Sharp high-def images, very pleasing to the eye.

Great projector with a sharp picture even for a lit room but save your money with the junk android tv. I wish I wouldn’t have purchased the android tv version and just bought a nice streaming device instead. It lags, buffers, crashes, and doesn’t supports Netflix even when trying to cast.

Even without our screen up yet it gives a very crisp, clear picture!

This does not work as a short throw replacement. Therefore, Benq has ignored thousands of its currently installed user base who wish to upgrade to 4k. How dumb is that? I am now shooting a 105 screen at a 6 distance. I would have to move this one back 3 at least. Go to projector central to figure it out yourselves.

Just a fantastic projector. Might get another for my guest room.

Allow me to start by saying that I had to return this projector. My theater room has a 1080 projector that does a good job but it bothered me that I got a much better picture on a low cost TV than I did in the theater room. After reading a lot of reviews and matching products with my budget I settled on the HT3550. I set it up and the right half of the picture had about 10 vertical lines; it was like watching a movie from a prison cell. I called BenQ and, much to my surprise, they answered the phone quickly and the support rep asked a few questions, had me try some things, and then finally concluded that it was them and not me. I played with it for a few hours and tried to ignore the obvious glitch. The colors and the sharpness were much better than my 8 year old Panasonic 1080 projector but still not as good as the 4K picture I get on my LG OLED television (no, I didnt expect it to be that good). But, I keep asking myself whether the picture improvement was worth the money. Im still undecided so I havent ordered a replacement. If I was setting up a new home theater, this would be a no-brainer. But as a replacement for a working 1080 projector? Ill get back to you.

Disclaimer: This is my first projector but I am very impressed overall. I was at one time planning on shelling out close to 3k for the Epsom 5050 (which does look amazing) but then I realized I had planned my home theater room without a huge throw distance from projector to screen (just under 9 feet) and I was hoping to use a 110 screen. My fears that the Epsom might not quite have the throw ratio I needed led me to look at this BenQ and Im glad I did. This BenQ isnt what they call a short throw projector but it does have a more generous throw ratio than most other regular home cinema projectors. Im pleased to say that the picture is stunning and the price saving enabled me to invest in a better amp and speakers for the room. I bought a Panasonic 4K Blu-ray player (UB 420) and it looks stunning in both 4k and 3D. It will make you want to stock up on 3D movies. I have a dark dedicated home theater in a basement and I can imagine this could struggle in a room with natural light. They also say this isnt a great projector for gaming but I have hooked up my PS4 to it and had a great experience. To be fair, Im not an online gamer where I suppose the input lag could be detrimental. However, for local gaming (1 player campaign/story or multiplayer split-screen) I dont notice any lag at all, just a big beautiful image. It has a very nice backlit remote too. I have had a few moments where I have had some glitches from the 4K Blu Ray signal and had to restart the projector but that has been my only negative. This issue might be unique to my individual unit though. Overall, I love it and I know you will too if you have a dark room, especially for the price. Update: I have since had several problems, first with my original unit and then with a replacement. Now Benq arent answering support calls or responding to emails. I know we are in the midst of a pandemic but this still isnt good enough for such a big company. Ive lost all faith in the brand. Stay away!

Great looking projector Im in the process of building a home theater. This will be the first one Ive put together and I agonized over which projector I was going to buy for a long time. Lamp or laser? Did I need 4k? What about HDR? Was LG a better choice or Optoma? Eventually, I read a very detailed review of the upcoming BenQ HT3550 that made it sound really great. It had the specs I wanted and it was right in my price range, so I made the leap and ordered one. It took about 3 weeks to arrive but I finally got it on Friday. I got it set up fired it up to make sure it works. Everything works great, setup was very easy, and it looks absolutely stunning. The picture is really extraordinary and the colors are fantastic. Its very quiet. And since I didnt have my surround sound system fully set up, I just used the internal speakers and those even sound pretty decent. All in all, this is a fantastic value for the money and I highly recommend it.

I will put a lot more effort into this review as time goes on, however, it takes time to collect the data. The clarity is crisp as all hell and is beautiful. This is also me talking about this while projecting on a non-treated room wall. It will only get better from here. The brightness is great if its dim-lit or dark, but with daylight shining in, youll still want a tv over this. I moved mine to the corner of the room and still use it when the sun is glaring in.

The fan was a major issue for me. Way to loud. Went with the HT5550 in the end and fan was extremely quiet. Better choice for sure
