I had the 1000 and gave it to my son-in-law. While the functionality of the 1000 Plus is much the same the bigger screen is much easier to read and that alone made the upgrade worthwhile for me.

Ive been using Garmin Edge computers for about 6 years. I owned the Edge 1000, Edge 1030, and now the Edge 1030 Plus. Ive logged hundreds of rides on those devices, and Ive used them with assorted speed sensors, cadence sensors, heart rate sensors, lights, cameras, electronic shifters, and cell phones. Ive also used them with Garmin Connect, Strava, Ride With GPS, and assorted other websites. After all that, here is my final opinion:

This is for anyone that is even halfway into cycling. If you are collecting your cycling data, or training with your bike, you need one!

The Garmin 1040 Solar software is HORRIBLE - full of bugs. The sync logo frequently goes into endless cycling, several of the menus lead to repetitive cycles asking the same info over and over. Overall this EXPENSIVE computer isnt worth the money. Get something else!

If you have used other Edge products you will have no problem setting up and using the 1030 plus.

Very user friendly and accurate. I also like their functionality on GPS bike route direction.
