16-11-2024This is a fun and inexpensive way to achieve textured and tonal looks. Batik is $13+ a yard. I can make it for $4 a yard. Always exciting to see how it turns out. Sheila

> 3 dayGreat little kit but needs more of the pre soak salt mix to keep up with the amount of dye sold in the kit. The kids had a blast making tie dye shirts, wash cloths and pillows with me.

> 3 dayA great product! I teach middle school and we used this kit to dye about 20 T-shirts, colors came out vibrant and the kids had a great time. My only wish is that there was more yellow. We ran out of it. You may want to order a separate spare bottle of yellow.

> 3 dayI liked that this dye came with soda ash. It helps to achieve brighter colors, and said in binding of dye to fabric. First photo is a large tapestry. Not a long presoak in the soda ash. Shirt soaked for 30 minutes and produced more brilliant color. Not much of a tutorial about tie dye technique, but easy enough to research basic fold patterns. Brilliant colors with tons of variations of color, they give you a mixing chart to create colors. You could easily use this at a party to create dozens of shirts. I use water bottles with a hole drilled in the cap to squirt the dye on fabric. Squirt bottles and wooden sticks to pull fabric apart while dyeing are a good idea. So are gloves, especially during rinsing process.

> 3 dayThe turquoise was clumpy like it was really old or had gotten wet at some point. The Jet black did not stay on garment, it washed out almost completely. If you want quality dyes for tie dye or just garment dying go to dharma trading.

> 3 dayThe dye I worked well on a white cotton sheet. I also overdyed some fabric strips cut from plaid and other patterned button down shirts and they looked great as well. The red was particularly potent. They all look great though.

> 3 dayI used this kit for the first time today. I wanted to create a custom shade of green for a quilting project Im presently working on. The dye powder mixes very readily with water (you need to create a sort of liquid concentrate in a cup, and then mix that into your dye bath). You will not find any detailed information in the packaging, but Jacquard has a lot of information on their web site for how-to and color mixing. I suggest getting the needed info and printing it out for a ready reference. The fabric I dyed is 100% cotton; the color is vibrant, and though I used a large stockpot for the dye bath, it was not necessary to put it on the stove. The color set beautifully in moderately hot tap water. I did notice that the turquoise seems to be more intense than the yellow, so I used only a tiny amount to create a spring green. A touch of black was added to make it a slightly darker shade. I will probably find myself buying more of the yellow dye separately, as most of my dye projects use colors which contains yellow. Ill likely buy the soda ash in a larger package for future jobs as well. This is a great starter package for becoming familiar with reactive dye. I wanted to see if this method was one Id stick with, and the kit has served that purpose well.
