I was just a little boy when I saw my first Star Wars movie and Im still watching the new ones today. For me, this set is one that you put together and set on your bookshelf or set. It was a fun build and our kids desperately want to play with it obviously but its all mine.

My 5 year old son is a huge Lego fan and loves to build and rebuild the sets, often seeing what modifications he can make to call the build his own. Needless to say, he was ecstatic when the tie fighter box came out and the bags were laid on the table, and I was equally so as I was able to share a bit of my childhood with him in the process. While its quite a large set (496 pieces), the bags are labeled by number, and the instructions follow those bag numbers. This means you can pull out a single bag and build a portion of the tie fighter without the need to open all the bags at once. As you move on to a portion of the instructions that requires a new bag, you match the instructions to the bag number and continue building. Its worth noting, this set shares some of the Lego Technic pieces and processes for connection, so its important that you orient portions of the build correctly (specifically the wing inserts) so they all fit together. Overall, if you or your child enjoy Legos as much as my son and I do, youll enjoy this set and as a bonus you dont need to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy the build!

What I expected

This is a reasonably easy build, with the only caveat that the four wings (two of which mirror the other two) are essentially identical, which might make it seem a little tedious for impatient builders. The symmetrical nature of the Tie Interceptor means that a mistake is easy to spot. The final model looks really nice, and makes for a large, fun toy.

Like most 5th graders, my 10 year old son loves both legos and star wars. He just cannot get enough of either subject. When I showed him this set, his eyes got big and basically said that he would see me in three years when this kit would finally be completed. While it took him only a few days to construct, I enjoyed watching him overcome his struggles during a misplaced piece or alignment along the way. I was shocked that it was as large as it was and he liked that the lid and the blasters moved.

Its lego! Red and black is a great combo. Had to get 2 to make something even better!

Straight from the new TV Series, Star Wars Resistance, overall this set is an excellent choice for any Lego lover. If you’re thinking about picking it up, here are some pros and cons I’ve noticed after buying this set myself. Pros: The ship does not break easily and is very swooshable. Many parts in this set are unique or hard to find. At the same time, the parts are generic looking enough to to allow kids to be able to create their own inventions without feeling limited. The two missile shooters work really well, and the set comes with a brick separator so kids (or college students like me) don’t have to bite pieces off if they accidentally stick them together. Also, all four figures are unique to this set. Major Vonreg’s red helmet in particular has been molded using two different colors (as opposed to molding it in red and painting it black, which can cause paint to chip off if played with too extensively.) Cons: Most of my gripes are minor. I have noticed that the placement of the firing mechanism makes it easy to sometimes accidentally misfire the missiles. Also, while three of the figures have double-sided heads, Major Vonreg’s head is is just a black headpiece with no face. Finally, as some of the other reviewers have noted, because the four wings are identical, the build can be a bit repetitive. I personally did not mind this as much, and I could see why others might feel the way they do. All in all, a terrific set on the whole.

This was a gift. The c little boy loved it, especially because he could play with it after he put it together!
