> 3 dayIt is amazing, but it is too big if you think to travel with it as a carry-on.

21-04-2025Cmon guys, weve all seen it. The yoga pants girl on the trail swinging her arms back and forth only carrying a water bottle talking about how warm it is....then the sweaty guy wheezing behind her trying to keep up as hes weighed down with all the gear in the backpack...which is 80% her stuff that probably wont even be used the entire time you are hiking...Thats me, Im the sweaty guy. So youd better believe Im going to spend whatever I have to on a pack that makes my pack mule job bearable. This may be overkill for a normal day hiker that only puts on about 10-20 miles a hike. My last backpack was made for going to school rather than hiking. It sat flat against my back so no air could get in there which made for a pretty gross situation. Every time we took a break and I took it off I dreaded the soggy wet thing getting placed back on me. This pack is much better in that way. It has a nice breathable mesh in the back that allows a pretty decent air flow. My biggest worry now is that with the extra room in this pack my wife might find more useless crap for me to haul around....

> 3 dayCant wait to trail test this! My wife and I have two hiking backpacks, my old Kelty Red Cloud, which is similar in size and fit to this one, and an external frame pack. Im wholeheartedly a fan of internal frame backpacks--the external frame rubs on my shoulders and doesnt feel nearly as comfortable to carry and wear. But this Osprey has awesome ventilation and molds so nicely to your back that I can tell its going to be a great pack. My one minor complaint about internal packs was the lack of ventilation, and just accepted the fact that my back was going to get really sweaty on any hike. The entire Osprey Atmos pack is open and ventilation with this really awesome system of webbing that will allow airflow back there. The best of both worlds! A well-fit and snug pack, with breathability. Although the Atmos is the mens pack, my wife found that it fit her perfectly, at the right size and shape for her shoulders and hips. Perhaps the womens pack would be an even better fit, but she liked this one. I thought it seemed a little narrow in the shoulders for me, and sits a little higher on my waist than I expected, even with the anti-gravity adjustment all the way up. The antigravity adjustment raises or lowers the shoulder straps to the right comfort height for you. Im not a particular big guy--60 and slim, but I still think this would be a wonderfully comfortable pack to wear, and it has a close profile, so you dont have a huge span protruding out of your back, which is great both for traveling and also for going through tighter trails in the wilderness. All the requisite load lifter straps, adjustments, tighteners, extra hooks and loops cover the bag, with plenty of smartly placed pockets and pouches for stashing and organizing your gear. The sleeping back compartment is spacious and the main compartment also has plenty of room for your gear, for a longer trek. Everything seems sturdy and well made, and completely thought out.

14-04-2025Buying a highly related $270 backpack, I naively thought it would a decent all-arounder. Turns out that its really bad at handling loads heavier than 40+- lbs. Did a 4 days 40 miles loop in the Cascades. First day was bearable, but by the second I had shoulder and neck pain and my skin around both sides of my hips almost started bleeding (see photo). Im not a novice to backpacking, nor am I a thin guy; the load really wasnt that heavy but, the suspension system on this backpack prioritizes ventilation over ergonomics and long-distance hauling ability. There are many great things about it so I might keep it for short, summer time overnight trips - as the ventilation system does work quite well - but would never depend on it for 4-5 days trips.

> 3 dayquick adjust waist belt system failed after two uses. The Velcro no longer holds the adjustment pads in, so when you tighten the belt they just slide out. Terrible design.

> 3 dayVery comfortable pack. Handles and distributes very efficiently and with ture airflow I could hardly tell my back was sweating. Totally worth the money!

> 3 dayI come from the era of frame packs. They never fit me well as I am narrow and have scoliosis. I ended up through the years using day packs and a Duluth pack. This is a massive step up for me in comfort and design. It is all the pack Id ever want to carry. What I like the most is how adjustable this pack is for a proper fit. Even those of us who are asymmetrical can get an excellent functional fit. This pack requires a close examination of all its compartments. As a long time Duluth packer, I am used to one big space. This is a refined and compartmentalized pack and youll get the most use from it if you use each section to its best purpose for you. I love how well made this pack is and how smart the kinetic engineering. Ive never carried a load so comfortably. This is the last pack Ill ever need. I highly recommend it.
