Slides on easily, though you have to push pretty firmly to click it into place. Once clicked in, the fit is perfect - no overhang or mismatched surfaces. Fits 6 x AA Eneloops and the UV-5RA works fine for Rx and Tx. The center battery contact seems anchored solidly, with little risk of shorting against the contacts to the radio. But adding some glue or plastic insulation as a preventive seems like a low risk, low effort hedge against any problems.

Exactly what it says; takes the place of the battery, and lets you plug into the 12v outlet. Great for in-car radio use, especially paired with a hand mic and external antenna. Lets me run APRS through my uv5r (with an external device) all I want on the move without worrying about the battery running out.

With so many fakes out there, it’s nice to have a reliable source of true extra capacity batteries for the UV5R. This one is the real deal. My biggest complaints are the price, it costs almost as much as the radio itself. And, it’s only available in black. All of my UV5R radios are camo. But there are no legit 3800 mAh batteries available in camo. So now I have 3 camo UV5R radios with black extended capacity batteries. But I’m so happy to finally have the extra battery capacity that I no longer care about the color mismatch.

As others have reported, the battery pack would not snap into place on BTECH UV-5X3 (same as the UV-5R). I had to carefully file the plastic in a few places to make it fit on the radio. Also as others have reported, I found that the contacts inside the battery pack are poorly designed with very minimal spacing between the positive and negative contacts, resulting in the possibility of the contacts shorting together. Besides that problem, the metal battery contacts are made from very thin metal with very little spring to them, and are poorly supported by the plastic body of the case resulting in intermittent contact between the battery terminals and the contacts in the case. I also found that some makes of NIMH battery do not have long enough positive battery contacts to extend far enough into the plastic of the battery case to make contact with the metal contacts of the case, so only certain brands of battery make contact in the case. Ive spent about 4 hours trying to make this thing work reliably. Great idea - bad execution. I cant recommend buying this battery holder. With all the problems this thing has, I am surprised that BTECH sells it as it is.

This is a good product. In the event of a loss of electrical power for an extended time it is very good to be able to power up the Baofeng UV-5R Handi Talkie with alkaline AA batteries which are available everywhere. I had a problem with all (3) that I ordered. The problem was easily corrected. If you open the battery holder up and look down at the half that actually has the battery contacts where the batteries fit, the row on the right side of the holder has a place for two batteries. The bottom battery fits with the negative side at the bottom of the tray. There is a metal contact pin that was flat on all (3) battery holders and would not make contact with the negative side of the battery. The fix is to take a small flat blade control screwdriver and get behind the contact pin and gently pry it away from the metal band that it is attached to. This way it makes contact with the battery.

First thing I did when I got this radio was run it down halfway through the battery, and then I fully charged it. It made it just around the 62 hour mark on standby without ever being turned off, with about 2 hours of solid listening from nearby repeaters and maybe 30-40 minutes listening to FM during the middle of those conversations. The math adds up about perfectly (I guessed around 60-65 hours of life based off 65mah/hour spec on standby), dont have to open it up to be sure youre being scammed. It is a genuine and genuinely good battery. Will be buying a second one soon as both backup and for my second radio if needed.

Used it on a Wide area FOX transmitter. Ran at 2.5W (Low setting) and transmitted for 30 secs of every minute for 4+ hours. Still running strong after that. Cant complain...
