> 3 dayI’ve used Garmin products for years and have been very happy with them but the Garmin Instinct leaves me a little disappointed. I ride both mountain and road bikes, swim and hike/walk. For cycling I bought the Instinct primarily for heart rate info- wanting to ditch the traditional chest strap HR monitor. The Instict fails miserably in this dept. While reviews and the company product description state the optical heart rate monitor is primarily for long term monitoring during day/night activity you would think it would try and work during HIIT training. It doesn’t... or should I write: mine doesn’t. Checking the watch against my chest monitor shows massive discrepancies making the optical watch system useless. It does work well on dog walks though.

> 3 dayMy contenders for a new time piece were an Apple watch, a garmin, and a G shock. After months of review after review on youtube, reddit, etc., I landed on the solar instinct. It had more connectivity for activity tracking than the G shock, but less than the apple watch. It had more battery life than the apple but less than the Gshock (depending on the model). It did not require a phone or data connection to function. Seemed like a winner.

> 3 dayLove the GPS features, the app, the auto detect for stairs, and my daily walks. I like the simple watch face and the large ##s I dont need my glasses to read most functions. The solar rechargeable feature is nice.

> 3 dayBought November 2021. This is the most comfortable and useful watch I have ever had. Tried others that were more of a table on my wrist. They didn’t have this battery life or truly useful features. I have checked the GPS coordinates from the watch against multiple maps and it is spot on every time. The wrist band has some stretch to it, not that it moves around, it is just very comfortable. Being able to back track a route while out mountain biking is amazing.

> 3 dayFirst off, this thing just went on sale for 50% of what I paid only a few months ago- that’s frustrating. That said, I do like the watch. I’m a g shock guy, this is an easy transition. Use primarily for triathlon training and sleep/BP tracking. I wish there were better tri features, and building pool workouts is kind of confusing. So far I like it for what it is.

> 3 dayI have worn G Shocks for going on 20 years. Most recently of 4 years the solar Rangeman. I still say that is the end of days,,, nothing on your worst day will hurt watch there is. However I must admit thus far I’m am impressed with this solar instinct. I hated how every time I put weight on my wrist my rangeman button for alt, compass, barom, would go beep beep beep, that is gone! I feel like I’m cheating on my g shock but all the features this thing has,, dammm ,,, 30 minutes on YouTube and I have all the navigating this watches abilities down.. half the guys on my Dept are running these or g shocks,,, I am hard to convince of proven reliability,, but this thing has me thinking maybe I was wrong!!! It’s not to complicated if your not willing to learn and accept maybe there are better things out there! Let’s see if it holds up like my tries and true. Will report back later

> 3 dayI had high hopes. The battery life is excellent and if youre using it in the city its great. But, once you get into the mountains, its wildly inaccurate. I have a favorite trail that I often take when I need a quick hike. Its 3 miles long I know this because Ive literally hikes this trail 100s of times, my instinct solar clocked it anywhere from 3.35, 3.79 and 4.79 miles, the last 3 times, exact same hike. My original instinct clocked it at 3.06 nearly every time +/-Today I took a hike I know to be just under 5 miles long, I wore my original instinct and my instinct solar to compare, they registered 4.85 and 5.79 miles respectively.?? Yes I fiddled with the satellite settings and accuracy settings and nothing worked. Very disappointed.

> 3 dayI WANTED TO LIKE THIS DEVICE. However, like most Garmin products the documentation is abysmal as is the performance. I bought this product to use in the back country and it is unreliable ... pairs poorly and who needs that in the BACKCOUNTRY WHERE THERE IS NO INTERNET CONNECTION FOR YOUTUBE or A CHAT WITH A REP!
