Works good, wife at home loves it. Navigation and maps do lack alot.

The most advanced gps made. Besides the mapping, text and emergency functions make this unit the best.

First off people, a huge nod to customer service at Garmin/Delorme. I bought my first InReach, traveled to South America, and promptly had it stolen. I had to scramble to cancel my service, which cost me about $125 to cancel. I didnt want to have the thief causing me excess usage charges, plus, he shouldnt get to benefit from my toy. When I returned from a grueling solo mountain bid on Aconcagua, after recovery, I wrote Garmin and explained my situation. I asked them if they would credit my account, for my inconvenience. They did just that. I bought another unit, and my activation fee and first month were credited to me. What exceptional service! They had no obligation to do that, but that is how you keep a loyal customer, and that is how you go above and beyond.

This worked exactly as it was supposed to, but we returned it and purchased a satellite phone. We purchased this as an backup for an catastrophic emergency for wilderness canoe trips. However, the texting on this device would have been impossible under stressful circumstances. You have to use the arrow keys and the ok button in order to choose each letter while texting and the screen would require old eyes to use glasses. The price was more attractive than the sat phone, but being able to actually speak with a person in an emergency is worth the extra $$$. This device does have a number of other features, but its purpose for us was intended only for the emergency situation.

The service is faulty or the data was deliberately choked. In reach choked the data and instead of transmitting my location every 2 minutes it went to every 4 hours. You put my life at risk.

Purchased this last summer for our fall trip out west where we spent 5 weeks on the road in our RV. We hiked a ton in the NPs in Utah, Nevada and Arizona and this provided a great peace of mind while being out on the trail. The maps are accurate (if not a little small for my old eyes ;-) But the real purpose of this thing is to save your bacon if god forbid things go wrong and you need a rescue. I had satellite coverage everyplace that we went. It is also nice to know exactly how far you have hiked in a given day, so just make sure you turn the dang thing on once you get out of the car!
