> 3 dayI love this thing. I can finally send messages from anywhere. It lets me set waypoints so that if I get confused I can see which way to head back. The maps arent fabulous, but it supplements my paper maps, which I should carry anyway. I can create routes and navigate to the trailhead. Really gives me some peace of mind when Im hiking!

06-06-2025I bought this one thinking Id prefer the map display...I think I should have gone with the mini. Im not finding it to be easy to use or even wanting to use it as anything other than an SOS beacon.

> 3 dayUsed the Garmin Inreach in a remote location in Ontario, Canada. Worked near perfect for staying in touch with loved ones in the States. Easily paired with my smartphone for easier use, weather forecasts and family being able to track my trip were added bonuses. Plans are reasonably priced and seasonal use friendly. Which was main reason I ditched the satellite phone.

> 3 dayThe inReach Explorer works okay. Decent SOS system with a small screen for emergency use really. I wasn’t happy enough to keep it. I also deducted a star for subscription cancellation difficulty. After returning the device and canceling service I was billed another month. Happened twice. Check your account if you cancel as the service will magically begin billing you.

> 3 dayOutstanding product. GPS is outstanding, satellite texting brings a level of safety and security to the backcountry with the added bonus of keeping my family informed. I love I can just text chat with my wife, even on top of a mountain with no cell service. Works best with my iPhone X, as the Earthmate app allows me to download much more detailed maps. I did test this side by side with my Garmin Oregon 600 on several trips and the GPS works exactly the same. Just wish I could use my Garmin purchased maps on this product. Battery life is better than my Oregon, I have it on 1 min recording, 10 min update and at the end of the day (8 hours hiking) the battery was at 70%. I highly recommend this product.
