I’ll start by mentioning that I’m a professional car audio installer with multiple awards at an international level. I’m not some kid working on his bucket in his parents garage. I first noticed that this material seemed thinner than the claimed 80 mil. So I put a set of digital calipers on it and the mat is closer to 70 mil. Secondly the adhesive backing was less effective than what other products I had worked with the past. But what prompted my return was the fact that unless I applied 3-4 layers the product was ineffective. Check the weight of this product compared to 36 sq ft of a comparable product. You’ll see that Kilmat weighs almost half of what any quality mat weighs. Very misleading. There are plenty of other quality alternatives to Dynamat on the market. Unfortunately this is not one of them…

My truck is just about as noisey as they come, while I wasnt jumping for joy to do the actual job of installing these, ill tell ya - pretty big difference. After the install i remember my first drive thinking whats wrong with my truck? it sounds... weird - what was weird was that it was quiet! Installing these is a labor of love. Find a nice fair weather day, some shade and put on some tunes and just get it done, if your car is noisy this is your solution. It goes on easy and has so far (1 year+) held up great, I have had to remove my door panels to install new mirrors and took a peek inside and its all held up the same as the day I put it on. I ended up doing nearly my whole SUV, interior, firewall, all 4 doors, the back bed/trunk. Made a huge difference, would do it all over again if I had to. 5/5

My 2nd time using this 80 mil kilmat. First was a 2011 Camry (turned a Toyota into a Lexus. LOL). Put a nice system (Focal speakers, etc) in Camry…. Used the Kilmat inside the doors on the doors skins, under the door panels, trunk floor, trunk sides, trunk lid, license plate, behind and under back seat. It did a great job of isolating the interior from outside…. Knock on the door skins and it sounds like a thud instead of a ring; shut the doors with the music cranked and you barely hear it outside the car! And no rattles from the sub hitting. Now I’m doing a 2011 Tundra crewmax with a very high end system…. Focal utopia components, Focal K2 power components rear, focal flax series subs, Kenwood 1037 head,JL vx800i, JL XD600/1v2,etc Used kilmat inside doors, under door panels, behind rear seat, 4 coats of rubberized undercoating spray under cab, then used 1/4” closed cell foam (siless) over the top of all above listed locations (except outside under cab)… WOW! WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The kilmat isolates and dampens while the closed cell foam adds the acoustic deadening I was looking for. The undercoating sprayed under the cab of the truck added the damping and isolation under the truck without having to pull the seats and carpet to install kilmat.. The sound made from just shutting the doors makes it obvious how much better the listening environment is going to be. I have bought (3) boxes of kilmat 80 mil 36 sq ft, (2) boxes of siless closed cell foam, 3 pack of installation “rollers” …. About 300.00 Spend less on your components and do the above process first. You’ll get much more out of your audio equipment! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Used it to cover up the road noise in my 08 tacoma and it worked amazingly! Wasnt expecting that much of an improvement but it makes a world of difference. Not only that but my music is much nicer now!

I completed a full replacement of the interior of my 86 K20. Once I had everything out of the cab, I cleaned the painted floor and put these squares down. I did not get meticulous and cover every single square inch of the cab floor but definitely got 99% of it just to the back wall of the cab. This box was more than enough and I still have about 1/3 or more of the box left. I went from a rubber mat to new carpet on top of this stuff and there is a noticeable difference in the sound level. Hard to say how much is from this and how much is from the carpet itself but the interior is much more comfortable now.

Did all 4 doors of my 2020 Taco and had 7 pieces left over out of a 36 ft box. This stuff works great. I didnt realize how much noise I was listening to until I wasnt. Very easy to apply, and it doesnt have to be perfect, and you can cut patches to fit small or irregular spaces. 3 hints: If youre not using rollers on this after you stick it on the door, youre NOT installing it right; smaller pieces are easier to deal with than large sheets; and keep this in the shade before you apply it, it will get difficult if it gets too warm.

I used a torch to ensure it was sticky because rolling it flat is too much work PLUS I like the pattern! I used it on the floor and on the box and where it is sealed off at the B-pillar, and made a big difference.

I got it for the doors because I put in a new radio. It helped!

Before purchasing, I researched several manufacturers of Sound Deadening material. I drive a truck with off-road tires and enjoy quality sound from my radio without road noise interference. All of the leading manufacturers of sound deadening material use butyl rubber in various thicknesses. I bought the .80 ml thickness from Kilmat because of the positive reviews and the price. I installed the Kilmat material in all four doors and on the back firewall. While I don’t have a decibel meter to provide firm data, the decrease in road and tire noise after installation was noticeable and, in fact, I would say surprising and significant. I definitely enjoy driving on the highway more in a quiet vehicle. My guess is that it decreased road noise level by 30% or perhaps more. The key is to buy enough material to line the “inside” metal skin of your “outer” door as shown in the photos. In summary, the purchase was well worth the effort and cost.

The sound difference is minimal with only a single layer applied. I chose to add a second layer at every point where the base layer met and created a seam. That gives the rigidity I expect. This product does not reduce all sound. It simply adds rigidity to the sheet metal and stops rattles and tinny sounds. Adding a layer of acoustic foam padding under the carpet is still advised if total sound reduction is your goal. As measured with a caliper, the material is just over 2mm thick. 80mil = 2.2mm, so it is as thick as advertised. I still wish it was significantly thicker... It is about half as thick as the old factory stuff I peeled out of my truck. It is worth noting that I am working on a 97 F350 pickup. A modern car has considerably thinner metal and a single layer may work better on modern cars. There is a slight asphalt smell on the material. However, I have yet to notice it once installed. It just smells like fresh pavement out of the box. A handy tip, buy a cheap wooden spatula and use that for the initial fit before using a roller. It is much easier to manipulate into folds and reduce air bubbles. My advice, add an extra box to your order and plan to add a second layer at strategic points to achieve the result you desire. Otherwise, just pay the extra money and get a thicker product. But, for the price, adding a second layer is still probably the best value.
