Ill be honest and say that I ordered this for myself but the kids took it over and I had no chance. I never realized until I started building the larger Lego sets that I enjoy it immensely and I actually turned my spouse onto this as well. I two kids still interested in Legos as their journey has just begun at age five. The are starting K this year and dont have a great grasp on reading yet but building Legos have really helped them learn numbers. The instructions are fantastic and all you need to do follow them is look at the picture and and find how many of each piece you need for the next section. They still need some help from mom and dad but are really becoming quite proficient. This Ghost Train in pretty fun. It comes with multiple characters both scary and kind of normal. My favorite is the one that looks like Doc from Back To The Future. This takes a good chunk of time to put together, for us many days, as we let our young ones take the helm and work at their pace. This has a ton of new features that were not used to such as the cool pop out wings and the track. They kids love moving things and Im going to have to look into more track. These is definitely more intricate than our usual builds. The app it pretty easy to follow and come complete with scary music. You can choose your on ghost as well as if youd like to catch one. It was honestly a bit frustrating to me but the kids picked up on it quickly. Strange how that happens. This kept them entertained for a bit and theyve come back to it several times. They do enjoy playing with their set and come back to them almost every day. As with anything new and shiny it gets played with me most until it settles into the fray with the others. This is the only really interactive one with have though and its just in time for the month of little ghosts and goblins. Overall, a fun build (with the parents) and after using their little brains to build they can reacquaint themselves with a screen.

This was a pretty big build with lots of good parts and minifigures. The kids were drooling over the train parts and trestles to add to their current limited supply of train parts. But they were also interested in trying the interactive app. They downloaded it first but were a little disappointed that they needed to build the train before using it. In some ways that seems to be a unapologetic marketing trick to force you to buy the whole line. They tore into the build and had it put together in a couple hours that were interupted by supper. They enjoyed the build and I appreciate the actions on the engine like the pop out wings with side panels that raise up allowing the wings to pop out. The action is a little stiff, but satisfying. the opening hood that becomes a mouth is also interesting, although it all comes out a little childish to me. The whole line seems a little childish, but it is obviously aimed at a younger audience that is addicted to screens and collecting. Once built they tried the app and enjoyed it well enough. It seems to be a little like pokeman go in that you collect the ghosts. It has simple game play and some interesting interaction with the set. It is a little kitschy, and a little fun but not a lasting game. Definitely seems marketing driven. But all in all, it is a fun set, it has some incredible pieces and while the set will probably be cannabalized quickly, it was enjoyed a lot during the build. Nice set.

Our four year old is a huge fan of legos, and he was excited to put together this set. He was able to do it 95% himself, with just a little occasional help. This ghost train has so many fun features. The engine has wings that fold out and in using a lever in the roof. One of the cars has a clear jail-like compartment that mini figures fit inside. And the third car has a large weapon on top. Most of the mini figures can transform into ghost versions with a new head and hair. The winged train is definitely our sons favorite aspect of this figure, the wings snap in and out in a very satisfying way. It would be nice if more tracks were included so you could actually drive the train around. There are only enough tracks for it to sit in place. The set comes with a free augmented reality game you can download to a phone or tablet. The game didn’t work on the older tablet our son uses. So we played on a phone. It was fairly easy to capture a picture of our train, but you only really needed to use the LEGO set once during the game — you set a color dial then scan that color. After that, the game doesn’t really need the set at all, and in fact it would probably be more fun without it, since it’s annoying to try to keep the phone oriented on the train. You basically just tap the image of the train to find trouble spots, then scan a minifigure, then fight a ghost. It takes about 5 mins. Then it’s over. And that’s it. You can repeat with some variations, but there’s not much to it. So that was a little disappointing. But legos have always been plenty of fun with no bonus game, so no real harm done! It’s still a fun set. We havent touched the game since, but our son is still playing with the train.

This is the perfect holiday activity for our 8 years old twins - there will be help from older cousins if they need it. So, with rain predicted for Thanksgiving, we have a great indoor activity planned. This is a particularly nice building kit - we had to try out a part of out ourselves and almost got hooked completely! They love LEGO building kits - and this one is going to be a special favorite! Quality parts and pieces go together easily.

Legos are wonderful educational toys but the cost has become astronomical making it to become only a “special” present for most average kids.

This is a great value with the versatile of this LEGO set. Theres a lot going on and perfect for kids or adults. You can use it as a plain train and plain station or change it to a haunted scene. For more entertainment, you can use it with an app. This LEGO set comes with a thick instruction book. The LEGO people have two different faces to them. They are very expressive. The body has torso printing. Theres added face pieces that I have never seen before and different hair pieces. Theres stickers on some of the parts. Once the LEGOs were built, the train is easy to load on the tracks. The only difficult part is getting each train cart to connect/disconnect with each other. It uses a little ball attachment. Once its attached, it stays put. The train set has fun interactive pieces, like having the teeth pop up in the front and the wings pop out the sides. Theres an app that you can use to interact with this set. DOWNLOAD THE APP BEFORE BUYING THIS SET. Then you can see if its compatible with what you want to use it with. The app brings in a nice background to your train when you scan it. You scan areas and battle ghosts. Theres no risk in playing it. Definitely an added bonus and makes LEGOs more fun! This LEGO set would be perfect for Halloween time!
