Used this on my hand crafted cutting board made of multiple kinds of wood. Ive used this oil on an actual butchers block as well, and both times Ive gotten great results. There is no scent, but I gave it 5 stars for smell because I dont want my cutting board to smell like anything, that would definitely ruin my dinner!

My girlfriend got me a really nice cutting board for Christmas to replace my old cheap-o board that was starting to warp. The care instructions noted that the board should be oiled on a regular basis after washing. I put it off for a while so the board was looking pretty rough. I applied some of the board oil and let it soak in an wow! It looks like its new again. Great stuff.

I put on an unfinished wood top of a kitchen island that looks like butcher block as other purchasers suggested. It’s food grade so that’s the primary consideration for me. It does have an odor and is fairly greasy feeling so I’m throwing the cloths away I used to apply it rather than try to clean them

You wont go wrong with this oil. Its perfect for new wood and old neglected wood. My wife and I used this on an 80 year old butcher block we bought at a garage sale. (We dated the butcher block by looking at the local history and when the deli that was stamped on the side of the block went out of business) The butcher block was well used and in good shape but the wood was dry. We coated the entire piece including the bottom and the legs and we used several bottles. The wook absorbed this oil quickly and it never left an oily or slimy feeling behind. It also helped to give the wood a healthy look to the oxidation. It also smoothed out the top as the grain swelled to fill the cuts in the top and the end grain expanded slightly. We use the butcher block as an end table now and we have never had an issue with water rings from glasses and we have no worry about what we set on top of the block. This oil really helps protect the wood as well as restoring the natural moisture. Pros: It helps preserve the wood and expand the grains for a smoother feel Its easily absorbed into the wood. It doesnt have a foul smell or impart any taste to foods Cons: The wood will really absorb this oil You may need a lot of it for new and untreated wood or neglected wood.

I recently bought a high-end acacia wood carving board, and I discovered upon receipt that it hadnt been seasoned. The company recommended a food-grade mineral oil or butcher block oil. After some research, I settled on this Howard Products oil. Its perfect for what I wanted. To season before first use, I applied three coats, letting each dry 20 minutes and wiping off excess in between. The wood soaked it up so, really, I didnt have any appreciable excess. Instantly, the wood had additional depth and beauty. Now, when I use the board, I wash, dry, then apply a single coat of oil to preserve and protect the wood until its next use. This oil doesnt go rancid the way a vegetable oil would. I highly recommend this oil, although I admit I have nothing to compare it all. All I know is that it works beautifully. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

Find this cheaper locally. Dont pay for anything special when its standard mineral oil.

I have used both the Howard Butcher Block CONDITIONER and the OIL. It is not clear how these products differ, so Ill give my experience. I have a large butcher block that I use as a kitchen island. I do not cut directly on the butcher block, but I routinely do all my prep on it. I originally used the Butcher Block CONDITIONER (with the bees wax). It worked well, but I found that it left a residue (it felt fuzzy) and that it would get stains and water spots (both from food and containers). I was sanding and re-apply the CONDITIONER every 6 months. I would typically put on 3-4 coats of the CONDITIONER after sanding. I tried the OIL to see if it would work better. And it did! Its protects the wood better and is much easier to apply. I dont get any more stains or water spots, there is no residue, and it looks great. I think the OIL seeps better into wood. With both the CONDITIONER and the OIL, I would apply then wait 20 minutes to wipe up any excess. With the OIL, there is very little excess. With the CONDITIONER, there was a lot of excess. Im very glad I switched to the OIL and havent had any issues.

Product was perfect for our bamboo cutting board and our bamboo bathroom stool. The cutting board is actually used for setting hot pots on and we had it for over 10 years. (occasionally, someone does use it for its intended purpose). The bamboo bathroom stool has been in our shower for over 2 years.. We regularly apply the oil on it and it looks like brand new. We usually apply and allow to soak in and dry before using in the shower again.
