12-01-2025Some reef tank owners may disagree with my conclusion but after many years of owning reef tanks and FOWLRs - and having tried most of the products available - I sincerely believe this salt is the best overall value for the average salt water aquarium enthusiast. For FOWLR tanks there isnt a better salt available. For reef tanks there are better products available (Red Sea Coral Pro most notably) but the cost of those products is not reflected in the quality. Whatever salt you buy you still need to supplement - calcium, buffers, trace elements, etc., etc. - and yes you need to supplement a little more with this salt but when you total up the overall costs this salt proves to be the best value by far. I have never had an issue with this salt - mixes quick (15 minutes using a powerhead) and clear.

> 3 dayAfter having a couple of hermit crabs die. I decided I will do my best to do everything right. They seem to love sitting in the saltwater pool. They will pee in the freshwater but not the salt. LOL

> 3 dayI guess it must be ocean salt then. I didnt lab test it but it certainly is salt of some kind according to my salinity meter. I needed it for healing tanks and the red clawed crab that likes brackish water. It is ground finely so it dissolves easy which is great. So far, none of the pets disagree with it so take it for what its worth. This wasnt the most expensive one but considering I needed much less and it is salt from the ocean...its kinda pricey in general. Some aquarium hobbyists say you can just use kosher salt for a fraction of the price but ocean salt is supposed to be more beneficial for the aquatics.

> 3 dayI have used this last for the past 8 years but something fishy with this last bag i used. eveything started to close off. 3 months of using it since i only have to do 5 gallon at a time. a fellow reffer Told me to switch off to another brand and see if theres any improvement. All my water premature were a little off but after using a different salt Everything is starting to open up again. Ive never complain about the soul since I had amazing results but this comes in and when you start losing everything in the tank.

Greater than one week10/10 I use it for my hermits salt water I just put a pinch in there when I refill it and it’s good to go!!! My hermit uses the water and has for a couple months and is perfectly fine so much cheaper than crab solution!!!

> 3 dayIve been using Instant Ocean for over Thirty years. I started using it when I started my Hobby, when I became a research scientist and throughout the Thirty five years I ran an Aquarium business. I cannot recommend this salt enough.. Reef Tank, Invert Tank or a Simple Table top tank. Ive installed aquariums up to Ten Thousand Gallons, and as small as 1 gallon. They were all filled with Instant Ocean.. Now that I am almost retired?.. Getting it delived to your door for this price?... Priceless!

> 3 dayGreat for fish only tanks. May be obvious to some but I learned the hard way that this salt doesn’t have nearly enough calcium or magnesium for a reef tank or to sustain coralline algae. Switch to reef crystals :)

> 3 dayExcellent in every way. Negatives: pricey. Instructions are not very good. Experienced aquarists, however, will have no problems using it. Despite all that, it remains one of the best salts of its kind.

> 3 dayUse this to change water for my shrimp (brackish water) and no problems! Just make sure you use correct mixture for brackish shrimp.
