Instant Ocean Sea Salt (10 gal)

> 3 dayI used to own a tropical fish shop, a commercial FW fish breeder and now just a retired hobbyist. I only use Instant Ocean salts to hatch and/or grow Brine shrimp now. I have always obtained superior hatches using marine salt mixes over rock salt. In the past, Ive cultured some corals but a true measure of a marine salt mix is to have reef fish breed in captivity. I have had pairs of Yellowtail Blue Damsels, Chrysiptera parasema) breed almost every week for months at a time in the early 1980s. In a different setup in the late 1980s and early 1990s I had a 125 gal reef tank. Mostly corals with a few fish. In that tank, my pair of Pygmy Flame Angelfish, Centropyge loricula and trio of Mandarin Dragonets, Synchiropus splendidus, would regularly spawn just after the lights turned off. Of course, I never successfully raised any young because that is too difficult if one is landlocked with no access to tropical plankton to fee the young but some have been successful in tropical Pacific and Caribbean ora.com facilities. Most major public and commercial marine aquariums use Instant Ocean because it has high predictable quality at reasonable prices.

> 3 dayI used to go to the Jersey shore a lot. I would navigate my way gingerly across the sand, trying to pick out a spot on the beach where I could lay my towel without being surrounded by discarded junk. A few years ago, I was able to relax there for a only few minutes before some muscle-head kicked sand on my face and stole my girl. I applied for one of those correspondence martial arts courses, and the next year I went back and confronted that same muscle-head with my new-found skills. This time, my ex-girlfriend held me down while he pummeled me. I would never waste my money on one of those correspondence martial arts courses again. This sea salt lets me mix up some ocean water for my pets without having to risk seeing that muscle-head or my bully ex-girlfriend at the beach. For that, its priceless. However, be warned: seagulls and beach pollution not included.

> 3 daySo far so good pertaining the packaging and looks of the salt (it came out very fine like sugar and not clumpy from within the bag) . I have used this salt before with good results before switching to RSCP and have come to give it another chance because RSCP is too expensive! From what I have read, theres not much difference between this salt and more expensive ones. I will begin using one of the 50 gallon bags tomorrow, and the opened bag will been placed in a 5G bucket that I have left from my other salt. My salinity came out at about 1.027ppm (which is just a little more than I want) with two cups of salt and 4G of water. I will come back here to talk about how much calcium theres in the new salt and how my SPS and other corals react after a few months. I do dose KM nanoreef part A and B twice a week to keep my calcium from depleting because I have some big SPS colonies.

Greater than one weekIts salt for my marine tank. The fish seem happy with it. They havent complained that its too salty (thats what a Hydrometer is for). Beats the hell out of using a salt shaker from my wifes curio cabinet and shaking it over a 350 gallon tank. Id need several thousand shakers for that. Ill update this review once I hear back from my fish whether they like this brand or perhaps want me to switch brands. Oh, and there have been no deaths in the fish family after using it so I guess its working.
