which are opaque and which colors life out easily(white line above the black).

Coming from a beginner with guache this paint is pretty decent. Pros: - color selection - rich, vibrant colors -pearl colors are really beautiful - paint layed down pretty smooth and dried to a matte finish. -a little goes a long way - gives you two white colors which is great for mixing. Cons - some of the colors are a bit transparent , even the ones that are marked opaque. This is most prominent when laying a lighter color over a darker color (ex. Black). This can be remedied by adding less water or a second layer. - pearl colors are beautiful but did not lay well over darker colors. - not many skin shades in this kit so be ready to mix colors.

I put these colors in an air-tight palette. They molded after a couple days (before I had gotten a chance to use them.) I cleaned the mold out and set them aside, came back 3 days later and the same colors had molded again. Disgusting. And, too late for me return.

I GOT A BOOK Get Started with GOUACHE by Emma Block and I got THIS SET OF GOUACHE paints to go with it, per a You Tuber Ive been following. I DO LOVE THESE PAINTS. This is a new medium for me to experiment with. Im not an artist by any stretch of the imagination, but I do love to paint my composition book pages before I start to collage/write/decorate the page for the day. These are proving to be a medium I will enjoy a lot and I have a feeling my acrylic paints may NOT be getting replaced as they run out. This set of Gouache paints are really nice. Easy to use, rather spendy, but I believe they will last a long time. Very versatile and beautiful colors in this set.

Love the consistency of the paints! My only complaint is that the actual colours don’t match the outside of the tube
