I love skill building toys that require hands on concentration and patience. Also, the child feels in control and that is important for a youngsters confidence building in my opinion. This set has great craftsmanship and wonderful colors. You can download the app on your smartphone for more interactive play and that is a blast for adults or children. It makes it more realistic and exciting. Capture the animated ghosts on your phone! Figures are pretty sturdy and tracks are easy to put together. The technology part of this set will help inspire the imagination and keep the game interesting for years. It’s not a set they’ll grow bored with.

This is a fun, complex Lego build, especially for boys in the 8-11 range. Its not super easy, the train itself is detailed and cool looking, and it would make a great Halloween gift. (Yeah, each of our kids gets a non-candy Halloween gift from us; usually something with a spooky-ish theme.) Even my 12-year-old enjoyed building it, though it was definitely more in my 8-year-olds wheelhouse. The interactive element is ... less great. Its basically a series of videos that look like gaming cut scenes that, arent poorly done but also have very little to do with the build itself. My kids found taking a picture of the box, worked just as well as taking a picture of the build, which sort of defeats the purpose. There are also mini games that are mildly entertaining, but not something I can see having long term play potential.

After receiving the wrong set of legos... I returned it to get this set. After my son put it together which took hours, he really enjoyed it for 20 minutes.

Directions were explicit-extra parts just incase- all parts are spot on & manufactured precisely. Lots of moving parts and pleased with overall kit

Ill be honest and say that I ordered this for myself but the kids took it over and I had no chance. I never realized until I started building the larger Lego sets that I enjoy it immensely and I actually turned my spouse onto this as well. I two kids still interested in Legos as their journey has just begun at age five. The are starting K this year and dont have a great grasp on reading yet but building Legos have really helped them learn numbers. The instructions are fantastic and all you need to do follow them is look at the picture and and find how many of each piece you need for the next section. They still need some help from mom and dad but are really becoming quite proficient. This Ghost Train in pretty fun. It comes with multiple characters both scary and kind of normal. My favorite is the one that looks like Doc from Back To The Future. This takes a good chunk of time to put together, for us many days, as we let our young ones take the helm and work at their pace. This has a ton of new features that were not used to such as the cool pop out wings and the track. They kids love moving things and Im going to have to look into more track. These is definitely more intricate than our usual builds. The app it pretty easy to follow and come complete with scary music. You can choose your on ghost as well as if youd like to catch one. It was honestly a bit frustrating to me but the kids picked up on it quickly. Strange how that happens. This kept them entertained for a bit and theyve come back to it several times. They do enjoy playing with their set and come back to them almost every day. As with anything new and shiny it gets played with me most until it settles into the fray with the others. This is the only really interactive one with have though and its just in time for the month of little ghosts and goblins. Overall, a fun build (with the parents) and after using their little brains to build they can reacquaint themselves with a screen.

This is our first time trying the new LEGO line Hidden Side. We have not used the app functionality, but purely based on the building and play value, this is another great LEGO creation. Hours of entertainment.

We are train and LEGO fans so this Ghost Train Express building set is a good fit. In addition to the basic components these Hidden Side sets include an optional augmented reality game app although an android or iOS tablet or smartphone is required to utilize that feature. After loading the app, point the device at the completed structure and move it around for an interactive experience. The Hidden Side app includes games, mysteries and ghost hunting/capturing. Future updates are mentioned which should help maintain interest. Check device compatibility on the website—checkdevice. And, it is probably obvious but to avoid confusion, the train is not motorized and use of the app is optional. This haunted train and station set is large, 5 inches wide, 5 inches tall and 24 inches long, and at 698 pieces it is reasonably challenging. The train tracks are the uniform size used in other LEGO building sets so they can be incorporated into other projects. Included are 5 minifigures and there are movable features on the train, like the pop-out ghost wings, a cannon to help eradicate the ghosts, etc. As always, the pieces fit together well which is not the case with some other brands. The illustrated instruction guide provides solid guidance and the finished project is visually impressive. The set is designed for ages 8 and above so younger builders may need older sibling or adult assistance during construction. Build time will vary based on experience and whether done over a couple of days or in a single sitting. Suitably creepy without being frightening. Excellent.

Engage youngsters in fun augmented-reality ghost-hunting adventures at the LEGO Hidden Side 70425 Newbury Haunted High School. This awesome toy combines a buildable LEGO model with an app to deliver a fully interactive play experience – interacting with the model makes things in the app come alive. With continuous updates, tough boss ghosts to battle, new mysteries to solve, cool items to find and ghosts to defeat and collect, this LEGO Hidden Side set takes LEGO play to a new dimension! This building toy for kids is full of cool details to kick-start hours of imaginative play. Kids will love to build and play with this school playset and try to defeat the ghost figures haunting the school. With two hero minifigures, Douglas Elton, a cute ghost dog figure and 4 other minifigures, this school toy is designed for role-play fun.
