> 3 dayThis movie is okay for background noise while you bake sugar cookies and decorate for Christmas. The Kranks street was beautiful at the end when it was snowing and all the houses were properly lit and decorated (which is the theme of the movie.) Very lightweight and totally predictable from the beginning. Mr. Krank is a type of modern day Scrooge or Grinch who transforms from old curmudgeon to compassionate and thoughtful neighbor, but to me there was no real impetus for him to do so. Everyone gathered round with happy holiday songs, as is typical of many Christmas tales, and each person put aside their own prejudices to make Christmas happen. But people dont change that easily. I had the feeling he was back at work griping at his secretaries the next day. The magic of Christmas. I paid $1.99 to rent it, but it was hardly worth the money. I say to krank up some nice Christmas music instead, if you want to set the mood.

> 3 dayOveracting on Jamie Curtis part as a mother of grown daughter away from home. Tim Allen plays the father & wants to go forego Xmas & go to the Caribbean since their daughter isnt coming home for the holidays.

Greater than one weekSaw Christmas With The Kranks when it first hit the theaters. It struck me as kind of dumb, somewhat obnoxious, and highly improbable. My wife and her sister laughed through the enitre movie. My brother-in-law and I looked at each other and shrugged. We didnt get it. I looked around the theater, and found most of those laughing - were women. Their dates were looking as bewildered as us. It was as if the movie was intended as an in-joke for women. A year later, Christmas With The Kranks came out on DVD. I picked up a copy for my wife, and as youd expect, she talked me into watching it with her. I found myself almost liking it. The next evening, with the house to myself - I decided to play it again. I dont even know why. But, it all began to make sense. I could see what my wife, her sister, and all the women in the theater found so funny. It isnt the over-the-top, slapstick of Tim Allen (who I am a fan of). Its the subtle humor of the more true-to-life Jamie Lee Curtis. Shes the perfect foil for Tim Allen. But more than that - shes the unsung STAR of this Christmas comedy. Once I understood that - the movie became very funny for me. Now, its a staple of our Christmas classics viewing.

> 3 dayAn alternative to mushy holiday movies and it still captures the important elements of the holiday- family, friends, faith, helping, giving and rejoicing. It does all this with laughter.
