We had a prior model of BenQ 1080p and decided to upgrade to 4k version. They look almost identical to each other. However, the packed features of 4k are absolutely phenomenal including HDR features. We paired it up with our Sony 7.2 surround system and the final effect is amazing from picture quality and sound effects. Setting it up was a breeze! We have about 16 screen that BenQ casts about 15 out and the sharpness is incredible! Details are evident at 4k. If you have a chance to get this projector - there will be NO REGRETS! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! A+

I have been an installer and enthusiast for over 20 years. My first install was a giant Barco RGB projector which put out a whopping 800 lumens. Projectors have come along way in every aspect. I chose this projector because I have a room that I can control all the lighting. I am able to make the room almost 100% black. This projector is absolutely stunning considering both the size and price point. It handles 4K material flawlessly. I must note that I installed the projector and used a fiber optic HDMI cable so I do not lose any signal along the path. I am shooting this onto a 100 fixed screen with a gain of 1.1, and it looks absolutely amazing. The lens shift is very helpful but note it is only vertical. There are multiple reviews out there with preferred settings to use to achieve maximum picture quality. So I will add mine. Lighting controlled room: Dynamic Iris: High Light Mode: Eco Picture: Cinema (If you set the 4K to Auto this will auto switch to H10 when 4K material is detected) Brilliant Color: On Wide Color Gamut: Off (I know I will get dinged for this, but my family enjoys a slightly brighter picture) Silence: Off We have viewed several movies from DVDs, to Streaming, to 4K Blu-Rays, and this projector will bring out the best in all of them. With that said, please keep in mind that a DVD at best is only 480p, which means it will look the worst on the projector, or any other 4K display. The only gaming I have done is on a regular PS4. I did not notice any lag, but I am not a competitive gamer. Finally, I must address lag from an audio perspective. The video is stunning and the visuals will blow you away when this is set up correctly and you are viewing good source material. There is inherent audio lag/delay when using a projection system depending how far away your projector is from your receiver. In my case, I purchased a 50 fiber optic HDMI cable so I could run it through the walls. Although fiber optic cables have more bandwidth to transport the entire unaltered signal, they are not any faster than a copper cable. Physics still apply here and the signal still has to travel the length of the cable. Not to mention the conversion to and from light at both ends. For my system, the magic number was 50ms of delay on the audio. This syncs up perfectly with the image. I would assume there is a calculation that can be found online for this, but I simply used a little logic and some trial and error. There is roughly 10ms delay for every 10 of cable. You may never notice it if you are running cable directly to a TV, but its there. When your image is 100+ inches, it is hard to ignore. Finally, I have viewed an installed several projectors that where 10 - 20 times more expensive than this projector. This is the happiest I have been with a small format projector, and I do not feel as though I am losing any performance. I know there are bigger and better projectors out there, but I challenge you to find one for less than double the cost. As with all reviews, please take this with a grain of salt as this is just my experience. I would recommend this projector to anyone who asks.

first off, yes this is my first projector. Before buying this product i did did quite a bit of research. For the money ($1400) this was to have been one of the good ones, or better ones. So when i finally got the product delivered, I was excited. I did did a test run on it and placed up high and checked out the video. I was using a 4K firestick. Keep in mind that I do have sufficient bandwidth to run 4K. So my initial thought was that i needed to do some major tweaks. So again did my research and modified also to the settings. Also on a side i do have to say I am not a fan of the menus on this. Every time you make a change, it goes out of the menu and then you have to go back in.. ridiculous... anyway.. So after completing the install, i rechecked everything again. Same thing and not clear for a 4K projector at all. So then i looked at the version and found that there was a newer version. So i updated the projector. Put the 4K Firestick on some 4K content (again) and still not looking clear. it shows only as 2400 and not the 3840 for 4k. I have seen videos of people using the firestick and getting great picture. But not on his one that i have, at least for me. So again.. I thought it was the Firestick. So I ended using one of the other ones i have and still the same quality. i have to say I am extremely disappointed and at this point would NOT recommend this product for the money that I spent.

Let me preface this by saying that I purchased this unit used with 28 hours on the lamp. First of all, I have no idea why the original owner gave up on this unit but...thank you. Ive been using a Mitsubishi HC4000 HD projector for the past few years, always thought the picture was pretty good...not!!! After hooking this unit up, calibrating to my liking, which by the way turned out to be very close to the original settings, so not much work here. I happened to purchase a used Epson 6020UB the same day. Ill be running the Epson in my bedroom and the Ben Q in my theater room. Hooked up both units in my theater room to start. Right off the bat, I noticed the black levels on the Epson were richer and deeper, the picture quality on both units were far and away a major improvement over the Mitsubishi. . Im using a basic pull-down 110 screen, first off, I want to know what those thousand dollar projection screens do that this $100 unit doesnt do. The picture is fantastic with both projectors. Would I spend and extra 2K for the slight improvement the Epson provides, probably not. I purchased both units used. I paid $1100 for the BenQ and wait for it...$600 for the Epson. The BenQ? If I didnt have the Epson for comparison the Ben Q meets all my needs, incredible picture, fantastic price. If price is no object the Epson is the overall better unit, my recommendation would be is to take the time and search for the Epson unit on the used marketplace. Dont get me wrong the BenQ is an amazing unit, its just the black levels on the Epson that gave it the advantage. Update: A couple of things I wanted to mention. I played with the picture adjustments and improved the black levels significantly, still not quite what the Epson is but very close. I also wanted to mention that I read a couple of reviews that stated the projector doesnt do well in rooms with ambient light. I have to disagree, my room has light bleeding in from three windows (yes, blinds are closed) and see almost no difference between watching in daytime or nighttime. I dont know what kind of light these folks have in their rooms but I havent seen a projector yet that works in a well-lit room. Close a blind or two, you may just be amazed. The only issue I have with the Epson is going to sound a little strange but, it may be too bright. I only watch in my bedroom at night so the room is totally dark, I seem to suffer from eye strain if I watch for too long (yes, Ive tried making adjustments). I need to find an acceptable lighting solution for the room that wont interfere with watching the tv. I find the light output of the BenQ at 2000 lumens is preferable to the Epsons at 2400 lumens. Im curious though, I almost purchased the BenQ TK850 due to its 3000-lumen rating, based on my experience with these two projectors, Im glad I decided on the HT3550, Im afraid my eyes would not appreciate the extra brightness of the TK850.

This is my fourth projector in 10yrs. Recently had the Epson 5040UB and decided to go with Benqs HT3550 DLP 4K (1080 × 4), over Epsons new 5050UB claimed 4K which actually only displays 2k (1080 x 2) (read Epsons fine print). The HT3550 is also about half the price. The HT3550 is so much sharper than my old 5040UB, its like seeing 4k for the first time. Due to having light colored walls in my light controlled theater, I really dont see a noticeable difference in the claimed contrast between the two. This project is not advertised as a bright room projector and will not be suitable for that environment. With todays projectors in the sub $3000 range, theres a trade off of either having deep rich true theater like colors, or a super bright picture. I prefer I true to form picture in a light controlled room.

Bought this for my son as a gift. It’s great. Clarity of projected picture is excellent the built in speaker was fabulous more than expected for audio sound. Didn’t have to hook our speaker system up. We have movie nights almost ever weekend with my sons friends over.

I have over 2400 hours on this unit and it’s been great. I only had issues once when using for 12 ish hours continually. I think it overheated and malfunctioned for an hour or so. The reason I am writing this review is because I just got an Xbox Series X and had the following problem: the main Xbox menu worked fine, but when I went to play Amy game or open any video streaming app, I got a black screen. Solution : press the HDR button on remote and turn from auto to off. This allows me to use the Xbox. Before making this change, changing the Xbox output resolution to 4k would cause all picture to go away ( even the main menu). With HDR turned off, I can change output to 4k and it works. The problem seems to be that I need to turn HDR off every time I use it now which is a pain. But it’s a fix.

I always wanted to upgrade to 4K projector from my previous 1080p EPSON projector(which I was very happy with). Did lot of research and finally shortlisted benq ht3550 and LG hu70la. I got the lg delivered first. Though it was on Black Friday sale and picture was good, I still did not feel it had the eye popping picture. I had the benq delivered next and immediately noticed the difference in image quality. Have been using it for 1 month now. I am very happy so far. Will definitely recommend.

Weve had this projector for about 4 months now and have to say - its fantastic. Im sure you could spend more money and get a better picture, more features, etc, but for the price, I think this is the best you can get. We have a room that is a light beige color and windows on the back wall - if we wanted to watch this during the day without shades on the windows, the image would be a little dim. That said, any other time, the image is incredibly sharp and the HDR makes everything look great. Weve got it at about 135 and it looks amazing - highly recommended!

Brilliant Black Levels, Very short throw,Dynamic Iris is a very important add on. Lacking on Brightness. Does not support Dolby Digital/DTS Audio 5.1 on Digital Toshlink out. Ideal for small spaces but must have a for very Dark Room to enjoy. Overall its a Good Home Cinema projector.
