Crucial P5 2TB 3D NAND NVMe Internal Gaming SSD, up to 3400MB/s - CT2000P5SSD8

The P5 is my absolute favorite SSD when you compare price to the speeds you receive. It’s one of the fastest with read and write speeds and it doesnt break the bank. That’s a win win in my book, I currently own 3 of these in assorted amounts.

I have only had the issue of Windows Explorer restarting and not being able to use mouse pad or keyboard shortcut to shut down laptop twice. Ever since the second time it happened I have not had the problem again. I am studying to be an IT Technician in College and have a bit of technical experience with laptops and desktops over the years. I would recommend this to others. If you are following the same type of path I am then it will be easy for you to install as well. Just make sure you use Acronis software to clone your hard drive after you install it in a laptop or desktop. You can use a USB to connect you old hard drive to clone it. I would also like to mention dont use easeuse software because it will damage your new hard drive.

Installed in a few years old gaming laptop. Although manufacturer limited hardware to 512GB, this was listed as compatible by Crucial with my laptop and it was. Very fast load times of everything, transfers on and off it also very fast. Future proof as Windows 10 and 11 getting close to 100GB install size (add to that updates). Will upgrade to Windows 11 when Windows 10 support ends in 2025. Ubuntu/Linux not quite there yet but close.

I purchased this SSD to put in a portable M.2 case so I could have some additional portable storage. I dont get full speeds b/c of the case I purchased but they are still more than acceptable (1500 MB read/write). Once the prices come down for USB4/Thunderbolt cases I will upgrade and increase the rest of the speed of this drive. I havent had any issues with the drive at all. I chose this drive b/c I have had a great experience with Crucial drives in the past.

Honestly, after a couple of months and a couple of Linux kernel upgrades, this particular NVME SSD does not seem to work with Linux OSes. I was using it in the Framework laptop running Ubuntu 21.10, latest kernel 15.16 and but my OS did not wake up after sleep. This is the only key issue I had with this. For some reason, if your linux OS goes to sleep, it will have trouble waking up as it will not detect the SSD anymore requiring a hard reboot. This is also a well-reported issue within Framework, but it might be possible it affects other brands as well - as of the time of this writing there are no firmware updates on crucials website either. I have had to resort to the WD SN series and that fixed the sleep issue. Outside of this setback, your mileage may be better. Currently putting this in my PC Windows gaming desktop as extra storage instead. Overall good but not perfect for my situation.

I installed this SSD in my Lenovo A40 all-in-one pc and it improved the speed tremendously. I also added 4 gb of memory for a total of 8gb. In now boots in less than 10 seconds!! In my ratings for Tech Support & Gaming, I gave it a 3, because I dont do gaming and I didnt need tech support, and there was no opportunity to choose Not Applicable, so those can be ignored.

The physical installation of the SSD 1TB was very straightforward enough. However the cloning of the drive and installation as the main drive in a laptop with only 1 available PCIe slot was not as clearly to do. Unlike the many other possible computer configurations that are clearly outlined with the numerous easy to follow videos. My HP 15-ef1003ds laptop required 1 part more reading, 2 parts more of watching videos and 7 parts more guess work, in order to get it running as my primary drive. But in the end it was well worth the extra effort because with the included software that was free I now have faster laptop with a larger capacity drive all at a very reasonable price. And thanks to crucials compatibility program I didnt waste 5 days to only realize that it wasnt going to work for me and instead in under 2 hours I now have what I wanted. You can be sure that when I am ready to upgrade the memory from its current 8gb to its max of 32gb I will be buying crucials 32gb kit without a second of hesitation.
