Greater than one weekGreat iron, but awful UI. The two button UI is slow and clumsy. Each of the two buttons doubles as a press-and-hold macro. If you press-and-hold the wrong button, you will put the UI into iron calibration mode and you can screw up the irons calibration. I have made this mistake already.

> 3 dayIm rather new to soldering. This is my first temp control soldering iron. I use this primarily for soldering Arduino circuitry, model trains, and RC cars. Had it one month. Love it so far. Sturdy stand, easy to grip, heats quickly, looks cool, small footprint. As others have mentioned, the controls are a bit counter intuitive, but if you read the instructions (a few pages long) it is not difficult to program. I like that it has two cleaning options (sponge and other).

> 3 dayThis soldering station has been wonderfull. Some peope complain about the electronic setting of the temp. - yes it is slower to set but I get used to it and dont have to set the temp often.

> 3 dayHakko products are definitely the best soldering irons and accessories Ive used. This is quality made stuff, folks. If you buy other knock-off products, youre sure to be returning it soon.

> 3 dayOne of the best hobby solder stations you can buy at a great price. The CHP170 cutter is excellent quality and very precise. I thought itd be a cheap throwaway tool but it has replaced my mini side cutters I used to reach for. The controls are not intuitive but theres a few good YouTube videos explaining the functions and definitely read the instructions. Heat up time is very fast and consistently holds the temp. I calibrated it with my Meterman DMM temp probe. I bought this to replace an aging 40w pencil style soldering iron and I cant believe I didnt get one sooner.

> 3 dayMy little orange Weller that I got at Home Depot gave out unexpectedly (WTH?) so I replaced it with the Hakko digital FX888D. Just turning on the switch and watching the iron heat up the very first time sold me. It took about 90? seconds to heat up to 750 deg F. After a few hours the transformer unit gets a little warm, but not hot. However, the handle always remains cool and comfortable. The stand is diecast metal instead of plastic. I havent used any of the pre-programmed temperature settings yet but Im sure Ill be raving about them too when I do. The variety of tips that are available just beats the stuffing out of my old Weller. If I had known how superbly nice this unit was, I would have kicked my Weller to the curb a long time ago, even before it died. I will forever scoff at inferior soldering irons now. Just click Add to Cart and buy one now, you can thank me later.

> 3 dayI think anyone who enjoys soldering and certainly anyone who, for whatever reason, needs to but hates doing it, like myself, will find this an invaluable investment that is worth every cent and probably even at twice the price. A skill that has eluded me and always a source of frustration, which I would attempt only as a last resort. Recently I developed an interest in quadcopters, a hobby that involves not only a great deal of soldering, but requires a level of precision I had never considered nor desired attaining. However, the satisfaction the hobby brings me has driven me to aquire six different soldering irons / stations and many types of solder in my effort to become efficient. Many hours of practice and 2 ruined flight control boards had finally allowed me to overcome the dread associated with the skill. Still not satisfied with the equipment I was using, I researched what the best copter builders were using and quickly found this to be the overall favorite. The only regret I have regarding the purchase of this unit, is that I didnt do my homework sooner because the difference is night and day. I can only imagine the time and frustration I might have saved by buying this early on. Overnight I went from viewing soldering as an accepted means to an end, to actually looking forward to doing it and being proud of the results. Having this unit and a little practice, along with the basic fundamentals of soldering is all that one needs to avoid much aggravation.

20-11-2024Ive used quite a few different soldering irons and stations and I have to say this one for the price wins hands down. My TS-100 is awesome in some respects, but I would take this over it any day Im not out and about.

Greater than one weekGreat iron. Its genuine Hakko so no worries there. If your not willing to spend the $240ish to get a 9 series Hakko then this is the next best thing. Dont waste your time with the off brand irons. This is a buy quality, buy once situation. Many people will refer to this as old tech or a beginners station. But the truth is this iron will do 90% of what the more expensive irons will do. If you are not a professional repair tech, or dont have money to burn, dont waste what you do have on that extra 10% because the fact is you will probably never need it. Buy genuine tips and they will last for most of your hobby days with this iron. It is built well and backed by a professional company. Heat up time to full temp is around 20 seconds. It doesnt have a sleep feature but I just kill the power and switch it back on as Im getting ready. I dont do professional repairs anymore so I bought this to replace a Hakko FM-203 that I lost in a divorce. I have no regrets for buying this instead of just replacing the same station.
