You have to make sure you are adjusting your pc so it will not get stuck while it is trying ti restart

I have a small rolling server rack in my home office. I needed a good quality switch to connect my servers, desktops and DSL modem. This unit works without issue and all connected devices that support 1GB are seeing that speed. A speed test between servers shows the bandwidth is right on the money. I like that it can be rack mounted or used on a desk and that the power supply is internal so there is no power supply brick. Others have mentioned a noise issue; however with a pair of DL 380s running below it, I never heard it :)

The product is a good product. I do not have any issues with it functions. It preforms as advertised. My only issue is that the port indicator lights are on the face of the unit adjacent to the inputs. Id prefer the input on the rear and the indicator light on the front of the unit.

I have one of these in my house where I ran Category 6 Ethernet cable throughout. I use every port on the switch and I have to say that I am impressed. I have streamed video as well as shared large data files throughout my home network to which a variety of devices connect (computers, game systems, etc) and everything runs wonderfully. As one of the other reviewers said, simply put, it delivers on exactly what it is supposed to.

The first Netgear ProSafe 16 port gigabit switch I received was defective. The ports functioned for about 10 minutes and then one at a time each port stopped working. As each status and activity light went out the associated port died. Having read reviews here that reported similar defective units, I contacted Amazon and as usual got an immediate response, printed out the UPS return label and sent the defective unit on its way. A couple of days later I received a replacement from Amazon, plugged it in and all of the ports seem to be operating properly. I have had it for a month. It seems completely stable. Though I dont have a way of monitoring throughput, Windows reports that NIC cards that are supposed to support gigabit speeds are indeed operating at 1.0 Gbs, and the speed improvement of those connections, formally connected to a 100 Mbs switch, is noticeable. The fan noise that has been mentioned by others is definitely a factor. It is not an unpleasant sound, but it is much louder than any CPU fan Ive had. It makes much more noise than the HVAC system in my home. For me the fan serves as source of white noise, but it could be a real annoyance to those that want a quiet working environment.

I like the Netgear products but Im giving the switch a one star rating because of what I believe is a deceptive lifetime warranty. Netgear requires the original sales receipt to honor their warranty. I bought this switch to replace one exactly like it that stopped working after two years but the lifetime warranty is useless without the receipt. The product itself works quite well.

This switch is the second of these I have purchased. Both have worked flawlessly, were easy to install and required no configuration at all. I would recommend this to anyone who wants 16 hight speed ports. My only complaint is that the fan is pretty noisy so you wont want to put it into an office.
