It has been a few years since I purchased a new monitor. All of my past monitors and TVs were Samsung. Obviously the resolution was going to be better than my 1080P, but the color is also much better. This replaced an even older Samsung, now I want to replace the newer one also.

I wanted a monitor for my Xbox One X to both game, and watch TV/Movies on occasion. This BenQ does the trick. The picture is great, and the speakers are a nice surprise. I dont think you can do much better at this price point.

This is my first 1440p monitor, so I dont have anything else to compare to. But so far Im very pleased with it. The picture is crystal clear and sharp (the jump from 1080p was immediately apparent), colors look nice, tested the backlight bleed / glow with a fully black image and found it to be quite minimal and acceptable to my standards (unlike the AOC 27G2 I just bought and am about to return). In terms of ergonomics, its true that its bizarrely lacking in that there is no height adjustment whatsoever. But Im lucky that on my monitor stand on my desk it sits at a perfect height. The HDRi I would say looks okay in certain games, I even had it on for a while playing Monster Hunter World, but in the end found it just a little too saturated / colorful for my taste. I wouldnt consider that a reason for getting this monitor. I am pleasantly surprised about the speakers. Its good enough that I actually just got rid of my $20 desk speakers to clear up the clutter and wires on my desk, and will go on with just the speaker monitors for when Im not using my headphones. Last but not least, I thought I wouldnt care about the remote that comes with it, but honestly its very handy and now whenever I think about changing monitor settings by clicking buttons on the monitor it sounds primitive and like a pain in the ass. I even use it to turn the monitor off and on. Worth the money, IMO.

The most remarkable thing about this monitor is that it has a a remote. The TLDR version of this review is that BenQ is using an obscure or new remote code to control this monitor that you most likely won’t find is compatible with your universal remote. This is a huge fail on the part of BenQ since the only reason you’d want a remote is to control the monitor remotely while using a different device (presumably with its own remote). I also own a 4K ASUS monitor in the same price range and it’s per much exactly the same (but a little cheaper). So if we’re being honest here, the only thing that sets this monitor apart is a feature rendered largely useless in practical application. I bought it as a second monitor that could be used as a dual display or, when hooked up to my Roku, act as a 4K TV. The Roku universal remote for the Roku Stick+ has both IR and Bluetooth. It also is programmable with an insane amount of codes, including 12 remote codes for BenQ TVs. Yes, that’s right, they didn’t use one of these existing codes and opted to use an obscure or new one. Since the stick is behind the display, you’ll need to control it via Bluetooth and I know of no “learning” universals that come with that capability. Sometimes remote codes used by a different manufacturer will work but I have‘my found any and I’ve spent over an hour trying every name brand you’ve likely heard and some you haven’t.

All I’m gonna say about this monitor is. First impressions are everything. At 600 dollars I expected this thing to, at the very least come with everything needed to game at 1440 144hz. It came with some crummy hdmi cable and a usb c cable. Where the hell is the display port cable. Pissed is an understatement. Asus didn’t do this kind of crap and they’ll have my business in the future

So I figured I would go ahead and make a review for this beautiful monitor after owning it for 3 months now. The colors are spot on and beautiful, very vibrant. I waited to make the review to see whether or not there would be any backlight bleed or ghosting of any sorts. However Im proud to say there is neither. I had never owned a high end monitor till now. I love this monitor so much, and dont regret my purchase. If your in the market for a nice High End IPS monitor, this one here is yours.

I like how the built in sound bar has better quality than I hope for. The image and color is good as well. Would buy again.

For some dumb reason, amazon groups reviews and questions. This is going to be coming from a photographer enthusiast and a gaming enthusiast. I’m not going to nit pick every fiber wrong with the monitor but rather what I have noticed on a day to day basis. I’ve owned the monitor since April 2020 First and foremost, this is a great monitor. I picked up photography while I was a senior in high school and I have quickly fallen into it with expensive gear and now expensive set ups. I need color and I need accurate color. This monitor checks that box pretty well. I enjoy everything about it in that regard. The fact that its a high refresh rate screen really helps. I built a PC with a 2070 super in it and a Ryzen 5 3600, I can hit high frame in my games and I can do heavy photo manipulation - I wanted a high refresh rate screen as well to accommodate the PC and this thing delivers. I seriously enjoy this monitor and everything it brought to the table. Its on the pricey side but I recommend either waiting for this to dip into the sub $500 range or look on bhphoto for its sales. The only thing that would drive me away from this monitor is its small port hub. It has 2 HDMI 2.0 (just good enough to drive that 2K144) and 1 DisplayPort 1.4. I suppose thats enough but I certainly would enjoy more. Its not that big of a deal at the end of the day. The monitor stand is also a bit lackluster with no real movement from it. VESA mounts are inexpensive and I highly recommend getting one anyways so at the end of the day, that is easy to disregard as well. The speakers, although its monitor speakers, blow me away. I say that in relation to other monitor speakers. I already use headsets and earbuds for media use but whenever I have someone over, its nice to have a pretty decent set of speakers. The HDRi is nice. Playing Modern Warfare 2019 allows the colors to pop more and keeps the shows I watch a little more lively. It is set to 400 nits I believe so its just barely hitting the marker for legitimate HDR but its great and I see nothing wrong from it. I enjoy it. Pros - Great picture fidelity Great sound fidelity Love the buttery smooth 144hz Meh - Response time is 5 seconds gtg but thats okay. Nothing to write home about but nothing thats subpar Port Hub Cons - Monitor Stand All in all, for gaming, this delivers. For its picture quality/fidelity, this thing delivers. Its bright. Its color accurate. Its beautiful. Its clean. I love it and i’m sure anyone who buys it will love it as well.
