People seem bent out of shape that it isnt a great baby sign language video - well I didnt think that was the point. Its title simply says first words around the house. I bought it so my daughter could learn those words and the signs are just a nice bonus! Though I did think it was odd they had a computer in the playroom...

This is a must have......my son who is 11 months loves this video. Even though he is too young for the words he is not too young for sign language. Im able to make dinner again with the help of this video !

My daughter loves all the other Baby Einstein movies; however this one is about like watching paint dry. After the first 5 minutes my daughter doesnt have any interest, and me personally I find it a totally boring. There are some things in the movie that are cute and make my daughter laugh, but those are very few and far between. If you are interested in baby sign language, I would strongly recommend Baby Signing Time. My daughter loves the baby signing time movies and when I put it on she comes running to watch them. Dont waste your money on Baby Wordsmith, I would recommend any other Baby Einstein movie.

My daughter is 2 1/2 years old and has a speech disorder (her delay at the time of this writing is about 12 months). She is talking a lot more lately and signing less but still found this DVD interesting. She is not the only toddler I have heard of recently who has learned not only new signs from this DVD but actual verbal words. I have had to specifically teach her most of the words that she now speaks but after viewing this DVD she spoke words that I have previously tried to get her to say (i.e., clock, cup, couch, etc.) and failed! I also appreciated the variety of signs presented as well. There are so many baby signing DVDs on the market today and a lot of them show the same basic signs - which is perfectly fine, as children need to start somewhere, and there are a certain amount of signs that most children start with. But within the 25 signs shown on this DVD were ones she hadnt been exposed to, which prompted her making the sign as well as speaking the word. I hope this DVD brings signing with babies a lot more exposure, because I think that it is such a wonderful thing to start with children.

My 14 month old has liked, I mean LOVED Baby Einstein since he was two months old. But he REALLY gets into Baby Wordsworth. I think its because it seems to be a little more advanced than the others and he recognizes things from around our house. He hasnt used any of the signs yet (weve had it two days) but I can already see him connecting what he sees in the video with things around the playroom, kitchen etc. I know he still loves his older ones but this one engages him in a different way. I do see how it may bore much younger babies but if your little is already a big BE fan then this is the perfect addition and a step in a more educational direction.

I AM A HUGE BE FAN! MY SON LOVES THIS DVD AS WELL AS MOST BE DVDS. HE HAS BEEN WATCHING FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS HE IS 19 MONTHS NOW AND CAN DO ALL THE SIGNS AND SAY THE ITEM BEFORE IT COMES ON SCREEN. IT IS QUITE IMPRESSIVE. FOR SOME REASON THE MUSIC AND PUPPETS KEEP HIM VERY ENGAGED HE IS ABLE TO SIT THROUGH THE ENTIRE DVD. THE MUSIC IS ALSO NICE FOR THE ADULT IN THE HOUSE IT IS PEACEFUL TO HAVE PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND.

Baby Einstein is my sons favorite thing to watch. We have all the DVDs and he loves them. I was excited that they finally came out with one that has signing in it. My son is two, and has been hearing impaired since birth. He wears hearing aids, and is doing very well. He knows over 230 signs and verbalizes well. I was so glad that this DVD was made. We dont do ASL, we do SEE (Signing Exact English). However, whenever they would use signs that werent SEE, we just show him the right ones that we use, especially when they use really weird complicated ones like blocks and puzzle. My sons speech therapist and I were especially surprised at those two signs, because they chose to use such complicated ones. Other than that, (and the fact that they did signs for all rooms except the bathroom) the DVD is great. The only other complaint I have is that I was hoping to see hearing impaired kids featured in the DVD and signing as well. It would have been nice to see other little kids with hearing aids signing with the others. Thats not all though. Kids need to know that everyone is important. They need to see more special kids with the attention on them for a change. These children are such special gifts. The kids labeled as different means something much much more than that. They are different because God chose to make them more special. These are the kids that teach US and bless US beyond anything we can imagine, and the fact that more people and children dont get to experience the blessings that these special individuals have to share is a shame. I can only pray that as the world becomes more interested in signing, they become more compassionate and interested in the PEOPLE, and not just the signing trend.

The music, graphics and puppetry in this DVD are superb. The flaw in this DVD is that it doesnt give the non-hearing impared child what it needs. Children need to see a close-up view of a face and lips, mouthing new words. Children who cant yet talk fluidly shouldnt be losing half the screen to signing. Its too confusing. I have a pair of two year olds that clearly get distracted by the hand movements. One major obstacle that most kids face when learning a language is to learn the correct pronunciation of words. They need to see EXACTLY what the tongue and lips are doing to make a sound. The relative size of the mouth of the signer on the screen in this DVD is too small. The signing version should be a special feature. Or make a non-signing version as the special feature where my babies can see a close up of a face mouthing words. Once they can correcly pronounce the words, then they can watch the signing and learn it. But give me a choice here.

the movie its self is OK not the best baby einstein but it drives me crazy that after you go through the whole menu and push play there is a 5 min commercial about little enisteins!!! If you want to do something like that, do it when the dvd first starts.
