> 3 dayI am using this to upgrade the fire & security panel in my new home. I used it to replace a similar Honeywell/Ademco Vista 20P that was more than 20 years old. These things last a long time, which is exactly what I want from a home fire/security system. The panel I received did come with resistors for both normal configurations and zone doubling configurations. It also included the Honeywell power adapter, panel lock, and programming manual. My panel also came with the modern 10.23 firmware. If your unit does not come with all these things, then the seller you bought from is likely selling a modified bundle in attempts to increase their revenue at your expense. Beware. If you never worked with one of these panels, then read on... Yes, you will need a battery, sensors, and at least one alphanumeric keypad plus some wire. Exactly which parts you buy depends on your needs, so you might want to do some research first. I added an Envisalink Internet communicator to it, which I recommend. It supports many other communication options (dialup service, pagers, cellular radios, etc). It has a ton of impressive expansion capabilities. Out of the box it supports up to 15 wired zones, but it is easy to add dozens of more zones with either wireless sensors or wired expansion boxes.

> 3 dayI got this to replace an old 1980s Radio Shack security system in our new home. Talk about a huge upgrade! Pairing this with an RF enabled keypad such as the 6162 RF makes it easy to add additional RF security sensors, without the hassle of running wires through existing construction. The gauge of the sheet metal is a little on the flimsy side, but I suppose its thick enough. The door pivots on metal tabs in slots, a real hinge would have been nice. The firmware version I got was the newer 9.18, which seems to have the new VIP menu driven programming interface that work with the 6162. As an embedded engineer, it was still a bit tedious to figure out how to program it. Im sure an alarm technician could navigate the menus much faster than I. Still learning the conceptual details of zones, modes, partitions, etc. But that gives me assurances that it will be very configurable for future plans. As others have said, these products are meant for installation by professionals bearing expensive monitoring contracts. The panel came with a good wiring diagram, but the programming guide assumes a little prior knowledge specific to Ademco control panels. It is not written for the DIYer, but you can figure it out. It seems from searching the Internet that there are additional programming features and options not described in the included manual. I intend to keep the system hooked up to a little chime siren for a few months while we ensure we dont have false alarms. Next phase will be adding networked control with AD2USB or Envisalink 3. Overall a great value for the price.

07-06-2025Upgraded a lame Vista 10SE, to add bi-directional communications capacity. Shipped with the latest firmware, and my friend who does alarm installs for a living said that it was identical to the parts on his truck.

> 3 dayI purchased a house with an old security system (2007 era, big name company, you can probably guess which one) installed. I wanted a self monitoring option, and didnt want to purchase new sensors. With almost no security system experience I was able to use the manual that comes with this to replace the existing control panel. Saved me hundreds in installation costs for a new system and it works perfectly with my existing sensors. I bought the Honeywell 6160 keypad to program it and an Ademco Wave2 siren for noise. Excellent value and user friendly if you have the patience to read the manual carefully.
