The red latching mechanism that locks it to the filter is cheap and easy to break. It works fine, but be careful because once its bent it never straightens out and each time you lock it itll bend out of position and youll think youre going to snap it off. Shipping was good and no defects.

Ive had my Fluvial 306 filter for 2 1/2 years, and it provides more than adequate filtration for my 46 gallon cichlid tank. I do water changes every two weeks or so, and I clean the filter every other time. The AquaStop valve provides a convenient way to disconnect the filter for servicing without disturbing the intake and output lines. However, the red latching lever is made of flimsy plastic, and within a few weeks of use it became difficult to close. Finally, after wrestling it around and trying to seat the latch, it broke. Although its still technically under warranty, by the time i process the claim, my tank will have been without filtration long enough to kill the fish. This replacement part, even if ordered overnight on Amazon, would still have left me with a stagnant tank for a day or two -- too long, in my opinion. So I went over to my local Pets Mart, where Id purchased the filter, only to discover that they dont carry replacement parts. So I had to buy an entire new filter. The valve was easily replaced by unscrewing the red collars and pulling the hoses free and reconnecting the new valve. (Youll have to disconnect the intake hose near the top and lower your water level below the outflow so that water doesnt drain out when you disconnect the valve -- just catch the water from the hoses in a bucket). ts all working fine now, but, as many others have noted, the parts are pretty flimsy, and replacement can be pricy if you dont have a spare on hand.

I agree with previous writers. I have a Fluval 206 and a 406 and the red lever on this part is too weak. It breaks easily. It needs to be strengthened and perhaps made from a more rugged material. An unrelated complaint it that the tubing to and from the filter clogs much too easily. It needs to be larger in diameter.

Leaks in under three months I am dissatisfied with this purchase
