Pokémon Legends: Arceus - Nintendo Switch

Maybe not a 10/10 game by itself but in terms of Pokémon this game is a masterpiece and I still think that is saying something. Pokémon has had some ups but probably more downs but this game changes the old style of Pokémon in almost all good.

Cool spin on the progression system, with the focus on catching Pokemon its a very unique experience. the battling system is very simplified as it really isnt that important, which is a little shoulder shrug personally but the new battle mechanics are cool. Volo is also very cool. The best thing about this game though is the significance of the time and place. as a kid playing the original Diamond and pearl games there was always a mystery surrounding so many of these old ruins and structures such as snow-point temple and spear pillar. Its nice to get a chance to explore a lot of these places with more freedom and more detail. A nice change of pace from you MUST fight all 8 gym leaders and then go become the champion

This Nintendo Switch game will be a birthday gift for a grandson who asked for it. I assume that he will be pleased with this gift

I love the rebalances and new moves, it has unique moves for specific pokémon and that really makes them feel unique. I cant wait until they expand the roster of pokémon in either DLCs or another installment. This game is the future of Pokémon. Breeding is gone, but it was a necessary change imo.

I wish Pokémon would stop assuming so many players are only after the end game or multiplayer battles. If we want to evolve without trading let us. The MP shop is not nearly enough as it costs too much time. People playing MP use save editors anyway. Some of us want the full experience without having to spend an arm and a leg for trading. This game may have only one version but it does not address that issue effectively. Also stop locking certain items beyond the main story for the same reasons. No wonder cheats and save editors are a thing. Not everyone has the time to put up with this

I will start by saying I have been playing Pokemon since I was a kid. Pokemon Blue was my favorite Christmas gift as a 5th grader some time ago. Ever since then I have loved the games. None of them have made me feel the way I did, since Blue... However Legends just feels new. It feels like the 11 year old me dreamed about as a kid. Running around seeing Pokemon in the wild and just interacting. Love it!

The battles before the credits roll are mostly possible... the ones where you cant use your pokemon are super annoying, but it lets you start over from where you left off, so you can get through it with a few tries. Unfortunately, there are some after the credits that dont let you start over and it is you against the pokemon without being able to use your own again, where you just die. I found that part annoying, and outside of what a pokemon game should be ... you train your pokemon so that they can battle for you, and throwing in impossible boss battles where you have to fight as a puny human seems inane. I hate games that teach you how to do things one way and then switch the rules on you later. Overall the game is fun. The sneaking up on pokemon and throwing balls at them is awesome, but there are a few glitches, and I just stopped playing when I got to the point where I cant get past that part of the storyline because the battle is too hard. I also wish it connected to Pokemon Home so I could add to my living pokedex. Not sure why we pay for that if the games arent going to actually USE it.
