I was so excited to finally try a CaramDArch brand product, I could never afford them before. I am so disappointed with them. I have used watercolor crayons before of a cheaper price point, so I had high hopes for this. 6 of them broke while using them for the first time. I also thought some of the colors were too close to each other. The yellows and greens were too similar. I would not recommend them. Go with a cheaper option.

I love this set of neocolor 2 crayons. They arrived with a bonus of four fluorescent neocolor 1s which was a super treat. Just an observation: the packaging does not tell you exactly which colors you will be receiving in the set, and there were differently designed labels on the crayons - three or four different iterations of the labels (redesigns). The product is authentic, and I didnt mind the different labels from various releases. But what I gather from this is that the colors that are featured in the 40 set can vary depending on what they have in stock at the factory. Not a big deal to me, no colors are repeated, and everything is the authentic product that I love-- but its just a random fact of note.

Im not a pro-artist at all so my perspective is that of a hobbyist and these crayons are AMAZING FUN! They blend beautifully and are such a delight to work with as you can either draw directly on the paper then wet-brush or brush directly on the crayon to pick up just the right amount of color you need. I choked a little bit at the expense of getting them but Im so glad I did. Additional colors can be bought separately which Ive done. Another thing, I bought these almost 3 years ago. My drawing benders have an ebb & flow so these sat in an open container on a shelf for a really long time and I was slightly worried they would go bad in some way but nope... picked them up to color the other day and were just as beautiful and fun to work with as the day I got them.

I bought these for plein air painting & sketching. They worked a treat on a recent San Francisco trip. They are very nicely water soluble, melting and spreading easily without the need to soak the paper. I was a bit concerned about their thinness, but they are quite sturdy so far. If I get more detailed then sketching, I will need more colors than the 15, Im thinking. A variety of blues, greens, and browns would be a welcome addition on my next trip to Dick Blicks open stock bins.

I am not an artist, but bought these for a friend who is. We used them for a project with a group of non-artists to make bookmarks and everyone wanted to buy a set. Very fun to use and the colors were beautiful on our black background. Now I too want a set of my own.
