Review is for BenQ EX2780Q 27 QHD 1440p IPS 144Hz Gaming Monitor. I love this monitor! Im so glad I requested this from my wife as my gift for Christmas. My original monitor of choice was the LG 27GL850 27 QHD Nano IPS 144Hz Gaming Monitor. But reading that this monitor is on backorder for months now. Ive waited for over a month still nothing. I decided to cancel and look for something else. Im glad I found this monitor. Via a YouTube video for best gaming monitor for 2019. I purchased this monitor in December 22nd 2019. This BenQ gaming monitor was everything I was looking for in a new upgraded panel. That perfect balance of the picture quality in color and speed for gaming. All the while this monitor hands down improved my game! I Have more screen to look at. And the sweet refresh rate! This monitor was definitely designed to game on. I Have also plugged in my PS4 via HDMI and configured it to HDR. Its a great buy and I highly recommend this! I have also done photo editing using Lightroom and wow do the colors look as they should. Only thing is this monitor is bright! That’s my con for this monitor. It’s not great in a dark room. You will notice that blacks aren’t truly black. More of a dark gray. I didnt know 350 nits is more than enough for my personal taste. But it performs fantastically in a well lit room. It also handles screen reflections/glare very well. Since the panel has a matte finish. Bonus. The remote makes life easier to tune settings vs the joy stick behind the monitor. Kick back and relax if you are watching. Sounds from the built in speakers are nice and definitely suits any office environment. Highly recommended.

First thing I noticed was the beautiful picture quality, and with the tweaking of some settings on the monitor itself, I had never actually seen a monitor this pretty before. After I had gone into Nvidia Control Panel and switched it from 60 to 144hz I was DUMBFOUNDED, I was completely enthralled from first glance how smooth it was, even just clicking and dragging around the NCP screen I was shocked. After loading up Rocket League and later Valorant, it was like I was playing a whole new game, with a whole new confidence. I have to admit, I was legitimately a better player switching from 60 to 144hz.

I like the monitor, dead pixel after 2 months of ownership is not cool though. Expected more from BenQ. The speakers are also mid as hell and peak way too early. Disappointed for sure

Been doing tons of research for a PS5 and work monitor. Hands down, the coolest monitor I have ever owned. I see complaints about the brightness, it is plenty bright to the human eye with HDR, not sure what that was all about. Even started watching movies on it. Horizon 2 looks stunning on this monitor, just in absolute aww, couldnt put it down this weekend. Speakers are plenty load and crisp, easy to plug in play with no headset. 1440p has not released on the PS5 yet, expected on the next update. Currently, upscales to 4K on the PS5, not getting 120 fps when upscaling (works in 1080). Update: PS5 now running 120 fps and 1440p. Totally worth it.

Issues Ive had: 1) BEWARE: When/if you turn the HDR functions on be prepared for an incredibly dull/dim screen. When you turn these features on the monitor uses that giant ambient light sensor and dulls the screen, which IMO defeats the purpose of buying an HDR monitor. ALSO when you turn these features on you cant disable the ambient light sensor what so ever. The monitor looks great when you turn all that off and just adjust it for your liking, but the fact that it gets hilariously dim when you have those features on makes me think the system is messed up or its defective. It was so dim that putting my iPhone on nearly its lowest brightness setting which is usually around 150 nits, seemed brighter than what this monitor was AUTOMATICALLY doing. -TLDR Dont buy this monitor for its HDR features..when you turn it on you cant control the picture brightness at all. 2) The monitor will go to sleep just as Windows signals it to when you have the option to turn off the display after x number of minutes. This monitor loses signal with the computer when it does that, and sometimes requires me to completely unplug the monitor from both the wall AND the computer and then allow it to power on again. Its rather annoying. Things I Like: 1) Speakers are good, not great. Theyre not iMac level or Dell AIO PC level, and probably not a good pair of $40-50 desktop speaker level - but theyre good. Theyre better than most monitor speakers Ive heard, but they dont get that loud. 2) When NOT using HDR it literally looks just like the Dell Ultrasharp and Acer 1440p monitors ive used. So nothing special - but good. 144hz is nice. 3) Love the construction of the monitor and the remote. The remote was a godsend when I figured out the above HDR issue.

Updated: 12/16/2019 From 4 stars to 2 stars Due to Color Uniformity Issue: After a week of the first review, I found it a little eye strainful to view contents with a white background. Upon some tests (as shown in the attached picture), I found the color from the top left corner grows yellowish down to the bottom right corner. The photo taken on my iPhone shows an honest degree of this color shift; this is quite noticeable in use. Disappointed as I thought Benq has a superior QC. Also, since BenQs support team kindly replied to my previous review in detail, I want to clarify some of the points I made as Cons for this monitor. 1. I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro, and a Walmart laptop by the brand Overpowered. In my opinion, even the Walmart laptop sounds clearer than the front speakers inside this monitor. However, Benqs has the advantage of a subwoofer(which, as I mentioned, is not really a big plus). I tried all the five pre-settings, none works for me so far, and now I use a personal EQ configuration by a software called Equalizer APO. I list the speakers as a con due to the high expectations I had while watching the youtubers recommendations. The speakers are definitely usable. 2. I did not try the overdrive/AMA settings in either Benq Ex2780q or the Pg279q from Asus, so indeed, I am not the expert on how the response time could be further enhanced. As for the color vibrancy, Benqs Ex2780q supposedly has a broader color gamut, and now I suspect the reason my experience differed might be due to the color uniformity defect in my unit. One thing I would like to add: for some monitor buyers, the new cool features coming out recently such as the HDRi/HDR, voice canceling headphone jacks, super-fast input lags/response times, or 200+hz refresh rates can all come in second or third places to some degrees of quality control. I have gone through the return of the Asus Pg279q (BLB) to Microcenter. What a heavy box to carry around. Unsure if I will return this monitor, as I am checking if I still have the mood or the decency to go through anther monitor return process one more time. --------------- Original Review Pros (from the most satisfying +to the least, but they are all pros): Compared to the backlight bleeding and IPS glowing issues on my previous Asus ROG PG279q, my unit of Benq EX2780q has visibly better black uniformity and almost no backlight bleed. This one came unexpected, but the monitor came with a solid USB Type-C port and a USB-c to USB-c cable. I tried with my MacBook 2017, plugged the cable in at both ends, worked smoothly. In the color settings, there is an M-book profile, and by eyeballing, the colors on the monitor and the MacBook looked similar. I use the monitor mostly for gaming and only play MOBA and RTS games. IPS,144hz, and 2k combined offer enjoyable experiences. Multiple color modes; I am mostly choosing from the preset profiles in the Low Blue Light mode, and they all look pleasing. The design. The monitor looks modern, stylish, and does not scream gaming. The remote was convenient with a lot of useful settings, and they did not cheap out on the joystick for the OSD. Things I havent tested: HDR & HDRi. Since my room is quite dark, I did not touch the HDRi modes, or the brightness levels would hurt my eyes. I do not play fast-paced FPS titles, so I did not toggle with the settings to enhance the response times. Cons: The audio system is the biggest letdown in my opinion, as this is one of the main selling points. The in-monitor speakers can get loud, but that is it. The subwoofer always sounds too heavy and occasionally distorted, and there is little separation between the speakers in the front. In comparison, the speakers on my Macbook Pro 13-inch are much more crisp and clear. Concerning color vibrancy and motion blur, based on my impressions, Asus Rog pg279q has the slight upper hand in those two aspects. Though it does not bother me much, the stand offers only limited degrees of tilting. In summary, anyone buying the monitor regarding the sound system as a bonus may be disappointed. But if you are looking for an all-around gaming monitor, depending on the price you get, it is one of the good options currently.

Love this monitor, sounds great, looks great. Only complaint was that I was having some issues with the color profiles on it for awhile where it wouldnt save my presets and it would change the color profile when I opened certain applications.

Got this to upgrade my gaming fun. Really like it and it measured up to all graphic expectations. The speakers are not as great as many reviews might have you think but any gamer spending this kinda money on a monitor is using headphones anyways. I’d buy again!
