> 3 dayGot his for my daughter to take on her 700 mile canoe trip on the Northern Forest Canoe Trail. We want her to be able to call help in an emergency, and we love tracking her progress on the website. She did a trip in the Boundary Waters last fall. One of her companions had one and it worked well and provided a margin of safety. I think it is indispensable for someone who is going to be out of cell phone range in the wilderness. If you dont need the topo and navigation you can save a lot by getting the SE model.

> 3 dayGreat acquisition for the people that are using to go in hikes or camping. A lot of useful features, except the fact that it’s sending updates on your location, send messages, you can also mark your route and follow it when going back, means you can use the map for yourself and not for sharing only.

> 3 daySmall screen- useless for navigation, very slow to connect, very little practical use- its a waste of money

> 3 dayI use the Garmin Explorer+ primarily for the tracking and communication capabilities. It gives my wife much greater peace of mind when I am out backpacking deep in the backcountry of the Cascade or Olympic Mountains here in Washington state. I use other tools for my primary navigation but it is nice to have the redundancy of the onboard maps on the device.
