> 24 hourDid some internet research concerning rosacea. My understanding is folks deal for years with this often without much success. That was pretty much my story. Part of my wanderings on the net suggested that there was a rosacea link with deficiencies in zinc and Lysine. I ordered the 22mg solgar zinc picolinate tablets and the NOW Foods L-lysine 500 mg, 250 Capsules. I chose these because other reviewers said both were well absorbed by the body and well tolerated. I started taking one each tablet a day with food. My order arrived 5 June 15. As of today (20 July 15), it has almost totally cleared my rosecea up. If I scored a 10/10 on a roseacea scale before, Im probably a 1/10 or 1.5/10 now. Im posting this same recommendation on the Now foods site also.

> 24 hourI was sick of paying 17 bucks for the smallest tube Ive ever seen of Abreva to treat my cold sores. I needed another solution and I just searched and searched. Then this amino acid popped up and I gave it a shot. Im very glad I did. I take it ever single day. Ill take 1000 mg everyday and when days that I feel a cold sore coming or a big event Im nervous about is happening Ill take 2-3000 mg for 3 days straight. It works amazing. I would get cold sores one after the other after the other. Maybe one a month. Thats awful and it looks bad. I get maybe 3 a year now more like two and they last very very short amount of time. Now if I actually see a cold sore coming in I will using L lysine plus which is a very inexpensive cold sore medicine along with this. other than that the cold sores are so reduced since taking this that I cant recommend it enough. OH and dont buy the 1000 mg pill is like a horse pill and terrible to try to get down. Get these take two and thank me later.

> 24 hourI ordered this mainly to take along with my other supplements for lipedema and lower leg circulation but didnt start taking it till I felt some soreness and skin sloughing in my mouth. I thought it might be the start of an apthous ulcer, I remembered I had lysine and took them 2x/day already by the third day it was healed and nothing came of it! As a hygienist I recommend this as a natural alternative for oral lesions but never had to use it now I can say it worked for me as well. hopefully it will help repair the collagen and connective tissue in my lower legs too.

> 24 hourThis is a great product for cats with feline herpes virus, an incurable and unpleasant respiratory illness that causes the cat to continually sneeze and suffer from sores in the mouth, discharge from both eyes and nose, and possibly tooth resorption as well. Although there is no cure for feline herpes and the infection is lifelong, l-lysine does a great job of eliminating the respiratory symptoms since it inhibits replication of the virus. This is well worth the expense of the supplement since feline herpes if untreated can lead to blindness. NOW foods l-lysine is the same strength as Viralys, which the vet prescribed for my ill cat. She did not test for the disease but told me to try Viralys and if it cleared up the symptoms (which it did) then the cat has herpes and needs to take l-lysine every day. She said that l-lysine is harmless to cats without herpes so there is no need to go to the expense of lab tests; just see whether or not the supplement helps reduce symptoms. I open a capsule and mix the powder into a small amount of baby food chicken and the cat eagerly licks it from the spoon. My cat is small and I have found that in the absence of stress, giving the medication once a day is adequate. Stress, illness, fleas, poor diet, extreme temperatures or anything else which can negatively affect the immune system may cause the feline herpes virus symptoms to re-emerge, so if I notice a runny nose then I step up the dose to twice a day. If you are on a really tight budget you can purchase one-pound containers of l-lysine such as Vitacost L-Lysine Powder 435 mg which has 822 servings for under $10. Viralys costs twice as much (about $22) on Amazon for 100 grams, and it is also loose powder so dosing again is approximate. The Viralys container does not specify how many servings are included so it is hard to compare price with the NOW product. However, I like the convenience of the pre-measured capsules and presume that they stay fresher than a tub of powder does, particularly in a humid climate, plus I am hoping that quality control is higher for supplements marketed for people, so I purchase the NOW product. Here are the dosing directions from Viralys, which is 500mg of l-lysine hydrochloride per rounded scoop mixed into a palatable base: Use in cats and kittens as a nutritional supplement for conditions responsive to lysine. The suggested amount for cats over 6 months of age is one rounded scoop (500 mg) given orally twice daily. The suggested amount for kittens under 6 months of age is one-half scoop (250 mg) given orally twice daily. The powder may be sprinkled over dry food or mixed with a small amount of canned food. I am considering taking this supplement myself, since some research suggests that lysine might help prevent bone loss associated with osteoporosis by increasing calcium absorption, although scientific studies are lacking. From UMMC: Most people get enough lysine in their diet, although athletes, vegans who dont eat enough beans, and burn patients may need to take a supplement. For vegans, legumes (beans, peas, and lentils) are the best sources of lysine, although it is also found in nuts, soy products, spirulina, fenugreek seed and brewers yeast. However, I presume that the marketing for this supplement targets athletes hoping to increase muscle mass rather than vegans or senior citizens, since I find it at the grocery store in the section with protein powders and supplements for athletes.

> 24 hourThis maybe a miracle! Ive had cold sores for years and I hate them. I tried otc and prescribed ointments, but they still last for a week and look gross. Im totally sel-conscious. Now that I have kids, Ive become overwhelmed trying to make sure I dont infect them. This led me to explore any alternative I could find on the internet. I tried many things, but L-lysine is the first product that should immediate and remarkable improvements. Now as soon as I feel the tingle, I double the dose. Sores barely become noticeable and last for a day it two!!! Its amazing. I cannot recommend this product enough!

> 24 hourMy doctor told me that if I was getting sick or ever thought I was getting shingles or a cold sore to take 1500mg L-Lysene twice a day -OR- 1000mg three times a day with a strong dose of vitamin C. Although I cannot be sure, I thought I was getting the shingles about 2 years ago & immediately began the L-Lysene 1500mg twice a day with vitamin C & it cleared up. Having been a nurse for many years, I have seen & heard about shingles & feel sure that is what I was getting.

> 24 hourI purchase many NOW products. Tried this lysine product on cats who take this supplement daily, vital for their compromised immune systems. Unfortunately, it did NOT work well, as with most other lysine brands. The cats started showing symptoms of their chronic infections a few days later. After putting them back on the other (more expensive brand) they went back to remission.... Every family member takes 2,000 mg of lysine daily, so we rather pay a little more money on a brand that works well on cats as our control group. To be fair to NOW, the fact that their lysine does not work well in cats, does not necessarily mean that it will not work well in humans -but for me, it is a semi-scientific observational indication to stay on a brand that works well in our control group
