> 3 dayUpgrading from my Epson 3010 that I bought new many years ago which has served me well. But as far as picture quality goes this BenQ ht3550 blows it away! Well worth the upgrade I have a feeling this is going to be very hard to beat for the money. I did however notice one issue where every time I shut the projector off the image flips from being bottom-mounted to top mount, however it is USB updatable so Im sure the issue will get resolved soon.

Greater than one weekThis is my first projector and after looking at all of the different options, I figured this was the one to go with. Its been said that this projector resolved lot of the first generation projector problems so not having to deal with some of those quirks is always a positive. In any case, this projector was MUCH better than I had expected. Im just projecting on a wall and it looked so good that Im debating to whether to even a buy screen for it or not! Eventually ill get the screen but its not by any means an urgent need for me. I honestly cant tell whether im watching a TV or projector. Of course the room does need to be dark (some light is still acceptable) but if you have good amount of ambient light then the picture will look washed out. Things i dont like: 1) Optical output is only outputting stereo sound. Not sure WTF BenQ was thinking here. I ended up buying a new receiver due to this. This was major let down for me and almost wanted to return this projector. But my old receiver was in need of update anyways so decided to fork the extra money for a new receiver. 2) Fan noise (when I had it on a table this was a bit loud but ever since mounting it on a wall, Ive noticed that its quieter than before). 3) Mounting - For some stupid reason, BenQ decided to not have a flat surface for the mount side so one of the screws is right next to the raised body. You can probably see it in the pics. In the end it still worked fine but for a company whos in this business for a while would have given some thought about this and made sure that the mounting side is completely flat. I used the Mount-It mount as it allowed for extension to drop the projector height. Things I LOVE: 1) Picture quality - Hands down just amazing out of the box and Ive only just watched 1080p content so far! Planning to connect 4k firestick this weekend to get an idea of how great this projector really is. 2) Has USB power port (2.5A at that) so that I can just power the firestick off that port. Works perfectly! I really havent played around with the different settings on the projector and frankly im afraid to just because its puts out damn good image right now. Make sure to measure the distance from the lens to the wall and also the height of the projector. I think BenQ has a good calculator for this but again difficult to use. However, the best way is to just use a ladder and put the projector on it to see how the image would look. I just zoomed out the image completely and made sure that I was satisfied with the minimum image size it projected. After that I just found a good mounting spot for the projector mount between 1 to 2 feet after that spot so that I can then zoom in to get image size I wanted on the wall. Id say go for it if youre debating to whether to get this as your first projector or not. I dont think Id ever consider buying large TVs if a projector in that setting could also work.

> 3 dayThis projector is simply fantastic. The image, design and feature set (zoom, lens shift, no light border etc) make this guy a winner. 4K films are simply incredible, blacks are inky black thanks to its dynamic iris, and HDR support truly makes for an excellent viewing experience. Great value for the money. The only thing I dont like about this exceptional projector is the optical output is only stereo. Not sure what Benq was thinking when this decision was made. Its seems silly to design such a fantastic machine, then limit it to Stereo output via its toslink port. I had to purchase a sound extractor device to strip the 5.1 sound from HDMI, and then pipe the sound from the device to my surround system. This was an inconvenience, and unnecessary expense, when Benq could have simply incorporated 5.1 Surround out of the toslink port. Wishful thinking I know, but hopefully a future firmware release will turn on surround sound from the optical port. Hopefully it is a firmware limitation....albeit quite unlikely. That is the only fault I have with the projector. I hope this review helps anyone contemplating this projector.

> 3 dayWell Ive had this for 2 or 3 weeks now. I been messing around with it on a 100 matte white 1.0 gain screen, 120 on a beige wall, 92 on .9 ALR screen. Image out of the box is amazing 4k HDR with disc or 4k scream from Apple TV 4k. Coming from 1080p projector definitely can go back. And having a 55 LG OLED in my living room spoiled watching movies, but lacks immersive size and my full Dolby Atmos setup. So this definitely the next step, with the BenQ HT3550 I still get my 1080p Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray and now 4k Blu-ray with HDR, while keep my DOLBY Atmos, DTSX, AURO 3D and now Imax Enhanced Audio setup. With a nice 1.13 throw allows me to go bigger screen and use and acoustic transparent screen now with out compromising my speaker placement now.

> 3 dayI was thinking for a while about what would happen if my one LG 4k 3D 65 TV finally went out. You cannot buy new 3D TVs anymore. And I have lots of 3D blurays. So, I finally decided to replace my Panasonic PT-AE2000U projector in dedicated theater room with this BenQ. I did not have high hopes for this projector, given the price. BTW, the Panasonic projector is still a great 1080p non-3D projector, and I highly recommend it if full HD is sufficient for you. I needed the 3D functionality, and the 4k was a bonus. Please note this is not native 4k, but 4k pixel shifting. But the picture still looks amazing! I also hesitated buying a projector that used DLP active shutter glasses, as the LG TV uses passive 3D glasses. I remember in their early days the active shutter had a lot of strobing. Seems like thats all been fixed now. And you get a lot more color coming through with the DLP active shutter glasses, which I did not realize. I bought a 4-pack of the Boblov glasses, which are fabulous, and very reasonably priced. You can find them here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08C9SWQKM?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details I did not give this a full 5 stars because its missing some legacy inputs and regular sound output jack, I would have liked to have, as well as the horizontal lens shift mentioned in a minute. Currently the Android apps, such as YouTube, only use the projector speakers. Which, to be fair, sound quite good. I had just already wired a sound output cable above the ceiling for the old projector. Perhaps there is some converter i can buy. And there is no horizontal lens shift, which would have made mounting this pj a WHOLE lot easier. The Panasonic had both vertical and horizontal lens shift, with the pj lense in the middle. This one only has vertical shift with the pj lense near to one end. Thankfully, the mount I have installed in the ceiling has super adjustable mounting arms, so I was able to shift the whole pj to the left on the ceiling mount. Adjusting everything took a few hours, though. My biggest concerns before receiving this projector was ability to use the already installed ceiling mount and possible issues with the video source, a Zappiti mini 4k HDR player. The player worked perfectly with this projector. So, overall I very highly recommend this projector, its super bright and has an awesome 4k picture. The 3d looks very good. Some complained about the included app dongle but I had no issues. Netflix is not available with this dongle (maybe a licensing issue?), but there are 2 HDMI ports, if you wish to use a Roku stick or similar instead.

> 3 dayDisclaimer: This is my first projector but I am very impressed overall. I was at one time planning on shelling out close to 3k for the Epsom 5050 (which does look amazing) but then I realized I had planned my home theater room without a huge throw distance from projector to screen (just under 9 feet) and I was hoping to use a 110 screen. My fears that the Epsom might not quite have the throw ratio I needed led me to look at this BenQ and Im glad I did. This BenQ isnt what they call a short throw projector but it does have a more generous throw ratio than most other regular home cinema projectors. Im pleased to say that the picture is stunning and the price saving enabled me to invest in a better amp and speakers for the room. I bought a Panasonic 4K Blu-ray player (UB 420) and it looks stunning in both 4k and 3D. It will make you want to stock up on 3D movies. I have a dark dedicated home theater in a basement and I can imagine this could struggle in a room with natural light. They also say this isnt a great projector for gaming but I have hooked up my PS4 to it and had a great experience. To be fair, Im not an online gamer where I suppose the input lag could be detrimental. However, for local gaming (1 player campaign/story or multiplayer split-screen) I dont notice any lag at all, just a big beautiful image. It has a very nice backlit remote too. I have had a few moments where I have had some glitches from the 4K Blu Ray signal and had to restart the projector but that has been my only negative. This issue might be unique to my individual unit though. Overall, I love it and I know you will too if you have a dark room, especially for the price. Update: I have since had several problems, first with my original unit and then with a replacement. Now Benq arent answering support calls or responding to emails. I know we are in the midst of a pandemic but this still isnt good enough for such a big company. Ive lost all faith in the brand. Stay away!

> 3 dayDon’t buy a BenQ projector. My HT3550 broke twice. The first time the fan broke, and I was sent a replacement a few weeks later. The second time it broke the bulb randomly exploded filling the inside with broken glass. Both experienced dead pixels. BenQ’s customer service is absolutely terrible. BenQ ruined my dream of having a home theater.

Greater than one weekAfter a 45 min installation replacing my previous Epson, I struggled to get the picture formatted correctly only to eventually find out on Reddit that even though I have 16 my screen was too small for this projector as it does not have a digital shrink feature. Check your distance and screen size before ordering. I thought I did my homework as I looked at every projector I could find on the $1500-$2k range. That being said, once I moved it closer and remounted on the ceiling it works really well. The picture is so much better than my old one and switching between Bright during the day and Cinema mode at night gives me a great experience and a great picture anytime. While this is not true 4k most people will not know the difference and unless youre side by side, most likely cant tell.
