Perixx PERIPRO-401 PS2 to USB Adapter for Keyboard and Mouse - Built-in USB Controller - Black

Really wanted this to work but it seems to cause my keyboard to double press numbers and letters.

I was able to get this working on a Windows 10 system through a ps/2 KVM switch. This is how: installed Peripro 401 with nothing attached to it. used the keyboard already attached to the ps/2 (kb/m shared port) on computer to log in. Plugged in the mouse to peripro 401 port. The mouse was not seen by the computer. I moved the keyboard over to this device and rebooted. On reboot both mouse and keyboard then worked. i have switched KVM to other systems and back and it still sees the mouse and keyboard on all systems.

Plugged the adapter into the keyboard and computer and it worked as would be expected. I have been using this computer for several weeks with no issue.

I have an old IBM style keyboard with loud keys from the early 90s that I successfully hooked up to a new laptop using this cable. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised that it worked with no issues. I havent dug up an old PS/2 mouse yet, but Ill have to try that at some point.

Plug in a PS/2 keyboard and it works. The main issue I have with this keyboard is when I play video games. I am by means no professional gamer that needs anti ghosting (or whatever those top-tier keyboards provide) and I have never noticed any issue with this keyboard gameplay-wise, except when it comes to holding down keys. It seems that when I am playing a game where I need to press a button for a long time (like a racing game where you are accelerating straight, or an FPS when you are running straight) the keyboard forgets that the button is pressed and stops sending the signal. This doesnt happen when you are using the keyboard for other things, so maybe holding W to go straight but then pressing Shift or Ctrl at different times. This only occurs when W is the only button pressed. I can work around this knowing the issue (strafing or pressing unassigned buttons when i am doing straight sections) but I would rather not.

Likes: Showed up within 24hrs of order, priced well, worked reasonably well. Dislikes: For the first few hours of usage, when typing, occasionally would behave as if there were a stuck key, sort of like thisssssssssssssssssssss. Needed to be ready with the backspace key. Seems, too, to have difficultly generating a wake event to the laptop. Im used to hitting the enter key to bring up the login screen, but the keyboard via this device doesnt appear to do this. However, the wireless mouse Im also using does do this. Overall, Im pretty happy being able to continue to use my Model M keyboard with this laptop, so well satisfied with the product. Update: got asked a question as to whether the product works with only one dongle connected. Answer: yes. See the picture for how Ive got mine set up.

I work with many computers and this USB to PS/2 adapter has come in handy many times, so much that I have purchased multiple units. So far this unit has worked in every new PC I needed to add to PS/2 based KVMs. Interestingly enough, while this dongle also works to allow PCs to boot headless through a BIOS that does not have an option to skip keyboard errors on POST, I found that it allowed a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 motherboard to boot with a brand new Corsair Gaming K70 RGB MK.2 keyboard that can only be plugged into a USB 3 port. Just having this adapter plugged into a regular USB port allowed the PC to boot past the POST screen into Windows 10, where the OS loaded the keyboard drivers to recognize the keyboard and allow one to log on and use it normally. Worth the $6 to use new keyboard on old system.

The sales agent at Best Buy said I could not use my high-quality keyboard and mouse with my new computer due to old connectors on them. I love my ancient keyboard and mouse. The keyboard has keys, not flat buttons-- finding this adapter and hat it really works has saved me from anxious hours of adjusting to the new, cheap, horrible keyboards. Perfect and recommended!

Works as expected.

I had an old/new keyboard that had a much better feel and response than my wifes and she wanted it but it had a PS/2 connection and her new computer, of course, is all USB. This item was shipped promptly and I connected it and shes a happy girl!
