Updated 17-November 2021 - Back to 5 stars. I was contacted by support and had numerous back and forth emails. They explained to me the reason for the reboots and the solution they developed to resolve the reboots. They released a new firmware for the devices and made it available OTA. I updated my units and the reboots stopped. For the technically-minded, it had to do with IPv6 and an older API in their firmware that would reboot. The newer firmware corrected this and I have been able to return my minis back in service. Updated 13-Aug 2021 - The units reboot all of the time making things connected like TVs or lights go off and on. Tried tech support. Reduced to 1 star *Original* - It seems most of these arrive with firmware 4.1.11. When you add them to your Home the Apple Home app will complain there is an update available (notification and icon and everything) but the Meross app says there is not one available. This can be annoying however, use my instructions below to fix it and upgrade to 4.1.12. But it will require you to use two iOS devices. Below I use an iPhone and iPad for mine. But no reason you can’t use two iPhones or two iPads (Meross app is not made to use on iPad but will work). To clarify, this is what to do: 1- Install Meross app on iPhone and iPad (unfortunately Meross requires an account to update firmware) 2- Plug in the Smart Plug Minis one at a time into the wall (this is to avoid confusion selecting and updating) 3- Launch the Meross app on iPhone, click + on upper right of the app to add a device and then scroll down to Smart Plug Mini 4- Step through the Wifi steps and select the Meross Wifi that pops up, choose connect and add to home 5- It will pop open the Home app and then you scan the QR code and then step through the Home app process to add 6- Once added then switch quickly to your other iOS device (iPad in my case) but already have the Meross app open. 7- Select the + on the home screen and it will show a new device needs to be added 8- Click OK and then go back to the home screen of the Meross app and then select Account. A firmware update shows available 9- Apply the Firmware and Bob’s your Uncle. I hope this helps anyone else that this happens too. I really like my Meross plugs. They are very quick to respond.

I have 4 of these outlets; about every 2 months, half to all of them stop working and cant be reached. Then in order to reinstall them, the normal Homekit install process doesnt work and you have to join the device wifi network and install each one manually. Nevertheless, this seems to be the only real option for controlling outlets and works most of the time.

If you already have lightbulbs and just need a smart plug to control using Apple HomeKit, then this is the product for you. A 4 pack was perfect for multiple lights/electronic gadget of your choice. Seamless integration with HomeKit. Highly recommended.

I started buying Meross Smart MiniPlugs about a year ago, attracted by their price, and a little nervous about their quality. I have found the MiniPlugs to be solidly built, relatively easy to set up, and have had no reliability issues. I also bought a smart wall switch and wall dimmer switch from Meross. Same good experience with both of those. Although I believe you can add these devices to Home without installing the Meross app, you will not be able to get upgraded firmware for the devices without having a Meross app and account. This is not a big issue - the app is free, and doesnt trouble you with notifications or junk mail, etc. Apple Home will tell you that a device update is available. You simply use the app, click update and its done. I bought another 4 mini plugs during a cyber Monday deal saving about $2 on each device. Even without the discount, these smart plugs are an excellent value.

I use this to automate a lot of my appliances and extras that are plugged in all the time but don’t need to be. This plug works great 98% of the time occasionally I have issues where it says it’s unreachable and in order to fix it I have to unplug it and then replug it back in and it works fine after that. I have a hunch it could be because it’s too far from the router but not positive. As far as the size of the plug goes it’s a little large and sticks out from the wall a ways I would say if the plug continues to be made in this size it might be nice to Have a side plug instead of from the front but this is only an issue for some of my plugs like behind a dresser or other plugs that I have an 3 plug extension plugged into it for multiple inputs. Meross gets at this with their double plug smart plug but it doesn’t fully fix a couple of my problems. I also enjoy that the plug has a manual button on it in case the plug is easy enough to just turn on rather than opening the app. I also like the ability to name each plug something different and create multiple automations for my different schedules. Overall this smart plug works really well for what I bought it for. I’m really pleased.

So, I use these for lighting in my apartment since they do not have lights in them and use them for the bedrooms and living room to power on lights but to also automate them to turn off when I leave and turn on when I get home automatically. I specifically use homekit and these added just fine. I did download the meross app only to update the firmware on them and then deleted the meross app afterwards. I have no complaints on them. I use a wireless router that have the 2.4 and 5 frequency and combined with the same wifi name and had no issues and they react immediately when using voice control and manual button on the app. Just remember when you have set them up, to update the firmware as they come with older firmware which is expected.

Countless attempts to add these to HomeKit in the usual way failed. I followed the manufacturers troubleshooting tips and switched my wifi to 2.4 GHz only but this didnt work. Finally, after some internet searching, here is how I was finally able to pair them... 1. Plug in the meross outlet 2. Turn iPhone to airplane mode but turn wifi back on. 3. Go to apples settings -> Wi-Fi and scroll down below the list of wifi networks and you should see Set Up New Device section with the Meross device listed and tap on that. 4. A pop up will appear telling you this is a home accessory, tap Add to Home & Wi-Fi 5. An Add accessory pop up will appear and you will be tempted to use the iphone camera to scan the qr code on the plug. dont do it. select More options.... 6. From Select an Accessory to Ad to My Home pop up, tap the icon for the meross plug 7. A pop up that says Setup Code will appear and enter in the number that appears on the qr code sticker on the plug. Finally, using that procedure, all the plugs were able to add to HomeKit.

It was a bit difficult to set up with Apple Home. Once it connected, the installation/setup went fine.

First off I have to say that I was given these plugs as a promotional item for my honest opinion and review. This will be a pretty long review but it does have a somewhat happy ending. The Meross Mini Smart plugs do live up to their name and are small enough to easily fit 2 on a standard dual outlet wall plug. The Apple Home integration was a simple and very straightforward process. All 4 plugs show up and can easily be controlled in the Home app. With that being said, the integration into the Meross app, Alexa and SmartThings was extremely frustrating but I was eventually able to get the plugs fully functional in Apple Home, the Meross app, Alexa and SmartThings. I do not have or use Google Assistant so I cannot speak to that aspect of the integration process. I initially used the Meross app for the setup and by just following the prompts was easily able to integrate all 4 plugs into Apple Home. But, after that, I could not get them to show up in any other app including the Meross app itself. Eventually I stumbled upon a method of installation that worked for me and finally allowed full functionality in Apple Home, Meross, Alexa and SmartThings. With the Meross app already installed and after factory resetting the plugs I initially set them up using Apple Home directly by scanning the QR code for each plug. After getting them all set up in Apple Home, I opened the Meross app, tapped the “+” in the upper right to add devices and Meross found the 4 plugs. I was then able to add them to both Alexa and SmartThings. They all seem to be functioning just fine in all 4 apps except for the fact that the Meross app does not usually show the correct state of the plug when they are controlled by any of the other apps but all of the other apps show the correct state when a plug is controlled by the Meross app. If the Meross app is closed and then opened again it will show the correct state for the plug. So, at this point I would rate the physical plugs as a 5 but because of the software issues and having to jump through hoops to finally get things up and seemingly working as advertised I can only grudgingly give the Meross HomeKit version Mini Smart Plugs an overall 4 star rating but for the price and functionality in the many different apps i would highly recommend giving them a try.

It took several attempts to get this to install properly with Apple Home Kit. Tried the supplied app and through Apple Home. Finally got it installed through Apple Home and its run flawlessly since.
