Im a classroom teacher and in our school, the teacher cannot control their own air conditioning. So in the weird spring months when the temperature can be chilly or down right hot during the day, my classroom with 32 bodies begins to heat up. I checked throughout Amazon for a fan that would do the trick. I had a box fan in my class that I borrowed from another teacher and all it did was blow hot air. After reading the reviews, I thought I would give this one a shot since it was smaller, and people seemed to love it. After testing it out, I am now a fan (no pun...ok will maybe pun intended). This fan does blow cool air and in fact on the highest setting actually made some of my students cold on a hot and stuffy 85 degree day. It will not work miracles on the sweltering summer days of 110 in the desert but it will at least give you some relief. It is easy to carry and it doesnt take up much room. In fact you can put it on a big shelf and it doesnt rattle so much that it would fall off. The noise is moderate especially when on the highest level but on the lowest and medium levels, the noise was not enough to distract my students. The quality is much better than a normal box fan. You can tell the plastic is thicker and this is more durable than the average box fan from Home Depot or Lowes. The price is great and worth it. About double the average box fan but the average box fan to me is a complete waste of money so spend a little more to get more. If you looking for a fan, this one is not very expensive and get the job done better than some of the $100 oscillating fans Ive had.

I must have loud white noise to sleep at night. I work at night and I live on a busy street in a generally loud complex, so the fan noise has a lot to drown out. I had a few air king plastic 20 inch fans that sounded like a small plane engine, which was perfect! However, after the first one ran for years until my home was flooded, the replacements died months to a year if they ran at all when they got here. I took a chance on this fan because it is described as a good source of white noise and it is supposed to be durable. This fan produces great white noise on high. I ran it on medium in the winter because it was too cold for high. It produces adequate noise on medium. I can barely hear it on low. On high, it isnt the air plane engine that the air kings were, but it is loud enough to drown out most noise from outside. It also moves a good amount of air. I put it in my hall way to pull air from the back rooms to the front, and it worked really well. The only thing that I dont like about it is the knob. As others have said, it is located on the back of the fan motor instead of the top where most knobs are. You have to move the fan to turn it off if it is parked by a wall. Overall, I like the fan so far.

My Lasko helped me get through a very warm Washington summer. I have no air condition in my apartment and this kept it cool enough. I would open up all the windows at night and pushing aside the curtains. I had the fan running near the patio door to really push the cool air in. I also had a smaller fan in the bedroom. Once it started warming up a bit the next morning, I closed everything up and kept the fan running on high. It must have worked because one Monday I had a crew of 4 electricians come through my apartment checking all the circuits and they noted my place was a lot more comfortable than the others. But I want to clarify that it was still warmish because this is NOT an A/C and if a fan is pushing warm air, you are still going to get warmish air that has been cooled somewhat by the circulation. But it did its job by keeping a breeze going and circulating the air so I wasnt sweltering. Is it noisy? Yes. Naturally, as you lower the speed, the less noise it makes, but it does make some noise. It didnt really bother me because I can tune it out while reading a book or am working on my laptop. I just view it as white noise. Quality is a tad less than what I would except for $51, with the case being a bit flimsy, but it handled being knocked over twice by the dog (onto the concrete patio floor) so it is strong enough to deal with a few blows . Overall, I am quite satisfied with the Lasko. Update June 2018: I still have this fan and it has withstood 24/7 running during the summer months for the past two+ years (where temps have reached into the mid 90’s) and we are looking at the same for this summer. The noise has faded into the background and I consider it white noise now. It has never overheated and outside of needing a good cleaning, has held together extremely well. It is currently sitting next to the open patio door pushing some of the cooler late afternoon air into the apartment. Tonight I will move it into the bedroom and place next to an open window for a cooler sleep. Again, it won’t replace an a/c, but until I can afford one this has helped keep me comfortable.

This thing is great. Its not too small, its not too big. It can swivel up and down, the settings are perfect strengths, it is easily taken apart and cleaned. Its sturdy without being heavy. And it has a long life-span. The only negative is everyone else realized how awesome it is and its gotten expensive. I paid $20 for it on sale, that price makes it pretty darn great.

Middle of the road noise level. Moves a decent amount of air for a plastic fan. Not as much as a metal fan.

I love this fan!! It is very sturdy and strong. The floor fans in the stores are flimsy now but this one stays in place no matter which way you angle it.

Its hot and super muggy in Brooklyn now and this fan has been one of the best things I ever purchased from Amazon. It arrived in a crunched box and I thought I would find a broken fan inside but to my happy surprise, it was without a scratch. The wind this dynamo produces actually does cool down my hot living room (its quite large for a mid-income building in NYC). Sadly, my old air conditioner is kaput. Several years ago, I bought a large overhead light and ceiling fan thinking it would help with sky-rocketing energy costs and I wouldnt need to run the air-conditioner on high as much. Boy, was I wrong. The afternoon sun burns up my apartment and even with the air-conditioner and ceiling fan, it tends to get stifling in here. Last summer when the air-conditioner sighed its last cool breath, I was pinching pennies and decided I needed another fan so I bought a costly Lansko upright model locally. Total waste of money. It hardly blows any air even though it’s silent and oscillates. Still pinching pennies these days, a new AC is not an option. On top of the cost of buying one with a high enough BTU, my buildings management wants $375 just for the installation because of the kind of custom windows we have under strict warranty. All this to say, the Wind Machine 3300 has been doing double-time when the temp rises over 90 and the heat index feels more like 115 degrees. Yes, it’s a little noisy when turned on high and it does not oscillate but that’s nothing I can’t live with for the breeze. I like that I can adjust where the air is blowing by tilting the fan up or down. Twice now, I’ve even forgotten to turn on the overhead fan which proves to me that this (under $40) powerhouse is a bargain. I risked the bad reviews and am thrilled with this purchase! Just keeping my fingers crossed that the Wind Machine will keep working as it is now.

This heavy duty, 5-blade, high performance floor fan moves a lot of air, even on the lowest setting. It’s powered by 3 energy-efficient speeds. If it’s air you want to move, you may want to think twice before buying a cheap $20 box fan instead of the Wind Machine. If you live in the heat with no central air or window AC units that do a poor job of circulating the air around your whole house or apartment, this air circulator easily brings cooling comfort to the largest household spaces. Pivoting head directs the breeze any way you want to help you beat the heat.

This rugged yet stylish high velocity fan is lightweight and easy to move. It comes equipped with an Easy-Grip handle, making it a breeze to move from the home office to the garage work shop or wherever cooling relief is needed. The 6 feet cord is nice and long which comes in handy when you are moving the fan around the room. It’s Ideal for a home gym or drying out a wet basement floor.

If you need white noise for sleeping this fan creates a soothing purr that drowns out outside noises making it easy to fall asleep. This standing fan is 23.4 inches tall and the study base occupies a 25.4 x 7.2 inch footprint.
